I'm a believer and I find that turning to my higher power when feeling stressed or overwhelmed helps to reduce stress and anxiety, which in turn helps to deal binge eating or stress eating.1

Hello!
I am new to this app & to logging my calories. What an eye opener to how many calories I need to eat to lose 2 pounds a week, wowza, I am eating more than I ever have!
Jesus is my breath, my life. I am nothing without him. He is our rock & is on our side.
I have lost over 1,300 pounds since birth. My dedication this time is to glorify Him with my health & be used by Him.
I am stepping up and leading a Made to Crave study.
I am excited to meet other siblings in Christ.
Please add me to the group3 -
Jesus Freak here! Feel free to add me & when can motivate one another together.. <<Philippians 4:13>>0

I think I'd like to join this group. I'm new and was skimming the posts on the boards looking to see if there were any Christ followers and I ran across this group. I have lost and gained so much over the years. Once lost 125 pounds. Now at age 63 and a problematic type 2 diabetic, my doctor suggested bariatric surgery as the diabetes should subside within a few days after surgery. I am going through the pre-surgery testing and dieting requirements right now. Hoping I will be ready and approved for the surgery by early June.1

Buy the book "Made to Crave" by Lysa Terkuerst. It is usually done as a study group but can be read alone as well. Focuses on craving God instead of food.0

Yessss! I was seeking a group or people of faith to be friends and support each other. NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING is impossible when you have faith. We can certianly achieve anything. Please feel free to add me anyone who'd like some friendly support.1

I'm a little confused by the post. Looking for God instead of food for happiness. Did God, create the food for our pleasure? I've studied the emotional brain and the chemicals that are released when we eat. There's is absolutely nothing wrong for eating for pleasure, likewise, as the way of enjoying recreational activities for pleasure.
I'm not religious, but, I have read the entire Bible, and one of the greatest attributes of the Fruit of the Spirit is self control.
My recommendation is, enjoy the foods that was created for us, enjoy life, Enjoy God (or whomever god/God you choose) and learn the aspect of Self control.
Nevertheless, This would be an excellent group for seeking like minded friends, however, maybe be more specific on which God you are referring to.9 -

There is at least one group on this subject on here already.0 -

Looking to God and his wonderful promises, instead of food or some other substitution, is something I work on daily. Not something that comes naturally (at least to me).
Anyone, feel free to add me as a friend; it's important to support and to lift each other up.0 -

This is a genuine question
"Looking to god instead of food" .. why can't you just do it for yourself? Why do you need god to help you with this journey?
I'm intrigued.
I know there's a lot of different answers out there from a lot of different people, but here's how I see it:
Why do we need God to lead us? Because without Him, we wouldn't have a body in the first place! No one knows the human body better than God. He's the one who designed it! Our body is a temporary gift, and that's an awesome motivation to take care of it.
What I'm saying is, if we can't create ourselves, how can we expect to improve ourselves all on our own? We're dependent on God for life. He knows how everything works, including our food cravings and weight loss processes. No human completely understands how all that works!
Okay that explains it quite well!
Another question if you don't mind.. (again this is not to "challenge" or cause offence..
I personally don't believe in god. But I can still achieve my goals, do you ever think of it like that?
I am totally respectful of peoples faiths I was just wondering that's all!
They probably don't think about you or your goals. As they probably never heard of you before and they don't know you. You just showed up on this thread obviously champing at the bit to tell them you don't believe in God.
Wind your neck in.
I've stated my reasons. I've been extremely polite.
I could of jumped on the thread and said "you're all effing insane believing in something like that"
But I didn't, because I'm respectful of different beliefs.
If you've got some sort of problem.. well.. just get over it because It's just boring. You're just trying to have a go over nothing. It's ridiculous.
I personally think you've been very polite and curious which is totally cool. God loves us. He loves us no matter what. He died for our sins, even the non believers.
To answer your question, yes you can lose weight without turning to God. In my personal opinion, I need God in everything I do. Each decision I make should be made with a Christian heart. Do I always present a Christian attitude? No not at all. I'm human. As a human, I still fail.
Speaking for myself, when I feel weak, instead of going to food for comfort, I pray. I read scripture. Faith is hard for some but when you accept Christ as your savior, it comes more easy. God knows all of our weaknesses. He knew us before anyone else did. I find comfort in calling on Him when I am weak. When I replaced my bad habits with Godly ones, I've had more peace and success.
Hugs to you and ask any questions you see fit.

Thank you for that, I'm glad you don't think I'm disrespectful.
But Can you explain more? For example say you're posed with a dilemma and you turn to God, how do you do that? Do you ask Him for help? And how does He give you that help?
How does He pick you up when you're weak?
I mean at what point do you think "yes that's what I should do?"
Or does it not quite work like that?
Do the scriptures help more than praying?
Is praying almost like the term "a problem shared is a problem halved?"

For me, when I'm confronted with a dilemma, I pray for courage, strength and wisdom. I start this prayer by repenting and clearing my conscience.
If the dilemma (problem) is too much (been there recently), I turn it over to God and let go of my grip on the problem. It's always worked for me. Always found a way through it.
I also find that I can think best about what to do when I'm in a church service. While the church band is going through their musical sets, I put the music in the background and concentrate on what I need to do. What lesson is this dilemma or problem meant to teach me; how is it meant to shape me, what is God trying to do in my life or perhaps the life of someone close to me. When the preacher is talking, I try and understand what the scripture is saying to me. I believe the message from the preacher is meant for me in some way.
Prayer and scripture is powerful. It's not about being perfect in your prayer or understanding of the scripture. For me, its about my relationship with God and listening, really listening, for what it is I should do or not do.

Children believe in Santa Claus because their parents , who they trust to tell them the truth, tell them he exists. That's the only reason children believe in Santa Claus.4 -
