I just started week 7 of a 10K event plan and have a 10K race in 4 weeks and HM in 13 weeks. At some point I want to switch from the 10K plan to the HM 12 week plan. In comparing the two, I am thinking about jumping into week 2 of the HM plan next week since it appears to be close to the same in weekly mileage as the week 8 of the 10K. My last 10K was in mid-June then took 4 weeks off for a calf injury and I did a HM in April using the same HM plan, so I know what to expect. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Wasn't sure if I should switch now or wait until after the 10K and jump in to the HM plan at week 4 or so.

The plans I am using are from rundouble... http://www.rundouble.com/plans
@rusgolden so you are comparing the "10K Event Training" and "Half Marathon Event Training" plans from that site? Then the weeks 2/8 really look comparable, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to switch to the half plan right now. If you want to have some "mini-taper" for the 10k race, you could just insert the last week from the 10k plan at that point of your training, then continue with the half plan again afterwards.

Since I made goal I wanted to try to get back to resting on Wednesdays so I laid in bed and watched TV from 5:00 until 6:30.

@kristinegift I’ll have to check the movie out and thanks on the congrats on goal.
@cburke8909 Skip is an interesting girl. She’s determined to break under a 20 min 5K her senior year, since she decided she wants to try to walk on at the college she’s looking at. She had that same spunk at 7 so good luck ha ha Whew glad you said walking, I got nervous!
@respectthekitty sounds like a nice run – great work
@dcorrick love your description of the heat.
@katharmonic wow 20 degrees is a lot cooler. We are supposed to have a “cold front” come through and it’s going to 60 tomorrow morning woohoo!!
@mobycarp I’m sorry recovery is going slowly
I hope you all are sending some of that cooler weather for Alabama for a visit. Oh but not you @MNLittleFinn 47 is too cold for me. Ha ha
    Welcome @amtyrell

    8/1 = 4.5 miles
    8/2 = kettlebell strength training
    8/3 = 7.5 miles (six - 6 minute speed intervals)
    8/4 = 3.5 miles (track workout- 800m sprints & 200m recovery walk)
    8/5 = 4.5 miles
    8/6 = 15 miles
    8/7 = 3 miles on the dreadmill & strength training 45 minutes
    8/8 = 8 miles & vinyasa yoga class
    8/9 = 7.5 miles Tempo run
    8/10 = 5 miles run/walk
    8/11= kettlebell strength training
    8/12 = 5.5 miles
    8/13 = 13 miles (10 with the running group run/walk; 3 solo running miles)
    8/14 = 8 miles & 40 minutes strength training
    8/15 = vinyasa yoga class
    8/16 = 7.5 miles interval run
    8/17 = 4.5 miles
    8/18 = 4.5 miles & 30 minutes strength training
    8/19 = 3 miles (5k race)
8/20 = 16 miles (run/walk training thingy with the running group)
    8/21 = 5.5 easy miles
    8/22 = A.M. vinyasa yoga class / P.M. kettlebell strength training
    8/23 = 9 miles - tempo intervals

Nine miles of tempo intervals this morning. Only 76 degrees! A tropical storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico has cooled off the temps a little bit. However, this same stupid storm is bringing flooding, rain, and thunder/lightning the entire weekend. I might have to skip my long run - kind of depressing. My husband suggested I use the gym treadmill. I think I would rather pull out my 8 remaining funky runners toenails with pliers than bore myself to death on the dreadmill for hours.

(August miles) 135/150 (August goal miles)

    Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
    12/10 = BCS Marathon
1/6/18 = River Road Run Half Marathon

    I can't believe it. August 1 and I am 7 pages behind.

My goal for this month is 60 and I am going to get it this time.

August 21....6 mile run.....didn't feel like running....not sure what is wrong. It was hot and humid. I watched the solar eclipse coverage on c-span.(I didn't have those special glasses) I had hoped that it would be cooler afterward. I started feeling better after running the first 2 miles.....probably could have run farther but ran out of time...darkness ensued. Averaging about 14 minute miles. In zone 62 minutes. Average heart rate at 83%.

August 22....8 mile run....Another day of running in which my head and heart wasn't into it. It was a nice cool day with awesome breezes. I was really fatigued at mile 5 and decided to run one mile at a time to get the distance. 8 miles completed but it was tough. In zone 61 minutes. Average heart rate at 84%.

I will be making a decision on whether or not to enroll in a half marathon before the end of the year. I am not running that well and not really feeling it. I am not sure if it is the effect of the solar eclipse on my mood. I think that I might run the Indy Women's half in September.

My doctor's appointment went well yesterday, but I am going to have to add Zetia due to having higher than normal total cholesterol and also have a genetic propensity to myopathy. A little bummed but was expecting it.

I might make my monthly goal but will have to run today in order to do so. Working the next 3 nights.

    August 1....6 miles.
    August 2....8 miles.
    August 4...4 miles.
    August 14...6 miles
    August 15...5 miles
    August 21....6 miles
    August 22....8 miles
    total....43 miles
    goal--60 miles

I should have several PR's over the next few months since the shot helps so much. Happy. May grab another short hot run after work, depending on if storms roll in.

ETA I ate triple my calories yesterday. Running was easier. If there ever was an excuse to over eat... Maybe I can come up with a correlation: Calories / 62.5= extra kilometers to run (math+ runners brain = not real numbers).

@ereck44 Oooh I'm from Cedar Rapids originally (in NJ now) and Amana Colonies is always a fun outing! And the Hoover Museum is great. Enjoy the State Fair!! I'm ashamed as an Iowan to say that I've never actually gone. Sample some deep fried butter for me! ;)

I guess that I wasn't too clear....I was attending the State Fair in Indianapolis. I had to look up deep fried butter though....wow...it that an interesting dish. We have deep fried pickles and deep fried Snickers, etc. I didn't see any deep fried butter.

I love the State Fair esp the animals. I really enjoy the sheep and the day that we were there, we were told that the sheep had left the fair. There were goats in the sheep barn. My husband and I looked everywhere and there were no sheep. However there was a kiosk outside the building that sold lamb kebobs, lamb chops, etc. (sigh)

What part of New Jersey? My sister owns a home in Kendall Park. I thought that it was a really beautiful state.

    8/1 - 3 mile run
    8/2 - Rest Day
8/3 - Thunderstorms this morning, no running this morning. Thunderstorms are suppose to clear out this afternoon and if the roads are dry enough I will run this evening. If not, dreadmill at the gym. Life happened - work an hour over at job, then when I arrived home my son needed stuff for his football retreat this weekend, so off to the store we went.
    8/4 - 4 mile run
    8/21 -3 mile run
    8/22 - 4 mile run
    8/23 - Scheduled rest day

Hurricane Harvey is in the Gulf and maybe a rain maker for us - so hoping I can run outside the rest of the week and this weekend.

    21 Aug none
    22 Aug PT session
    23 Aug 3.63 km

    Goal total
    23.18 km/50km

Not sure if I'll get to 50k but have a route mapped out to try at the weekend 6.43 km (4 miles). I've been doing some street running as I'm getting bored with just running around the park (it's small). Also it's become a bit of a comfort zone and with the nights getting darker running in the park is going to be a no go. I may have to go to a gym with a running track but want to avoid it as long as possible. I've found that I actually like running outside.

@MobyCarp sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you have a speedy pleasant recovery. Happy to report my knee and thigh feel good after a morning stationary bike ride. 50 minutes and about 16 miles. I will try the elliptical tomorrow. Feeling confident about my 7 mile run for Saturday.
@skippygirlsmom keep us up to date on you and skip, I have a feeling I'm getting a glimpse of my future.

@MobyCarp - really sorry to hear about your injury. That doesn't seem fair (which of course matters not at all) when you are so careful to try to stay healthy. The good news is this is something that will go away and you will be back out there running - and will have much cooler weather to help out by then. I know that for someone like you, for whom running is such a passion, this will be hard. But you will hopefully come back stronger than ever.

bloody hell @MobyCarp I'm really sorry about your injury. I hope you do pop in from time to time to let us know how you're progressing (and to post pictures of your adorable kitty), but I totally understand if you decide to steer clear for a while.
