@Elise4270 and @_nikkiwolf_ - People like that are so annoying. Clearly they are just trying to trivialize your accomplishments and yet, they are just showing how out of touch they are. At least the 8 minute mile claimicouldbe's might have some memory of that pace when they were younger and lighter - but to say you could walk 26 miles in 4 hours and so running one in that time is just a waste - well that is rude and out of touch. Anything under 4 hours is a BQ time for 50 year old women and while I am too lazy right now to calculate the per mile time on that - I suspect it is not much over a 9 minute mile. Walking at that pace for that distance?
You are both amazing runners and do not let those people get under your skin! Of course I know that must be hard because I DON'T EVEN KNOW THEM AND THEY ARE UNDER MY SKIN AND MAKING IT CRAWL, hehe.3 -
@HonuNui yeh for “embrace the suck” team!
@garygse great run
@juliet3455 sounds like the drop to a walk was a good idea.
@cameronheel good luck today!
@dcorrick congrats on goal
Didn't sleep worth a crap last night, tossing and turning like crazy. Skip came in around 1:00 she said I was yelling in pain. No clue. Sitting here deciding if I'm going to run. I think I'll do a few miles to make me happy. LOL3 -

Oh wow, what a beautiful morning. Just 48 degrees heading out for the long run, although 93% humidity. Still, it felt like fall and that made for a great running day. Hooked up with a few different groups of people during the run for lots of conversation, and there were quite a few hills. The overall pace was a bit slow for what I would usually try for, but it was a good run and I felt so much better than last week.

Nice and cool today, but I got going late and had the rising sun in my face all the way back. As compensation, once I hit 4.2 miles I rewarded myself with running as fast and far as I felt like and had a nice speedy final quarter of a mile. Brains are weird; I'd spent the entire fourth mile plodding along, wanting to be done, and then once I'd reached "done" and didn't "have to" run, I wanted to run more.
Not sure I'll reach my goal this month. Six miles between Monday and Thursday is physically entirely doable, but Wednesday and Thursday are high-parental-need nights, and it may not be easy to get away. We'll just have to see!4 -

Yesterday I did 4 miles with my husband, then we took the kids to Busch Gardens for the day. Lots of walking around! 7.5 hours of walking, standing in line and probably 12 minutes of actual ride time
This morning was a crappy run. It started out great, pace was under 9:30 for the first 6 miles then I decided to hit a small trail through some woods near the city municipal center. Got LOST! And scratched up. Ran into a lady with her dogs who led me back to the main path. Annoyed that the path was not marked and just disappeared. It messed with my head and I ended up run/walking the last 3 miles. Will no longer stray from my predetermined route!7 -

I toots around this morning until it was 80F out and the decided to do 3 miles for time since it's been a long time since I've pushed myself. I ended with a 11:26 pace (yeah me LOL), 11:41, 11:29, 11:09 and progressive at that.
@katharmonic awesome long run
@wandavaughn you are/were in Huntsville and didn’t tell me or did you and I missed it. What race did you run? I would have come out to meet you! Super run – congrats on the PR.
@zbyb233456 sorry for the bad turn in your run. My biggest fear is getting lost the trail. Yeah I live in Alabama and when I lose the trail I start to hear Deliverance being played.

@skippygirlsmom Thank you.
Race report on my first official 10 k: Great weather. Cool breeze and temp of 76 at race start.
My goal was to finish in under 1 hour which I have been able to do a couple of times on practice runs. I went out way, way too fast and let my adrenaline get the best of me. I ran my first mile in 7:39 which is about 20 secs better than my 1st mile pace in my last 5K in May. I knew I would pay for it during the last 1/2 of the race and I did.
I was able to maintain pace better than I thought I would though. My mile splits for the rest of the race were: 2nd mile - 7:59, 3rd mile - 8:17, 4th mile - 8:24, 5th mile - 8:57, and 6th mile - 9:03. Overall time was chip timed at 53:17 with a 5th place overall finish. It was a local charity race so the competition was not elite, but I did finish first in my age group, so that was exciting. I am quite pleased with this being my first 10K and now have a time to shoot for in the next one.
Thanks to everyone on this board for the motivation you all provide. Now it's time to eat back some of these calories I burned. Have a good weekend y'all.

August Goal: Not die while ramping up running mileage and technicality during 100K training
Nominal mileage goal: 250 miles HAHAHAHA not gonna happen
Today's notes: Got up early and headed to the ski resort. It was a wet, drizzly day out there. Today was a Long Run/ Hill workout day. I ended up running 12x1 mile hill repeats for a total of 24.1 miles. The ski slopes were great for running on, the grass made for decent footing. Once I got on the snowshoe trails however, it got not so fun. THICK, STICKY mud. The mud really slowed me down, but I kept at it. uphills were pretty taxing on the legs, but cardio was good, sometimes too good, as in HR was below z1, but my legs were TIRED, so I took it easy, walking the entirety of uphills 8-11. To make up for that, I gunned it uphill 12 and set a new Strava SR on the hill climb!
Quick stats:
Total distance: 24.1 miles
total Time: 5:15:04
Total Ascent: 4108
Average pace: 13:00
Average HR: 140
Have a Runderful day everyone!

Non-running update - Still having to stay on the couch or otherwise in a horizontal position most of the time. My left leg is starting to look a little more normal. When I don't try to use it, the color is nearly normal and you can see the outlines of major tendons on my foot. When I stand long enough for a shower or try to walk around the house for even 10 minutes- that left leg swells, turns colors and hurts like crazy. It's been a week. Trying to stay positive, but this is really frustrating.
On the other hand, my daughter just turned 14 and has 30 other 8th graders coming over for a party tonight. I am definitely going to use this current disability to my advantage on the parental supervision (my husband will just have to do the majority of that) and the clean up (surely the 16 year old son can help out a little since his mom can't climb those steps yet). #secondarygain7 -

Oh wow. What a learning experience today's run was -- 6th marathon training cycle and I still have new lessons to learn!
1) I did not eat nearly well enough or at the proper times yesterday. We had a big work picnic/bbq yesterday so I ate most of my food between 12:30 and 3 pm: 2 cheese burgers with baked beans, 2 chocolate chip cookies, 2 scoops of ice cream, 2 beers... and then I was so full in the evening that I just had water and another beer on the porch with my roommates before heading to bed at 10:15 pm. This was not proper fueling for a 20 mile run NOR was it the right timing. By mile 6 I was hungry despite a bit of breakfast before the run.
2) MIND THE CAFFEINE! I typically take gels that have 0-25 mg caffeine. I was trying a variety pack of Clif Shot gels and my first gel about an hour in was Chocolate Cherry which has...... 100 mg caffeine. The rest of my run was awful because my heart was racing! I was going a nice, slow pace and yet I was breathing heavy and my HR was 170-180. That made the run super hard because my heart was working so much harder than necessary.
I got the miles in, but I had been hoping for a much better feeling run than this. The weather was amazing -- cool, not very humid, breezy, sunny -- and I would have loved for this run to feel a bit more effortless. Instead I felt like I had to work hard pretty much the whole time. Marathons and marathon training are always humbling; lots of learning experiences to be had in the journey!
Upcoming Races:
Oct 8: Steamtown Marathon
Oct 22: Perfect 10 (10 Miler)
Nov 5: Princeton Half Marathon (pacer)

@MobyCarp - sorry to see you are injured and wish you a speedy recovery

I did the Dog Jog in downtown Huntsville. Started and finished at the roundhouse. The weather was great and the houses are so pretty. The puppies everywhere were fun to be around. Loved running with them - nobody could hear my panting over the dogs'!
Just say the word-we can meet up and run the greenway together.1 -
@kristinegift - Choco cherry is no joke. Friend and I, when brave enough for that one, would split it...0

P.S. Vacation week this week to help step brother before he and his wife have there first child appear before house remodel completes. So those of you doing the nutritional accountability thing- this is me waving the white flag now...
BUT!!!! PT suggested I could TRY a run. His rules, 1mile or less. I be completely honest with a report (I have his personal email since I won't see him this week) And brace stays on (this seems like the strange part.) but, I will take it.0 -

@wandaVaughn that would be fun. Things start to get crazy now with XC starting, but we definitely need to make a plan. Are Sundays okay for you?
I see @stoshew71 was at the greenway today. Of course he would lap us ha ha2 -
Feeling great got in 7.1 miles today. Should have been easy mostly zone 2 but I couldn't hold back. Averaged 8:34/mile translates to 28 minutes of tempo zone 3 and 8 minutes of threshold zone 4. This is not the run your suppose to do coming off an injury. I'll say my prayers and thank God I feel good so far. Kieran back out of his run this morning.it was about 11:30 last night when he fell asleep on the car ride home from the Sox game. An embarrassment of a game but Kieran loved it and hence forth so did I. Kieran wants to do his run tomorrow, should be a good way to find out if I went too hard today.

@kristinegift - I bought a box of 24 chocolate cherry Clif gels a while back, and I confess I never noticed the caffeine. I did notice that they were thick and very difficult to use in cold weather. Used the last of them in hot weather this summer, and I won't be buying them again. They taste good, they're just too thick to mess with in good running weather.
Mocha was not as bad, but also so thick that I won't be buying them again. Double Expresso, now . . . I can live with those. Just not for the next 6 weeks at least.2 -

I wish GU made packets that were half the size... Think I'll look for some sport beans, maybe figs if I can find some preservative free.
Any ideas for cheep mid run fuel that's not nuts, chocolate, or preserved fruit?

@hanlonsk Yeah... I'm keeping the other 100 mg caffeine flavors to work and keeping them in my desk for the days I need a SERIOUS pick-me-up lol@kristinegift - I bought a box of 24 chocolate cherry Clif gels a while back, and I confess I never noticed the caffeine. @MobyCarp I'm more of a fruity flavor gal. I love the Clif Razz flavor, and the Strawberry was good (just 25 mg caffeine). I'll probably stick with those. I find that caffeine or no, the chocolate/coffee type flavors just make me more thirsty. To each their own!1 -

Woah the pressure! All Kindle authors everywhere are depending on a book I started writing in HS and finally published 7 years ago? *nervous*

Your book is my test of whether the used Kindle my daughter gave me is suitable for entertainment while I can't run. Yeah, I'm a dinosaur; got an awful lot of mass market paperbacks, and very few electronic books.
Woah the pressure! All Kindle authors everywhere are depending on a book I started writing in HS and finally published 7 years ago? *nervous*
Good thing he didn't go for my self published kindle book first.....2 -
Congratulations on your race @cameronheel !
Like @MNLittleFinn I was having a love-hate relationship with the hills on trail today. I only hammered at a few of the nastier (loose sand) hills for about an hour before I couldn't be bothered anymore, I can't imagine how fast I would've flamed out in thick mud, way to work away at that man!
Was a nice long, slow run clocking in at 5:40 and change, got to hit all my favorite trail routes including this gem which is straight up ridge running on roots for 5ish kilometers
Once I got home I realized I chafed the hell out of my back because I'm a genius and wore a keyhole back tank with a 15lb pack for almost six hours. Oh the cleverness of me!
Overall a good way to knock out the first long run of the weekend! I hope everyone racing today kills it!
