20+ day water fast?

I'm quite confused about what a water fast really is.
I've seen some videos now of people who have been on a water fast for over 20 days.
When I read up on it, all I can really find is that you consume nothing but water.
Bit crazy maybe, but don't you actually die after about three weeks without food?
Has anybody else tried to waterfast for over that amount of time?

Three months is more likely, google "hunger strike"
Depends how fat you are to start with, might last over a year if you start off big enough (this is the world record).
Obviously not recommended for weight loss in normal situations, more of a religious thing.5 -

Thanks, that was an interesting read!
I've always been told you die after X time without food, and always thought it was odd that your body would give out before "eating" all the available fat. This does show it's possible but at the same time... wow, it sounds terrible!3 -
you die in about 3-5 days without water and 3-5 months without food, unless you're fat enough to last longer like the Scotsman.2

Well, if you are actually "dying to be skinny", this would be one way to do it.5

Your user name coupled with this post is a bit disturbing. If you want to know what it's like to starve yourself to death, watch the movie The Sound of Insects. After viewing that film you will want to eat all the foods (after a brief period of nausea from how harrowing and upsetting that movie is).3

3-5 days without water is a very large overestimate. As someone who has gone 3 months without food and 2 days without water, I can honestly tell you that no one makes it past the third day without water.0 -
WHY? WHY? WHY? Why would anyone want to do this?3

I heard that after like 5 days (I can't remember the exact amount I think it was 5) that your body stops being hungry if you don't eat I believe.1 -
I did it, not a good idea. You struggle to walk for short distances in the end and get really tired all the time. It's very easy to gain it all back.1
