Gross question.

I just made a whole 3 cups worth of overnight oats, only to find out the yogurt I used was moldy and expired last month. I really dont want to waste food and that was my breakfast for a couple days. If I microwave it will it be safe to eat? I know, I've googled it but there's not really any clear answers. Your input?

blergh, I'm guilty often of eating things that might be a little past their best by, but mouldy and out of date dairy - no way! Microwaving isn't going to fix "off".5

No, throw it out.3

Ick. Don't eat it. When in doubt, throw it out.2

It's made from soy, not dairy if that helps?0

No. It doesn't. Why would you think it does?4 -
Heating it up in the microwave will make it even worse! Throw it out, and next time check the use by date1

Ew. No. Don't do it to yourself.2

No one likes to waste food. But it's never wise to chance making yourself sick. I'm sorry...I would toss it and start fresh.3

If it was just expired it would be one thing (something about our fidge keeps meat and dairy unspoiled well past the BB date) but if you can see, taste or smell spoiling, chuck it.4

Throw away, your precious body will thank you. No need to risk getting sick from.

Eating it would likely mean getting sick... Days off work... Loss of income... Other food going bad because you can't eat it... Don't risk it!6

I think you already know the answer since you titled this "gross question."2

Would you rather waste some food or end up with food poisoning? The choice seems pretty clear to me. Go buy some new yogurt and oats and start over!3
-
Take the L, throw it out.0

Enjoy all foods before expiration date.
Expired = Throw away for own and family / friends health.

Microwaving it will kill some of the microbes but won't do anything to get rid of the toxic (to you) materials they made so you'll almost definitely get sick2
-
Try it and let us know how it works out.
jk dont do it2 -
You didn't notice the mold when making the oats?? But no - I don't think you can cook out mold. I wouldn't risk it.2
-
chuck it0

bye bye0

Mold in your body? No, no, no0
-
No, that won't fix it. Throw it away. Molded food is no longer food.0

Idk if it's poison, but it's gross as hell. Don't do it.0

My MIL just gave herself massive food poisoning eating expired yogurt. Toss it!1
-
Did you eat it OP? Are you still alive??1

I was eating yogurt when I opened this thread.4

But....homemade penicillin!
(Yeah, throw it out if you haven't already.)0 -

This reminds me of a time I was looking forward to eating a pudding dessert cup.
Dessert cup had a tiny puncture hole in the lid and must have had so for a while.
Dessert had a lovely thick patch of mould growing under the lid.
Needless to say, dessert cup went in the trash after I got a whiff of mould.2 -

I wouldn't risk it, but then I don't make breakfast for three days at a time either.
Moldy is a bit worse than simply expired. Its the reason why some types of products have expiry dates of days or weeks from manufacture, while others are marked with 2 years or more from the date they were made.0
