Are there any seniors on the Keto Diet, and if so, how is it working for you?

    I'm keto but I'm not a senior yet. ;)

You may want to try some of the other popular groups like the Low Carber Daily forum http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group or the Keto forum http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1143-keto. There are more people eating low carb high fat in those forums.

    Best wishes. :)

I'm 78 year old male, well educated, and had no health problems, other than being pre-hypertensive. I had blood work done before starting, and it was normal. I was on no meds. I have limited legs mobility from stopping exercise 6 years ago, but can still get around grocery store fine. I never drank sodas, and knew for many years that low carb high protein was best, with veggies necessary, but sugar crept in through pastries and cookies. I also bought in to the saturated fat myth 20 years ago. Had gained 30 lbs over 30 years.

I started keto 90 days ago at 214 lbs, 5'9", after shrinking from 5'10" most of my life. I'm now 190 lbs 3 months later (losing 24 lbs). My BP lowered from 139/90 to 118/83. I was 112/80 most of my life. Lower back pain is gone.

Experienced keto "flu" first 2 weeks, and had to stop Atkins bars. Hit a stall at 2 months and substituted veggie burgers, veggie bacon and vegetables for meat 1 meal of 2 per day, added coconut oil, and learned eating in an 8 hour window and commenced losing. I learned macros from this site. The carbs I added through soy veggies didn't affect my weight loss.

Taking B complex, Magnesium, fish oil, D3, probiotics and fiber supplements, but have no way to evaluate their efficacy. I also take Amazing Grass drink once a day to help vegetable intake.

I'm still playing guitar with my sons at local clubs, mostly soul music and blues, i.e. Allmans, Credence, Joe Cocker and SRV covers, but sit down while playing.

I microwave everything I eat, i.e. Ball Park burgers, cooked bacon, hot dogs, veggie products, etc. I use lots of olive oil, avocados, canned salmon, and eat sugar free jello for a treat. My only carbs come from veggies and whole foods.

Found that I could do wings, burgers without bread, and find lots of protein when eating out. Take a jar of coconut oil with me to get fat for energy.

Since there is little online or on Youtube about seniors, this is my only post to tell other seniors that keto worked for me.

    Best to all.

I am 58 and new to the LCHF lifestyle. I'm hoping to drop some weight and reduce inflammation. Just starting out so struggling a bit to keep my carbs low and eating the right type of fats. Think I may have been eating too much dairy...cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, etc. and too many nuts. Trying to add more coconut oil and avocados. Enjoy reading the posts on how everyone is incorporating this lifestyle and the results they have achieved.

Here are a few tips to get enough veggies in keto, particularly for one like me who can't cook. Too much protein will turn into glucose, and we need low carb veggies, for a myriad of reasons, like avoiding proteinuria and fatty liver.

I buy microwavable frozen steamer veggies, they work. No cooking, no mess, no fuss. I also use frozen Dr. Praeger kale veggie burgers, with a slice of cheese, and top with Wholly Guacamole sauce. They are great for snacks or inbetweeners, or as part of a meal. And, they are all vegetable, with no soy either.

So, along with avocados, and Amazing Grass green drinks, the above allow for a full complement of veggies daily.
