Oh dang! @skippygirlsmom ! Least the ones I've seen are on ridding mowers!1
-
@skippygirlsmom Yes the weather was a huge gift. It was amazing how much different and enjoyable running can be. LOL
BTW, I was just about to post that running fine list. LOL I would have a huge fine. lol4 -
@skippygirlsmom I guess my friend's dad could have looked worse.3
-
@stoshew71 that's what happens when we have the same facebook friends ha ha Missy didn't post the orange part you need to read that too. You can pay your fine in pie!1

I even asked someone to take a picture of me at one point and am mortified by what I see. Abdominal crunches and planks are the way forward.....
number 8 I see a lot of on my morning runs. It's mostly other females. One day I am going to go right up to them and put my face in their's and yell 'MORNING!!' at them. I may not speak so well in the morning, but I make sure I acknowledge people.
I always acknowledge fellow runners. And get very miffed when they don't respond.
Oh, and I think no. 1 needs a higher fine. I had a young lad stop directly in front of me in a crowded 5k because he wanted to tie his shoelaces. It could have been very messy indeed, but I managed to leapfrog over him and got a congratulatory high-five from a spectator.
I was going to post that violators of #1 should have a higher fine. Thought maybe I was being too snarky. However, in the middle of a half marathon that I ran in the Spring, 2 runners stopped in front of me to take selfies. I thought, "are you kidding?"1 -
@skippygirlsmom please!!!
I was just about to go to bed and now I can't get that image out of my head.
I've now coupled that image with a description I had in an email threatening a 'crotchless mankini' and some naked guy I saw on the tv in some weird reality dating show.
There WILL be nightmares tonight.5 -
Random running thought of the afternoon. My morning run came pretty close to being a Yasso 800 workout. I averaged 3:35 on my 800 splits, with not much variation. I know, from how I was feeling, that I could have done another2. I also know that I can't run a 3:35:00 marathon.....good to know that the Yassos are no indicator for me.2
-
Happy to report no pain or soreness this afternoon after taking it up a notch on the elliptical this morning. Haven't decided on the workout for tomorrow, I feel like I could run but I should and will take one more cross training day.
@skippygirlsmom you couldn't be more wrong about cross country. I was fully engrossed two years ago as my niece won a few high school races and placed top ten in Western Mass. Last year was quite empty as she started college on scholarship for San Diego State.
Love the violations list. My wife and boys would be willing to pay my fines for #10 if it meant less of that action at home.2 -
@MobyCarp Bummers! I just saw a recent post of you with your foot in a boot. So sorry! Is it the same ankle that you injured at Rochester? I noted that there were kettlebells in the picture. When I broke my toe several years ago, I still went to the gym and worked on upper body strength. And, another note....my orthopedic physician told me that it takes 5 weeks for the toe to heal....and that is true no matter how fit you think you are. Sadly, I insisted on getting it re-x-rayed after 2 weeks, and it hadn't healed yet.
@ereck44 - Last year it was the right Achilles. This year, knowing what the feeling meant, I identified the left Achilles. I babied it along well enough to create a problem with the left posterior tibial tendon. It's a shame that learning about anatomy hurts so much.@skippygirlsmom and @Elise4270 I would like to add in that neither one of you two are old compared to the people around here and it is usually the old guys that are the offenders. @MobyCarp is the right age group but is much better shape, we would need like three of him.
@Azercord - I'll confess to #10, and probably #8 from being oblivious; but I never run without a shirt. I know a couple guys who do; one looks like a very fit runner, the other looks . . . not as bad as the guy in the mower picture.
#4 bothers me, so I bought a pouch to be a litter container on my hydration belt. Once in a while, when I empty it I don't find all the gel wrappers that should be in it. That bothers me, because it means I generated some litter that I didn't intend to and I have no idea where to go to pick it up.
And yeah, I was guilty of #9 as a newbie; now, I figure I'm not going to get all that dehydrated in 20 minutes.
Of course, there are worse things than any of those violations. Like, not having the opportunity to do any of them.5 -
Regarding running violations, for #10 I may as well just have my pay cheque sent directly to Runner's World. Fartleks mean a very different thing in my world.
More cooling glorious rain today...shoes are still drying out over 12 hours later. I'm giving them a helping hand by putting them on a rack on the lowest setting in the tumble dryer. More is forecast for tomorrow, which is supposed to be my long run...should be fun.

So non-running note... while I am off on vacation my books carry on and kind of ummm hit #4 over all on Amazon’s Best Seller’s List yesterday. Kind of fun, eh?
(Sorry, will return to running on Monday I hope! - till then I am reading - and keeping an eye on all you violators! )9 -
Scheduled B210K day today. I really didn't want to roll out of bed this morning and hit snooze an awful lot but I was out the door at 5:55 AM. About 6.5 km run, 7.4 km including warm-up & cool-down. 3x17 minute intervals. I was slower today but I think that was a good thing.
Weather was lovely (about 16C and slightly overcast) and I started my day off energized. Now I am dead on my feet though.10 -

Anxiety attack at work sent me home early. Took an Ativan and went out for a run when I got home. I needed a long one -- my stress level was high. So I went west on the Prairie Path and explored some areas I'd never run in before. Went through downtown Glen Ellyn, all the way to Wheaton College. 8.2 miles total out and back. Weather was glorious, almost cool. Wore my black tank top and the cool air felt so good on my shoulders. It was definitely a therapeutic run. Thank God for running sometimes.
August total - 72.9 miles8 -
I am very guilty of the belt on the 5k one.... water is my security blanket, big time... like what if I MIGHT need it. And I only recently acquired a pouch- (so, still means carrying fuel belt technically??? ) For my dumb phone that isn't the water belt.... so yeah... I'm hopeless on that one... I had finally stopped carrying the water belt on 5ks and then I got the running ban, so my running shape is gone... so when I start up again, I'm sure water will come on every run again.
It's been a long, confusing, headachey day at work.... I make no gauruntees the above rambling makes the slightest lick of sense. Sorry.1 -

And now early to bed. It's been a long day. A run at 5:30 am and 6:30 pm, 32k all-day steps, 20+ miles of movement... I am a sleep walker at this point

@sarahthes way to get out there and get it done! Alberta is rocking the A1 weather this week
@RespectTheKitty I'm sorry about the anxiety attack but I'm glad the miles made it better. Good weather for everyone it seems!
Wanted to get in at least 25 tonight but the baby is being a clinger lately (turning 2 maybe? idk) so I only managed to log 19 before I got summoned back to the house to console her afer she was chided for her misdeeds. She managed to sneak around long enough to ditch her clothes and her diaper, gather all the cardboard craft tubes and play with them in the toilet for quite a while unnoticed under daddy's watch. Needless to say my alarm is set for 3:30

Thanks! It was mentioned earlier in this thread... or was it last month? I have a bunch a books out. The one that hit the charts is : Enemy of an Enemy ( http://amzn.to/2vbU9jv ) (it is at number 15 as I write this, but probably will slowly continue to sink)4 -

Hydration belt / Bottle doesn't come out unless I am doing 15k or more. Even 15k on a cool day is no biggy.
At the same time I must acknowledge anyone who uses the belt to carry Medicine ( Asthma, diabetes etc or your Cell Phone for emergency ) get a pass fine = $0.00.
@JessicaMcB That is a great shirt, especially that it came from your PT, and yes you definitely beat me when it comes to white. But I do have a very modest Sandal Tan line, not sure how it's possible to get a sandal tan line and still have white legs
6 km tonight between rain showers. I was planning on hitting 2 loops on Misery Mtn for 10-15k, but with the multiple Rain showers ( absolute downpour ) we have had today it would have been a very unpleasant Mud-Fest. So hit the River Bank Trails with some new shoes and just couldn't get into the run. Have to blame the shoes as they are new to me and only have 4mm drop when I usually have 6-8mm drop. They just didn't feel right, might need some inserts or just a few more short runs slowly building distance to get a better feel for them.
Just haven't been getting out hitting the Trails like I wanted to this month. 55.5km and 6 days left in the month but only 4 running days due to Family commitments. Need a few 15/20km days to make goal.

60 minutes on stationary bike. I'm running tomorrow. Plan is for 7 on my own and 1.3 with Kieran. Its our third time with his Daddy-Kieran run and he's been told he can map a new course after doing this one three times. We are going to the Sox game tonight, it's our first big Daddy-Kieran outing.12

When I come across discarded gel packages in nature, I usually pick them up. But they are almost always really gross, sticky on the outside, getting sticky stuff on my hands, so disgusting! I usually spend the rest of the way imagining the horrible things I would like to do to the idiot who discarded them - so you can figure out a way to transport your gels when they are full, but can't figure out what to do when they are empty?
Loosing one by accident is obviously a different story, but when I find three in a row at 2km-intervals it doesn't look like a single mishap anymore...
I might have been guilty of #9 once. But when it's almost 30°C outside and you run to the race start and back home afterwards for a total of 14km that day, that counts as mitigating circumstances, right?
---
Completely different question: has anybody ever tried running with wrist weights?
I started to do a bit of indoor climbing recently and was reminded that my upper-body-strength is pretty non-existent . So I picked up a cheap pair of 0,5kg bracelets and though I could wear them once or twice per week during runs. I know going to a gym and lifting real weights would be more effective, but since I'm running anyway, I though every little helps...
Now I belatedly found out that a lot of websites advise against it because it supposedly messes up your running form. Of course I don't want to do that, but on the other hand, lots of people run with hand-held water bottles, and I've never seen any claims that that would mess up your form...?4 -
Good Morning All! Milestone day today on the streak... Gutted out 10Km this morning before breakfast to give me my 100th consecutive day of running. 50 days left to meet my Canada150Runstreak. Currently hitting an average of 4.4 Miles per day and just passed the 350 mile mark. Going to try pushing for 600 miles during the streak. Have a great day!5
-
Y'all ever have non-runners casually mentioned that they can run say an 8 minute mile? Or bike 20 miles daily if they wanted to? Just how far do you think a mile is with your sedentary life style, 60 pounds overweight?
I sure hope they can't... I'm fighting a loosing battle if others can start at my goal!
Is it Friday yet?
To be fair, some of them might actually be telling the truth. Running ability is a strange thing. That said, what they don't tell you is that they can run an 8 minute mile for exactly one mile and then have to remain in traction for months afterwards!7 -

I got in another long run in before the rains start -- 10 humid miles. I think that is it for me for the weekend. Hurricane Harvey is scheduled to make landfall tonight or early Saturday morning. The rains are suppose to start this afternoon. I live far enough inland that I am not concerned about the hurricane itself. However, flooding is typically problematic in this area. I guess I have to stay home this weekend, in my pajamas, and nap/read/watch stupid TV/drink wine. You know, for my own safety.
(August miles) 150.5/150 (August goal miles)
Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
