Little things that cause disproportionate amounts of pleasure: 1) found some Garmin gadgets that let me have distance in miles and KM, and speed in MPH but ascent in metres all on the same screen; 2) Weather actually fairly pleasant on the way home.1 -

First Century ride of the season ticked off - an organised Audax event round the beautiful New Forest. For people not in the UK please note the New Forest isn't new and mostly isn't a forest!
Unfortunately it was far harder than it should have been, unexpectedly chilly but I just felt really off colour. Stomach upset early on wasn't exactly ideal.... But the countryside was absolutely beautiful - loads of bluebells and lots of foals for the wild horses too. Was aiming for 6hrs 30mins but did it in 6:44.
Last 10 miles were a real painful grind.

My next big event is a 205km Audax called The London Ditchling Devil.
"The London Ditchling Devil, a 200km Audax from Wimbledon in South London visiting Ditchling Beacon and The Devils *kitten* along the South Coast before coming home to Richmond Park.
The Ditchling Devil is a traditional non-competitive day tour where the emphasis is simply on completing the route and enjoying the day. We start outside the Windmill tearooms on Wimbledon common and ride out to of London through Chipstead to the elevenses stop at Highbrook Village hall nr Ardingly (50km). From there its more quiet country roads towards the coast where we bounce of Brighton via Ditchling Beacon and the Devils *kitten* before heading for lunch at Upper Beeding Village Hall near Steyning (105km). Then it's an easy hop over to Chiddingfold (146km) for some afternoon tea and cake - can you spot a pattern here? - before the gradual climb towards the Surrey Hills and the final dash for home to the Roehampton Gate Café in Richmond Park (205km).

I haven't been posting updates in this thread, but this month to date I've ridden for 13 hours 18 min, 186.3 miles. I've been alternating road and mountain biking. The time is split about evenly between the two, mileage probably about 60/40 road/mountain (estimated because Strava doesn't seem to have a way to filter by bike).0

@35dollars puncture + tyre-weld/pump/gas canister/spare tyre failure all in one? Yikes! I had a flat on my way to work on Thursday, but just had a short walk the last bit of the way to the office, and the spare tire I keep there was alright. I agree with sijomial - the amount of bad luck you had on that ride should be enough for the rest of the year.
@Machka9 I hope your surgery went will. I wish you a speedy recovery

No, Strava doesn't allow you to filter by bike. A workaround I read on the Strava forums once:
Strava shows the total milage of a bike, and you can "add components" on the gear settings part of the website. You can use that to log the milage at the beginning of a month, e.g. add a chain with brand "1500km" and model "on 1st May 2017". Then you can look at the total distance at the end of the month and compare with your notes to see how much you rode on the bike in question.

21.5.2017 - 6.7km home to start + 55km Cyclotour Genève-Lausanne . My first official cycling event! Most people did the entire tour of the lake (~180km), but more than 60km in a day is already a distance PR for me, so I only signed up for the shortest option.
I surprised myself by finishing in less than 2.5h. According to Strava, my average speed this year is ~19km/h; so with stops at the two aid stations to eat and drink (and chat a bit) I expected the 55km would take me 3 hours. I guess having other people to follow helped, or maybe the fact that the course was rather flat (only 250m of elevation along the way). In any case, it was fun

Couple of hard indoor sessions on the WattBike concentrating on pushing my FTP. Need to get used to training at high HR so the upcoming long climbs don't come as a shock to me.
Glorious 63 mile ride in the Surrey Hills AONB today, almost perfect weather and got into a nice rhythm. Pretty good times on my two "test hills" considering my legs were a bit fatigued.

@_nikkiwolf_ My repair kit on the bike now includes two spare tubes, and a working pump! Hopefully I won't be needing them again soon - without wishing to tempt fate, this was my first puncture for about 18 months, after I had previously gone through a really tedious spate of them before that.0

I've slacked off this month a bit. I'm only at 176 miles, and there's only a week to go. I doubt I'll clear 300. Then again, I have a new bike, and desire to put some miles on it, so we'll see. Just have to wait until the end of the month, I guess.0

Strava let me down yesterday For two out of three rides, it gave me 0km distance / 10s time after finishing the ride. It's especially frustrating since yesterday evening was the first time I added a bit of mountain, not just the usual hills. I still have a "classic" bike computer, so at least I know distance and time; but it would have been nice to be able to compare segment times the next time I try...
I reinstalled the app now, hopefully that will prevent it from happening again!0 -
Haven't been active cycling most of this month. I've had various physically demanding tasked to do that have cut into both my time and energy level, and I really have not felt very motivated. Hopefully I can pick things up for the next few days, although next week I am away all week, and may not have access to a bike.0

@_nikkiwolf_ What do you mean when you say "classic bike computer"? The Garmin devices (all of them, I think) can upload to Garmin Connect, which can then sync to Strava for you automatically. You don't get segments while riding, but you can compare afterwards easily.0

With classic I mean a little magnet on a spoke and a wire from the sensor on the fork to the unit on the handlebar - this guy, to be exact: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0093GEASA/
So really very last century.... I don't think it'll talk to Garmin connect ^^0 -
@_nikkiwolf_ Ah, in that case, there's not much to do. I'd go for one of the Garmins if you can (or even a Wahoo or other competitor). Having longer battery life than the phone can manage is helpful for those longer rides. The added features are pretty nice too.0

@pedermj2002 I'm currently thinking about getting a TomTom Adventurer GPS watch; that I could use for cycling, (trail) running and hiking. Not as convenient to have the stats displayed on a watch rather than on a display on the handlebar; but for checking my speed and distance during the run my little Sigma bike computer is enough, and I could upload the rides and look at the details once I get home.
A bit more costly than a pure bike unit though... Actyally, my current running watch has been having issues for a few month, I keep hoping it will break completely so I have an excuse to buy a multisport watch
