What nobody tells you about losing weight

Some people will be jealous and will refuse to compliment your good work. They will ignore it and be bitter.
This one seems a bit silly and presumptuous. I personally try refraining from commenting on people's weight, even if I've seen that they are making great progress. It's not because I don't care, it's because some are sensitive and take a comment/compliment in a backwards manner...meaning they interpret it as you calling them fat.
That's what forums like this are for. If you are looking for a boost in motivation to keep going, or just wanting to talk about your progress, come here.22 -

So you say to come to the forums to talk about progress or for a boost, and then tear apart what I say and criticize it?? That's a little hypocritical, don't you think?14 -

I don't think he was hypocritical in any way at all.21 -

I think when someone gives their experience (after all, isn't that what this thread is?) and the person replies that what I have experienced is "silly and presumptuous", then tells the person to go to these forums for a boost, that is literally the definition of being hypocritical. If you want to split hairs, then I'll settle for he's just a total jerk then.11 -

Congrats on your weight loss. But, isn't the hair loss a concern for inadequate nutrition/supplements? I don't think hair loss is common when losing weight.....12 -
easiest is if you have a partner going in it together with you, without support its really hard to start and keeping it.
Or a partner can drag you down with him/her. Everyone is not going to be 100% dedicated 100% all the time. When I'm feeling tired of it all, I like to keep that within myself so as not to bring anyone along with me on a binge or even a cheat meal. Not everyone is like that. When your partner is the one saying "we've earned a treat" then you've got to do it for yourself.12 -
That when you reach your final goal, you won't feel like part of the MFP community any more. That you won't feel like you have anything to contribute anymore. That after all the time spent losing the weight, you don't really have a plan for what to do now other than just keep doing what you've been doing for the last 580 days or so. That you will be afraid to go into maintenance (higher calorie count) because what if you gain some of the weight back? That now, you don't feel like you have a purpose anymore without that weight loss goal to keep you motivated every day. That you would be terrified you will end up where you always have in the past...putting all those pounds back on...being a disappointment to yourself and others whose opinion is important to you...even tho' you have changed every thing about the way you eat and will keep that change in place. That it would be difficult to move on, celebrate and enjoy your accomplishment. That you know you should be extremely happy and proud of yourself but you just feel lost.66

When you are asked how much more do you plan on loosing? You then answer with a clothes size (ashamed of how heavy you was) and the person then answers oh I don't think with your height you will look right/gaunt ECT.
REALLY F**** OFF is rude to say too.16 -
That i would constantly be dropping my phone through my thigh gap. My poor phones going to smash into a million pieces soon -.- Used to just sit it in my lap now theres a good 2-3 inch gap where my thighs used to press tighly together lol26

Uh if that is happening a lot that is not a sign of health. I would be concerned.
That happens to me sometimes because I've always had - not matter what - low blood pressure.2 -
How some will try to sabotage you because it makes them feel uncomfortable about their own weight insecurities.
The point is keep going! You're only in charge of yourself, not others.17 -

THIS! Defintely experiencing some of this.
And also, no one told me that losing another 5 lbs after reaching "goal" can actually be a concern. Am I not doing "maintenance" right? I know how to do "weight loss," but "staying the same" appears to elude me. What am I doing wrong? (Really, nothing. Just my head screwing with my mind...)

Feeling more confident knowing I am taking care of myself !!!11

That you have to change how you think when you reach your goal weight. The compliments of how great you look stop coming, the thrill of losing another pound is gone, and you have to learn how to maintain what you've achieved. You have to decide to be proud of and happy with who you've become.
This is the reason I lost 100 pounds and gained 100 pounds back. I got right back to my original start weight and said "oh crap- what now?" And I had to start again. I never learned how to maintain, and that's why it took 3 years to go back into losing weight. It feels like "why even try?"

That's what I thought too. I had blood work ups done, went to a naturopath and a dermatologist just to check and literally nothing came back irregular. My doctor said is was body/hormone changes. I had also recently had a baby, so they chalked it up to be a combo of the two.6 -
No one told me that the people you know will change. People who are your friends will make underhanded comments, people who thought they were better than you now try to talk to you. They don't tell you how you yourself will change.15

That you will hate it when your husband says, "Let's take the Miata out for the weekend," because those stupid tiny cars have no padding in their seats and neither do you.15

I have heard several people say they lost hair after having a baby.4 -
Zits hurt more. With no padding for the zit to go into they hurt until they can get to the surface and pop6

It feels really good to be small, if only people could understand how great it actually feels...i'm 6'2" and am 208lbs and feel like crap compared to when i was 170.
This. I was small most of my life so I never knew what being overweight felt like til I hit my 40s. Now at 48 it's a struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. I want to know what it feels like to feel "lighter" and to be able to breathe normal when I walk up a flight of stairs again. 40 pounds of excess weight does make a difference in how you feel.

Maybe you are taking what Roosh513 wrong or just the way he said it. I understand where he is coming from. People might not say anything because they don't know how you will take the comment. One of my co-workers said that to me. It was very noticeable that I had lost weight, but he didn't say anything because he didn't want me to be offended and think he thought I was fat before...or that it matters what I look like to him. When he finally did say something, I joked with him that I was surprised he couldn't tell before, so he explained this to me. So, they might not be jealous or anything. There may be some people that are jealous too, but you can't really assume either way.

@Wysewoman53 @birgitkwood I felt exactly the same when I hit my goal. There's a really nice weekly thread running just for maintainers - lots of accountability and support - maybe join that? It's at least a way of feeling like you're still part of the MFP community and may even add a bit of motivation back in?

I noticed this last night. I couldn't sleep on my right side because I had one on that shoulder that was still under the surface. It was like it was pressing straight into the bone.1 -
Thanks @girlgroves . I will check this site out.0

You are right. There are definitely people who err on the side of caution with this topic. I have those people in my life as well, but there are also some very rude and bitter people as well. People at work who are in constant competition and want to make others look bad and put them down. Not saying the other doesn't happen, but in my life, I see the bitterness one A LOT. Just my experience.6 -

Everyone said that to lose weight you have to love your body first. Nobody told me that you don't have to love the shape of your body first. Making the distinction between the two was life-changing and was what spurred my weight loss.47

Nobody told me that it can be harder to find fitting dresses which flatter your waist if you are a short and skinny but relatively blessed in the bust area. It worked better when I was not annoyed that the dresses matching my bust don't flatter my waist.18

My hands are ice cold. I used to be hot all the time and was known for having heat literally radiating from my hands. No more.7
