29 May (2 June):
Successes/challenges of this week:
Successes:
- Hit my 1 year MFP anniversary on Tuesday.
- Got a workout in on four days this week and got back to the gym for my weights workout - Gym on Monday and Wednesday; Paddle on Tuesday and Thursday. Today is a rest day before two races this weekend...and also trying to refuel my body with a bump in calories today and throughout the weekend.
- Surprised I saw such a low number on the scale after a week of so much exercise as I can tell I'm still retaining a bit of water. Had expected it to be about a pound higher. Impressed the trending weight is the exact same as last week.
Challenges:
- Race last week was a bust - winds too high and chop too great - about half the field dropped out of the race, myself included.
- Went out this week and practiced in the chop and wind for about half my paddle workouts. Need to get better in those conditions as it will make me a better racer. I typically avoid them as I paddle solo for most of my practice runs, but it shows in my racing ability.
- Been completely exhausted this week from all the working out (ended up taking a 3 hour nap on Wednesday). Super low net calories this week due to the increase in exercise, and not been hungry after working out so hard...though I'm sure I'll make up for it with all the free race food this weekend as pre-race parties start tonight and will go through until Sunday afternoon.5 -

Success/struggles of the week: So, I decided early this week to go into maintain mode. According to my BMI, I’m still overweight, but I’m fitting into a size 6, so there really isn’t any reason to keep suffering with a 700 calorie a day deficit. My original goal a year ago was 150, but that’s way lower than I would even want to be at this point, especially considering the fact that I’m deadlifting 230lb now.
My main struggle is my crazy body dysmorphia. I swear I don’t look that much different to myself now then I did when I was 215lbs and a size 16. I know that’s stupid, and I can see the number on the scale and the fact that I had to go out and buy an entirely new wardrobe, but I still think of myself as “the fat girl”. I’m terrified of gaining the weight back and my maintenance macros. (76 grams of fat!?) I kind of made the decision to, like, fake it till I make it. Hopefully, if I do that for a couple of years I may have a healthy body image.4 -

Total Weight lost:140lbs

How I lost it: My story
How long in maintenance : I declared it at 140 in January 2016, but that was too high for a petite lady. Redeclared it 4/14/17.
Maintenance weight range: Would like to stay under 125 at morning weigh-in.
Ongoing struggle: I still need to learn to trust my body cues, be content with eating just enough, and stop asking food to be more than just fuel. Life after work is just filled with getting steps and eating food to fill my evening. Really need to make peace with having fewer cals to work with. Contentment and an attitude of gratitude (and maybe a hobby) are the order of the day. (Update: I am taking a class in sign language for work, but I think I might go further with it than just the basics that my job requires.)
January avg weight: 126.8lbs
February avg weight: 126.1lbs
March avg weight: 124.6lbs
April avg weight: 122.9lbs
Week of...
28th April: 123.1lbs
1st May: 123.9lbs
8th May: 123.6lbs
15th May: 123.1lbs
22nd May:
29th May:
Success of the week: Got lots of steps in and plenty of protein. Could have done a bit better on my workouts, but have done far worse.
Challenges of the week: Cutting back cals has continued to be a sad time. LOL. On the plus side, I think I have enough data from the past month to guess at just how overly generous my Charge HR burn is. Tweaking my height on my Fitbit profile now to get my MFP maintenance number to be correct instead of causing me to gain.

I am loving this post for accountability. Just to know I have to come on here every week is helping so much. Thank you.9

Body dysmorphia is a b*tch and plagues me a bit as well. It sounds like you've done an amazing job, congrats!3 -

Success/struggles of the week: Happy Sunday! Down a bit this week. Probably means my scale needs new batteries. All good in my world; still walking briskly 20,000+ steps per day. No gym clearance 'til end of June or 1st week in July. May the scales be with you (even though they lie)!5 -
@Trina2040 20k+ steps per day on a regular basis is impressive. I've only hit that once (since records began with the use of my Fitbit). Any tips?1

I also use a Fitbit to track and it's really motivated me to stay active. I started slowly and built up to the 20,000+. I tried to hit 25,000 but that was just too much for me everyday. I set my Fitbit for 11 active hours per day and get up and move. If I'm short of steps for the day I have been known to actually march in place while watching TV.
I've been doing it for so long that I'm just use to it now and it doesn't seem difficult. Since I've had the Fitbit (Blaze) I'm counting my total all day burn including walking about 8 miles per day. I break up the 8 miles into 2 or 3 walks per day. My maintenance calories seem to be around 1,850 to 2,000 or so. I stick to that number even though MFP gives me way more, sometimes up to 2,900. Also, fear of regaining keeps me motivated; I never want to regain that 50 lbs.
Hopefully I can get back into the gym in July for some low impact cardio, but sadly I won't be able to lift much anymore. I'll have to figure out a work-around for lifting (resistance bands?).5 -

Success/struggles of the week: My actual weight is below my range again this morning. But it has been in the 124 range all week and my trend weight is 124.7 which is still in range. I'm not really sure if I need to look more at the actual weight or at the trend. I'm thinking I will go more by what the trend says. Next month I may start logging both. I feel like things are going well. I think my main "problem" is that once I hit my goal I started setting fitness goals (which for me was running). I have increased my activity a lot, and I need more calories for maintenance than I expected. So far I have been eating an average of around 2100 - 2200 and I seem to be hovering at the low end of my range. I have lowered my range a few times, but I do feel like I am finally maintaining now. I have considered not logging my food any more, but I'm a little afraid that if I do that I won't eat enough.4 -

Struggle of the week: I logged the weekly moving average from Happy Scale on this post, but my weight was actually 165 this morning. It’s actually been mid 164 for a few days. My struggle is to not panic about this and jump right back to a crazy deficit. Not only am I eat more carbs, but I’m getting my period in a few days so it makes sense that I would be retaining water. And I’ve been craving salt like a mofo.
Success of the week: PRed my push press (110#) and my front squat(145#) . Finished the 1000 burpee challenge at my gym. I had rice for the first time since September. (It’s overrated.) Last week, I started running 400m at the end of every workout so I can get used to doing running intervals when I’m not fresh, and it’s still not fun, but I don't feel like I’m dead every time anymore.5 -

Success/struggles of the week:
Struggle: I have a lot of anxiety about increasing my carb intake to transition into maintenance. Looking at the (relatively) high number after months of successfully losing with low carbs has really made me nervous, even though I know logically that it is not a problem
Success: went to a baby shower and showed surprising restraint. Ate a reasonable portion of baked ziti and eggplant parm and didn't feel the need to take advantage of the free food like I used to in social settings. Took on the FOMO head on! Can't believe it
You've reached the top of your maintenance range! Congrats!!2 -

Success/struggles of the week:
I've been unable to stop myself from over eating the last couple of weeks. It felt like the more that I eat the more hungrier I was (not true obs). Monday through Friday this pattern continued. Friday night I felt a bit (I'm not sure exactly what) guilty/miserable/scared of regaining... anyway, I sort of had little moment and said to myself "Fidan get your act together" quite literally in my head. Over the weekend I made better choices. Saturday was a little more difficult and I had to use willpower. But Sunday was a comfortable day.
However, a bigger success for me was having clocked 10k+ steps several days the past week. I'm still unable to do vigorous exercises due to my injury but I'm getting there.
Ramazan (the month of fast) is at the door step. The eating hours for us (UK) will roughly be between 9:20pm- 3:30am. Only 6 hours of eating and that's at night. I'm a comfort/boredom eater so this could be a good chance for me to work on this weakness.
We're entering our last week for May people. Make it count! You're all doing so well!!!5 -

Struggle: seeing that number go up is obviously a shot to the heart. Though I was fully prepared for it, it's still difficult to track and see since I've been so successful with weight loss for so long.
Success: I'm right on track with my maintenance transition! Week one, I've increased my calories and carbs, and I'm up about 1.4 pounds. I understand that this is likely water weight and I'm hoping to level out in the next week or two.4 -

Success / struggles of the week: had a big family gathering, with way too much food that we cooked, had to have a little bit ( that's the success part!) of most things, and (oh, what a surprise! ) saw the numbers on the scale jump. So working on getting it to go down, to my new normal. Had a nice bike ride yesterday and went to play hockey today. Looks better already, and i feel better too. Overeating isn't fun. Someone said to me, that nothing tastes as good as thin feels, guess it's a fair statement. To me, at least. I wish there were a little less family celebrations, i have extensive in-law part of family, so it's always either someone's birthday, or some holiday, and it's always about food and in way overboard quantities. I enjoy getting together, just wish that it wasn't centered on food. Enough complaints, i guess. Actually, truth is, no one forces me to eat. It's just hard to say no to certain things when it's in front of me. I limit quantities, but sometimes go over anyway. I find it somewhat stressful too, i know ahead of time that i will have some difficulties and it's stressing me out having too much temptations that are food related.4 -

Not bad after a weekend away. I was hoping to be about 153 or less now because we are leaving on a "big trip" next week and wanted to leave with a little cushion. It seems like I've had a lot of fluctuation this month. I think the mirror is more friendly than the scales right now.

Success/struggles of the week: I have just come off a two week vacation. I had a plan in place to keep my weight off. I was going to bring my scale. I packed my protein bars for the two weeks. I planned to log and eat full maintenance calories. I forgot the scale when we left, but still tried to commit to regular logging even though I had no idea of my weight. It lasted about 3-4 days, and I was not very disciplined throughout the rest of the vacation. I came back quite a bit over my maintenance range but very quickly lost most of the water weight. I gained a little over 10 lbs and lost 6 in the first 5-6 days. I am still about 3-4 lbs over my bottom weight, but within my range of 165-170. I don't like that I am at the top of my range because I tend to go over the range on the weekends as I am less disciplined on then and also take a break from cardio on the weekends. Thursday is my weigh in day and I am down slightly from last week and snuck in under the top. I am going to continue to work slowly at getting to the bottom of my weight range.
Have a great week fellow maintainers!6 -

Particular successes this week - managing to hit my protein target every day (which I usually find difficult) and fitting in a second longer (10k) run again. The weather has warmed up nicely in the last few days, so I'm looking forward to making a regular habit of long sunny runs over the coming months.5 -

Success/struggles of the week: Doing some emotional eating but will do my best to get back to normal this next week. Going through some stuff but don't want to use food for comfort more than a few days. It's time to do the best I can despite what's going on around me. I can't control many things in life but I can control my reaction to it.4 -

Successes/challenges of this week:
Successes:
- Accomplished two races back to back on the weekend. First time I've ever done that. About 5.3 race miles total (was supposed to be 6.85 miles, but both races were shortened - Saturday due to brutal gulf conditions and Sunday due to so many of us competing on Sat the race director had some compassion).
- Had one of my highest calorie burns ever last week (almost double my normal goal for the week).
- Currently tied for 12th out of 30 for 50+yo Female, 12'6" SUP racers in Florida. Happy to be in the top 1/2, but goal for the year is to break into the top 10 - would need a third place finish in my next race in two weeks to do it.
Challenges:
- Only placed 4th in both races, and I should have done better on my times. Need to practice more in open water (currently, I predominately paddle flat waters). Was a little worn out for the race on Sunday, so my times suffered a bit. Probably going to sign up for a series of racing clinics to get better.
- Major DOMS earlier this week with some major water retention throughout the week...water is just starting to drop off (sadly not in time for my weigh in today). Was hoping to break below 120's today, but just not happening yet.
- Major slug this weekend for working out and keeping food in check. Also feel a bit like I'm fighting off a bug or allergies, which reduces my resolve to stay on track (I get a bit of an eff-it attitude when I'm not feeling great).
Hope everyone has a blessed Memorial Day Weekend if you are in the US. Remember all gave some, but some gave all. Remembering our military brothers and sisters who are no longer with us and gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.2 -
