Never give up on your goals. Dont let anyone tell you that you cant and dont tell yourself that either. Wake up each day look in the mirror and say I'm not giving up on me. You are beautiful because you love yourself and the strength that keeps you going. If you keep a postive mind set then you get postive results.

No problem. We all need support. Too many people on here get so negitive with anything new people try to help lose weight. Very closed minded and judgmental. Those people are the reason why so many give up. If someone reaches out for help or support and only get criticism and negativity instead it discourages them. I am open minded to trying anything that may help me. I and my husband been on the receiving end of such people on here. Good luck every one on your weight loss journeys.5

Those people are the reason I've had any success and regained my sanity in the process. I'm not sure why you chose to take what started as a supportive post and turn it into a slam against community members, but you are effectively adding to the "negative" atmosphere you are railing against with this post. Best of luck to you.8 -

As gently as possible - cheering ideas which have no basis in science or fact is not support. It's enabling behaviours which are at best useless, and at worst harmful or derailing. Calling out misinformation is not criticism or negativity. In the long run, its the most helpful thing people can do. And I'm someone who used to try, and try and give up because it was all too hard because I was buying into the bulldust.5 -

Just adds to the confusion, frustration, and ongoing failure hamster wheel.
I have so much respect for the members here who call the BS what it is. It pulled me out of the ongoing failure and shame cycle I was in.
OP, perhaps hang out read through the helpful posts, you might begin to see a few things differently. Blind support is rarely helpful. Questioning things with a critical eye can be an amazing thing.5 -
Thanks for the support1

I haven't seen too much of that negativity on her, but I am sensitive and that would really discourage me. Thankfully most people have been helpful here. Do what works for you, everyone is different and get different results. Hope it goes well for you.0 -

I was more referring to my husband's post that was attacked so bad the administrator removed it.0 -
My post was supposed to be for other fasters that had any results with it. If it helps us feel better and get we get results from trying it then who are we hurting?? No one was saying that it did anything other than control calories. My sister in law is a micro biologist and bichemist in boston mass. She was the one who told me that fasting had several benefits for those struggling to lose weight. Also people who are diabetic who fast it can help control thier high blood sugar. Also backed up by my dr. My mother in law is a diabetic. Who has to us fasting in order to help her eating and sugar intake. Nothing I said wad wrong to begin with. Just because im a regular joe doesnt mean that im not informed.0

To be fair, your husband was challenged to back up his claims and resorted to personal insults instead of actually engaging with the challenges. If you're going to make claims, including posting videos advising people to undergo certain regimes, you've got to be prepared to back them up. No one attacked your husband personally. The same cannot be said for him.2 -

The "detox" one? I saw some of it before it came down. Bad information from the start. So I'm not surprised it was challenged.chrissymoore06 wrote: »My post was supposed to be for other fasters that had any results with it. IF has some benefits, but it's not magical. For some diabetics, fasting can actually raise blood sugar, so it really is an individual thing. I wasn't trying to suggest that you don't know anything. Many of the posters here have done considerable reading and evaluation of the available data, not just talked to someone and assumed the information was accurate, but looked at the actual existing studies.
There is a lot of misinformation out there. There is a lot of misinterpretation of studies and poor reporting in the media, which leads to all the confusion that people buy into. They start to believe that they must do x, y, and z to lose or manage their weight and it becomes very daunting. This is beyond frustrating to see so many people struggle with weight loss when it doesn't have to be so hard.
If you have found what works for you, then great! But telling people they should detox, it's unnecessary at best and potentially harmful at worst.
ETA: just saw the post above. Yup. If he was personally insulting others, that's going to get it shut down fast.5 -
He meant for it to be informative on how nician can be beneficial. He has had such good results from this. He feels better and has more energy and just wanted to share. Hes also a new member and didnt realize that posting the video would be bad.instead of a friendly warning he got land blasted. I think if you try anything and it works for you theres no harm in doing it. Each to thier own.1

According to this link:
https://examine.com/supplements/vitamin-b3/
Niacin can have a positive effect on cholesterol and triglycerides, but can increase insulin resistance. It has also been associated with multi organ failure in "undisclosed" high amounts.
So, there is potential harm, depending on the individual. What your husband choses to do, I don't really care. What he suggests for others to do, who may or may not look these things up and has the potential for harm, I'm glad people are around to question it.4 -

I agree with this, in principle. The 'no harm in it part,' sadly, just isn't necessarily true, but that's a discussion for another time.
Where the line was crossed, imho, is when your husband went beyond what worked for him and made a thread about detoxing and taking Niacin (complete with a link to a video he made). When asked to support his beliefs, instead of responding with scientific evidence, he used a vague call to authority of his world-travelling Phd sister and then started insulting other posters to deflect attention away from the matter at hand.
I'm sorry you are obviously upset over the result. That was most definitely not the intent of the many knowledgeable members who genuinely tried to engage with your husband.
Something you need to keep in mind, though, is that for every person who posted, there are literally hundreds of new members who come to the forums to simply read and learn. So if the OP of a thread doesn't respond to the either the questions asked or the knowledge given, the hope and the intent is that the newer members will take the countering posts to heart and will - at the very least - do their *own* research before trying something just because someone started a thread about it. Because heavens knows, there's enough of that constantly going down on social media.
Speaking in general terms, weight management, nutrition and fitness is a very confusing subject, especially for someone new to it. There is just so much misinformation out that's specifically geared to keep the uninformed dependant on whatever it is they are selling, be it for profit or 'fame.' People who are fortunate enough to find themselves here in these forums hoping to sort out the truth from the 'noise' deserve to be given answers that will help them cut through the hype and get them to a place where sustained healthy weight management, nutrition and fitness is actually achievable.
