@Elise4270 That sounds like a great pairing, worthy of any Beer and Cheese god.
So I flew back to Dallas yesterday after being down in San Antonio all week, and managed to get my first (and probably only) run of the week in. Still, different day, different job, different locker room to get cleaned up in. I was originally planning on running my usual Friday morning long run, but we had family visiting yesterday and so I didn't get to bed until much later, and I don't function too well on three hours of sleep plus a run.

I have been lurking on this thread since the start of the month and I think I'm finally (temporarily) caught up. I am a brand new runner who finished C25K a few weeks back and am in the midst of B210K. And I'm running in my first race this Sunday! So I'm pretty stoked about that. My goal this month is just to get in all my runs and keep building my base as I'm registered for a 10K at the end of September as well, although my goal as a new runner for both races is simply to finish.
Glad you have joined us, @sarahthes and bravo on completing C25K!
That's awesome you're doing your first race!! What distance?
Good luck, and keep posting!1 -
@garygse ! LOL! I think I like the Negro better, . My fave is a micro brewed heffeweissen. But, beer seems to dehydrate me terribly, and makes me fat
I was wondering how you managed those early morning runs, breakfast and a shower. I met a fellow runner that carries pepper spray, think I'd just have to have it for alone early runs. (The park is closed and I'd have to sneak in or learn to run roads). I have access to a 24 hour gym, just gotta find food.... I'm slowly talking myself in getting out earlier.1 -
@Elise4270 Yeah the only time I can run and fit in work and family time is by going to bed at the same time as my six-year old, lol. Works well enough until I get up so early that I start to feel drowsy at work in the afternoon; fortunately my new employer has provided nap rooms (I kid you not!) so one day I may just take advantage of that if it's a slow day.
But yeah, definitely safety first with pepper spray if you're going to be running when few people are around.2 -

Wow! Nap time! Movin' on up! *Insert Jefferson's theme* No shame in getting to bed early. Sleep is precious.2 -

05/06/18 - Pittsburgh Marathon - aiming for sub four hours.
Came home, eat some hotdogs real fast with ketchup AND mustard then headed out for a quick run. Was running low on time so pushed a bit harder. My computer is in the shop so not sure how to import the run into Strava so do not have zone and stuff yet but held a 9:40 pace for 9 miles and felt let I could not only go faster, but much longer distance so added 1 mile “fast finish” for a total of 10 miles. This far better than I was at the beginning of the season, maybe even a month or two ago.
I am more fit, sure, but I can not help but think the Tailwinds stuff is really helping. Tonight I lost about 1 pound per mile of water weight. I think the Tailwinds replacing so much more electrolytes than my Propel Zero probably made a huge difference. I only had 20 oz of water on me and it had 1 scope of Tailwinds in it and cause I messed up 1 packet of Propel Zero also. Was odd tasting, but by the time I noticed it I was already miles from home and just dealt with it.
Seriously, I feel fine after running 10 miles. Far better than I should. I only came in due to time. Not because I could not keep running.
Now I need food through...3 -

@kgirlhart - Happy Anniversary! Have a great weekend!
@skippygirlsmom - sorry about the blisters - though I am really amazed that as much running as you do that this is a first for you. That is impressive!
@sarahthes- Welcome - there is lots of good advice on here and lots of support.
@MobyCarp - glad to hear the ankle is improving - though somewhat slowly. And as always - love getting the insight on training. Though until I retire, I doubt I will put much of it to good use, lol.
@garygse - Even with going to bed at the same time as your 6 year old, I still don't see how you manage all that mileage with a job and a family. You and a few others make me question my time management. Of course, you do run quite a bit faster than me so that helps too, hehe.

I thought that too. I know guys at work that go out for a lunch run. I have 1 hour for lunch. Definitely not enough time to run, shower, and eat... I'm not sure how they do it. I did notice one guy has a shower in his area, both have a office space so I'm guessing they eat lunch on company time.
Totally off topic- My cats come scratch on the side of my bed to wake me to let them out. Yes I have one cat that abuses this, thinks it's a game and runs under the bed so you gotta get up. I thought I was being smart ignoring her. But now I hafta lay on the floor, tap my fingers and say "Beanie Baby". She runs right out and I GET to feed her. "Oh look Mama's learned a game". Play all night long.until I started shoving her outside. Another cat wakes me up but doesn't run under the bed. Fine. I learned this game. Outside he goes. An hour later he's back. Outside he goes. 2 house later he's back... And again.. text DD "STOP LETTING THAT DAM CAT BACK IN" nope he back. The *kitten* that cats are, he pulled that "I'ma run in front of you now" aka the attempted murder move. Scratches the *kitten* out of my big toe at the cuticle- so I bleed profusely. Send pic to DD.
5AM on a Saturday I'm up. (Well you did wanna go run early) eh, I was only talking, no action was expected. Outside with all three of this kittens, sipping tea, June bugs, and the smell of a neighbor smoking some meats and a skunk. I sure hope I get a nap later.
ETA and now we know why MFP chose "kitten"
Would it be PC if I renamed this cat OJ? I mean cuz he's orange, right? Orange Jerk? not because...
...and can I steal the meats?
ETAa.... Suns coming up. Think I'll take my new hat, new shorts, new bra and MaUD and head to the park where crows sounds like monkeys. So see... I WILL go run early hope I don't poop myself cuz it's been that kinda morning.4 -
Race day! It's in the 70s and very muggy with the occasional shower. I can cope with that. The race starts at 10:00am, and it's fairly local so It'll only take me 20 minutes to get there. Which means that I'm not rushing round like a lunatic trying to remember if I've got everything I need.
@sarahthes - welcome and good luck tomorrow. There's nothing like that first race feeling.4 -

Tough run this am, but thank God He got me through it.

It's been a while since I ran 4 days in a row so I laid in bed thinking I'd take a rest day, Macy (my labradoodle) said Mom take me for a walk. So I went out to do that and thought, it's really nice out. After her walk I decided to run and my legs reminded me why I wasn't running 4 days in a row ha ha. I had already told Skip I was only doing 3 so I didn't feel too bad wimpy out after 2. My legs were feeling any happier to be out there so it's all good. But the weather did LIE by .5 mile I was sweating to death.
@wishiwasarunner thanks. The only other time I got a blister was after my first HM and it was tiny and went away by the next day.
@elise4270 of course! I run every morning with pepper spray I’m not afraid of the people it’s the doggies that I worry about.
@runtimer Nice Bon Jovi reference, this Jersey Girl was loving that. 8.3 miles of Tourist Dodge Em must have been “fun”.
@mobycarp What a pretty kitty cat. It’s nice to have company when you are injured, they just know.
@sarahthes welcome and good luck tomorrow, we will expecting a race report by the way one doesn’t “simply finish” we “FINISH!!!” woohoo!
@garygse how is the new job? Nap rooms!? OMG I need to work there! There is no shame in the same bedtime as a 6 year old, quite frankly I aspire to that ha ha
@bruinsGal_91 how was the race?
Super job @jimcrackindandy

Made 13.3 miles but all is not good. I will make doctors appointment to check out my thigh. I'm hoping its just a strain and not a tear. I couldn't say no to Kieran when he wanted to do our 1.3 miles together and I made it through. I was feeling fine yesterday and there wasn't an issue on my run until I had done 9 miles. I'm guessing I have to rest at least 5-10 days without running at all so this will heal properly, I was hoping I'd just have to run slow but I don't think thats going to work.

@cburke8909 oh no I hope it's a strain and not as serious as a tear.0

I was hoping after 2 days off running that I would feel fresher for the long run today, but it was a tough one. Between the humidity and what I'm now thinking are allergies flaring, I felt like this run lasted forever. So very tired now.

My daughter and I enjoyed the last Beach Race of the series yesterday evening. The series is run by a local running club and is very well organized.
The sand and hot sun really drained me the first time. I think I ran that first one in June in 32:08, which happened to be good enough for a 3rd AG.
I ran the second one in July. The course was even hotter and pretty torn up from storms and tourists. We all spent a lot of time and energy jockeying for flat ground. I’m pretty sure everyone’s times were slow, especially since I landed 1st AG with a 31:56.
Last night started great. Overcast skies. A great breeze off of the water. And then you hit the turn-around. My goodness, that wind at your back isn’t very cooling, is it?! Right around mile 2, I wanted nothing more than to dive into the Gulf! But I made it to the finish line where water and wet towels awaited. My 31:16 was good enough for 2nd AG.
These were some pretty challenging races for me. Even though my times aren’t very impressive, I’m thrilled that I improved with each race. Now it’s time to start adding miles in preparation for my first half in November.
Oh, and I finally finished and hung my race bling holder. No more tangled pile of medals on the vanity! Yay!
