I say good. Regular coffee, and just the coffee, not the cream or sugar, helps in the prevention of many cancers.0

Coffee has no calories and if it's a small amount as you used, it should be fine.0

I personally don't drink coffee (accept pumpkin spice latte's and thats a seasonal thing and only ever have a couple) not for diet reasons or anything, I just don't like it. Just be careful with all the additives like creams, sugar, the flavoring stuff that will add up.0

Coffee(black) is good for you. It helps fight off diabetes, liver diseases, and dementia. But only in moderation, of course.0

is one tablespoon a day okay?
i had this yum smoothie tonight:
1/2 cup skim milk
1 tbsp coffee
1/2 tbsp honey
1 tub vanilla yogurt
ice cubes
im also calcium deficient and this helps give me some more. is having one of these a day good for my health?0 -
Nothing better than good cup of black coffee in the morning. I also enjoy iced coffee with splenda. As with anything, moderation is the key.... although I'm still learning that life skill. :blushing:0

My dad insists that coffee is the sole reason I'm loosing weight so slowly... because I'm not drinking enough :P But seriouly though, coffee is good for you. It has health benefits and the calorie count is almot none existant. Especially the ammount your drinking...worrying over one teaspoon is a little ridiculous. You've been told it's ok and still you're worrying?0

Coffee is the only vice I have left. I love it and I am NOT giving it up! I used to drink a whole pot (10 cups). I am down to three. I measure my Splenda Blend and liquid Coffeemate. Drinking a cup now - UUUUUMMMMM!

There's nothing wrong with a tablespoon of coffee a day0 -
I also went from a pot a day to 1-2 cups now. I use cream and no sugar. It's something I am not compromising on, especially since I got a Keurig for my birthday lol COFFEE0

Sounds good! Enjoy:flowerforyou:0

my thoughts on coffee are that its time to put the kettle on0

I can't imagine drinking coffee during the summer in Texas (especially during the biggest drought since the 1930's) unless i was very thin. But I do like a good frappe from time to time. I'm just not having them for the foreseeable future. Doing a 60 day juice fast. And after that a fairly big change in diet that looks completely wonderful to me after 9 days on juice only. I will be thinner some day. Not sure what my opinion will be then. I might be cold then and welcome the drought, coffee and even hot soup!0

I will come back to this tread after my fist cup of coffee .
LOL
I say 12-15 cups is bad. You will be ok0 -

Coffee is good for you, however, caffeine stalls the weight loss process. I hit a plateau once trying to loose weight when I read about it. I did cut back to only one cup in the morning, stopped drinking my "diet" beverages, and voila! Started loosing again.
The same thing with beverages with Splenda. Splenda doesn't have any calories, but is not good when trying to loose weight: http://www.naturalnews.com/024543_health_Splenda_weight.html.0 -
I'm an addict. I had some caffiene withdrawal headaches on Friday, and I actually left work early because I couldn't focus.
Some types of coffee upset my stomach, and I drink it even though I know it might feel gross later because I would rather deal with that than a headache.
Honestly, if you're not already addicted to caffiene, please only drink it in moderation. Once you become a 5 caffinated beverage a day junkie like me, it gets REALLY hard to wean off of it.0 -
Love the stuff! But I am caffeine sensitive so I have to be careful with it. Two cups is my limit and only in the morning. If I drink more than that, or go off of it for even a day or two, I end up with a migraine. I drink my two morning cups religiously.0

I drink coffee when I feel I need it. When I have stuff to do and lack the energy to do it (due to an early morning or having spent a very active day). I love the stuff, but I hear it contributes to cellulite so I go easy on it. Black with stevia at home, milk no sugar if I'm elsewhere.0

Today is my Day Two of no coffee. I decided to cut it out so I could use the calories for real food. I was drinking 24 oz of iced vanilla latte every day. That was a lot of calories. I love coffee, but right now, to be able to use the weight I want, I've got to quit for now.0

P.S..
Babyblake...what is the recipe for the coffee smoothie you make???? I would love to find a good one and start making stuff at home!!!0 -

Hmmm... I've actually heard the opposite, so I would recommend OP do some research on this topic if there is a concern. Whatever decision you make, you are guaranteed to find people to support it on MFP.
The registered dietician/nurse that does the nutrition talks at the health spa I've been going to for 10 years says that coffee has an acidic effect on the body... and an acidic state (versus an alkaline state) is the environment that diseases and cancers like to grow in. I've also heard that in high amounts, it may interfere with some vitamin absorption as well.
I personally have decided to have coffee only on very rare occassions, and I actually sleep better now. I drink 1 - 2 cups black tea in the morning, then green teas or herbal teas the rest of the day. Works for me. You'll need to find your own happy balance.0 -
Studies have shown that people who consume artificial sweeteners gain weight more than those who consume natural sugar. Real sugar is always best. Just be mindful of the portions. Here is an article about Stevia and how it does affect your body weight: http://www.livestrong.com/article/34149-effects-stevia-body/.
I learned how to drink my coffee unsweetened, but if you must take it sweet, use a little bit of real sugar instead.0 -

Hmm. Both of the beverages you cut out had caffeine, but if you used Splenda or something in your coffee they may also have both had artificial sweetener. I wonder which was the culprit.
For my part, I LOVE the taste of coffee. Good coffee with just a touch of half and half (10 cals), or mediocre coffee with a little half and half and sugar. I stopped using artificial sweetener after I did the master cleanse last year and haven't picked it up since. The strange thing is that I've only lost weight since I stopped using artificial sweeteners, although there are definitely other factors at play.0 -

Your dietician needs to bone up on her research In the past 6 years they have found a LOT of probable health benefits from coffee(again, in moderation). Here are some links:

Coffee is really tasty. I approach it the way I approach wine: there are many different breeds, types, and varieties. Get out there, sip it, taste it, appreciate it for what it is and experience the vast world of coffee. Powdered coffee, while yes it does the job, is like having boxed wine: you won't know how amazingly rich, dense, and flavorful it is until you experiment and try the "fancier" kind.
I am a Seattleite, so that might answer some of your questions LOL0
