I'm still a WIP, so no real success for me. However, my dog used to be overweight and I took pictures through her process of losing weight.
Chloe is a 9 year old Australian Cattledog Mix. She was diagnosed with a Luxating Patella and early signs of arthritis which really kicked my butt in gear. Since she couldn't exercise without going temporarily lame each time, I just measured each portion and added green beans when she tried breaking in to things for more food. Occasionally I took her swimming.
Anyone else go through or in process of doggie weight loss? The first and last pic in the image are of her laying down. The middle two are standing.

Wow that's awesome! We're going through weight loss for my dog too. We got him from the shelter as an underweight adult, but ended up going too far. He has 7-8 lbs to lose total (he's lost 1 already!)2

Our neighbor had a pit bull that lost about 20-25 lbs after direction by the vet to have him lose weight.
And this example with animals is prime evidence that the same works for humans. It's all about calorie control to desired weight. The only real difference is us humans can dig into the 'fridge, pull something out of the freezer, grab a piece of fruit, or hit a drive through just about any time we want.
We have a pit bull we just got a few months back, and she has gained weight since we got her. We just had a discussion earlier that she has gone from over thin to "someone is giving her too many snacks!". We will probably have to weigh her and get it under control to prevent her bubbling up. I'm sure she will eat anything we offer, at any time.0 -
Adopted cat here. She was1kg heavier when she arrived here than now. A real Garfield look alike. Ginger females are few and far between. She was originally fed dry cat food and crumbs she could find and her fur was like a cheep paintbrush all over. It was said she had digestive and eliminations problems so the first thing I did was change her to wet food and she has not looked back on her 3 x 85 gram sachets. I have never seen her take a drink from a water dish On hot days or after a walk she has the gravy diluted slightly. No digestive problems and as I say a kg less than she was. At 24 inches long nose to base of tail she is still a big cat at 5 kg.
At 8 yrs old, she has taken to motor homing and even walks on her lead and she likes to look out of the rucksack pet carrier we got for her. Her life is watching wild life from the cab or rucksack.
Get the food right and all is well.5 -

Not sure if this counts, but I have a corgi, because of their short legs they are prone to back problems, especially if they have any extra weight, (and they are just so cute how can you say no to them LOL) we went to the vet and saw that Kiki was up to 30 lbs, still in a normal range but the ideal is 24-29. Flash forward a few months, she is at 26 lbs and happy as a clam, Shes a very active dog, and now shes my fitness buddy lol long hikes, walks and runs are contributing to both of our weight losses, and not as many treats are probably also helping us!4

As a veterinarian, I love this post. I want to awesome it a MILLION TIMES. Joint issues, cardiovascular issues, type 2 diabetes- all so common in pets now, a lot of the time as a consequence of obesity. I have seen some heart breaking cases of humans pushing their own dietary issues onto their pets and the poor pets suffer the consequences (and I mean, extreme, even fatal consequences).
I am glad you are taking your pet's health (and your own!) so seriously. Amazing job- it can be challenging but you did it. And good luck to you on your own journey!

We adopted the world's most adorable coonhound mix (in my humble opinion) back in November. Unfortunately, he was 110 lbs when we got him. According to the vet and some research, he should be closer to 75. It's been tough, but he has lost a fair amount of weight since we got him. I'm not sure how much because we haven't been back to the vet yet. It just breaks my heart that his family before us couldn't keep it under control, so we're doing our best to get him healthy. Oddly, putting our dog on a calorie controlled diet is what made me give mfp another earnest try. I figured if limiting calories was working for the dog, it should work for me too. 20 lbs later, it definitely has!
I don't have a recent picture that really shows the difference, but here he his shortly after we adopted him.

My dog lost weight as I have lost weight! Mainly because I spend more time outside and take her on walks. Her ideal weight is about 70 lbs and at her highest she was in the mid-80s. Last check up she was 78 lbs!! The weight has been dropping off because she was doing nothing (like us) and now she is playing so much more--and loving it!!1

My rottie cross went from almost 100 lbs to a comfortable 85 lbs. She'd eat until she died so reduced portions and more exercise for her. My terrier mix has been trim all her life but she only eats when she is hungry...such a smartie!

This thread makes me so happy. Thank you for posting it, it made my day.
My dog doesn't need to lose weight, but right now is her active season. She usually loses a pound or two in the summer, which is a lot for her 14-16 pound self.

Wow, that's great!!
My pup put on a bit of weight while we were on holiday (stayed at my mum's place, she fed her the same but less walks - I was amazed at the difference), so I've been extra cautious with her food quantities plus making sure she gets plenty of exercise.
She's looking a lot more trim now, so I think we are nearly back to her normal weight. I will have to try and get her to co-operate with being weighed and see.1 -

I love this thread! I make herbal Pet Remedies and although I make a joint care product that works I always tell owners of overweight dogs they need to lose the weight. It's proven that a leaner dog lives longer. Good for those of you that are helping your pet by keeping their weight down!0
