Hey everyone, I just wanted to say that I all I do now is squat, benchpress, and deadlift and I've been the leanest I've ever been in my life with adding body weight

So no one should ever do cardio or exercise that they enjoy? Hmmm....should I stop hiking or riding a bike too?
I'm sorry, but I think all exercise has a benefit.34 -

People should do the exercise that they enjoy and can continue to do. Not everyone likes lifting weights.17 -
Riiiiiiiight.... :huh:0

Ummmm no. I love to weightlift as much as the next chick but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop doing the other workouts I love. I don't even do Zumba and I'm wondering why you're hating on it in particular. Dancing is an AMAZING workout. Have you ever seen the strength of a professional dancer? I love dancing, and I'll never give it up, it's my favorite kind of cardio.5

I'm not a fan of the either/or mentality myself. I do Zumba, running and Body Pump (a weight lifting class). It's a nice mix of cardio and strength training for me. Different strokes for different folks!2

When I came out with that sort of statement as a child, my mum would pat me on the head and say, "that's nice, dear", and just carry on with whatever it was I had demanded she stop doing.34

Do some cardio for your cardiovascular health...do some resistance training to sustain muscle and skeletal mass...they're both kind of important IMO to general fitness.6

Just to add my two cents, for some of us doing cardio is beneficial for not just the reasons noted above but it can really help with ones mental state. So maybe you could actually benefit from doing some and by the way I haven't done in a while2

I ran to the gym to do strength work, no Zumba required. You okay with that!0

Exactly this. And I'm definitely Team #liftweights.7 -

Different things work for different people- not everyone has the same goals or preferences. Personally I love Zumba and it's been working great for me since 1) I enjoy and look forward to it, so I'm more likely to continue it and not burn out, and 2) currently my exercise goal is to simply get at least 30 minutes of activity per day and Zumba satisfies that.
Recommending certain exercises and sharing positive experiences with those exercises is awesome. But it might be better to do that without putting down other types of exercise.6 -

Good for you. Do you want a cookie?
I can do everything you do and still enjoy my Zumba. Thank you very much.9 -
I always thought it was important to hit on flexibility, strength, and endurance in your workout routine. If your goal is overall health and fitness, then cardio definitely has a place in your routine. It's about balance.2

But Zumba is my cardio/twerk class. I'm not giving that up!4

Nah, I'm good but thanks for the "advice". I'll stick with what makes ME feel good and actually gets me to the gym every day.5

I'm constantly entertained by brilliantly helpful individuals with single-digit posts coming along to save us.
It would be nice if I could filter discussions by post count.16 -
CLICKBAIT. And not very good clickbait at that. Makes other weightlifters (like myself) look bad. Besides, Zumba looks fun; can just never get to the class at my local gym.3
-
Fine, but I'm only stopping because I'm bad at it. I've got the twerking down, but I just can't get the rest. Also, stop yelling at me.2

I am nothing if not splendidly happy for you.0

It's not all about what you like or about being lean. It's about working the muscles, the heart and your body. Zumba is cardio. No reason to give it up entirely.1

This thread is pure gold!
It's not far off from a thread I saw where some were telling obese people they should only do low impact cardio and no weights.
It's all BS. Do what you like. Share it if you wish. Don't tell others what to do. I am obese and can't stand cardio. I don't even like high rep weight training. It's go heavy or go home for me. Still I would never tell others to stop doing what they like.
Plus as a gym member I don't think it's bad seeing the twerking! Gives me an extra shot of energy.4 -
You're not the boss of me!!!
(I don't do zumba but I do like cardio so I'll keep that up thank you very much)3 -
Lifting is all well and good, and I look forward to starting it up again, but cardio is how I'm gonna outrun the zombies, so no.7

Nah just drop heavy objects on them or bash them with a bat!
If I get to point I can run again I am so picking up that app. Add a bit of fun to something I hate might make it not as horrid.2 -

I promise you that as the least coordinated human being on the planet, I will stop doing the Zumba. I didn't start doing the Zumba, but I will stop it this instant.0
