Def agree on smart trainer! They're also becoming more mainstream because of more brands introducing models across various price points.
Trainer for me tomorrow to shake out 49 flights climbed/descended.1 -
Late to the party this month. It's been pretty hectic. With the riding opportunities starting to shorten up and with work/ family life ramping up with school back in session, it's just not practical to set a goal that will push me this month.
So I will set a goal to just ride! As many times and as many miles as I can and just enjoy before Mother Nature makes me move indoors.
So far I have had 3 rides this month
9/3 8.2 road miles
9/9 8.2 road miles
9/11 11.5 trail miles
From what I can see, everyone is doing great so far this month! Keep turning those cranks!1 -

Did my usual climb again. Was a bit more energetic. Got a climb segment PR.
I put my HR plot on there. I like how it slowly edges up as I climb.
Wildlife - I got buzzed by a redtail hawk.
I was in this section of road that was bounded by deciduous foliage. Hawk went sweeping by me about chest high maybe 2 or three feet to my left. I think it passed me like that because of being unable to climb out of the foliage. It was stuck in the deciduous tunnel with me. I liked it once I was over being startled.

Rode 450 miles across Iowa in July participating in Ragbrai. Leaving Tuesday and riding from Goleta, CA to San Diego, 240 miles...4 days on our Touring Bikes...can't wait1
-
4 mile quick spin around the block on Tuesday to keep the legs loose after Monday nights trail ride.
7 miles on Wednesday
9 miles of singletrack today. What a gorgeous day in the woods. Had the trails all to my self.

First week not working and it's reflected in my cycling - cycled every day, used all four of my bikes for different roles from local errands to fun rides in the countryside.
Weather wasn't helpful being very windy and showery most days.
So windy one day I set a Strava PR on my hybrid at 22.5 mph on a segment I've done 177 times before mostly on faster road bikes.
Only one long ride this week, did a 51 mile ride today to test out my new saddle - a little retirement present to myself.

Usually Saturdays are better than that, but several reasons for the low exercise quantity including bad weather again. Seems to be a trend on weekends lately to have a really icky Saturday and a mediocre Sunday ... and then maybe a beautiful Thursday when we're stuck working. Also health ... I've been battling a wicked headache for about 10 days now after a weird episode Tuesday morning, 10 days ago, that scared me enough to go to the Dr and I'm to be sent to a cardiac clinic for testing. I'm also on a program taking my BP twice a day. Anyway, by last evening the headache, or something, had left me feeling quite queasy. And when we got home today, I entertained ideas of getting onto the trainer or going for a walk to the beach, but all I wanted to do was nap.
Hoping for a better day tomorrow!

Tried a couple of mid-week visits to my local biking meccas (Box Hill & Richmond Park) that I find hateful at the weekend....
Normally I've found them a nasty combination of Lycra Louts using public roads as a velodrome and daydreaming car drivers admiring the view and not watching the road.
During the week they were absolutely lovely, little traffic and I'll be going back for sure.
My back has been awful this week so mileage has been restricted. When it's a real struggle to get on or off the bike it's probably not sensible to go for a ride.

@sijomial I hope your back gets better soon! Being injured or sick sucks
@huskydoo I love the photo of the forest trail!

September was not a good cycling month for me. I knew I wouldn't be able to ride during the 5-day vacation at the beginning of the month. What I didn't plan for was falling on a trail run during that vacation and hurting my knee. Did you know you can get bruises *under* the kneecap?
At first I wasn't even able bend the leg; and when I finally could, it was still painful enough that I hardly managed to ride 15 minutes before I had to stop. I kept trying (since I was supposed to move it to increase circulation and speed up healing), but longer rides where out of question.
After taking the last couple of days off, today was the first day I rode my usual commute route to work and didn't feel any niggles from the knee, so hopefully I can increase my ride distance again now.
But since I'm only at 65.9km for the month, I won't be making my 200km goal.
Hopefully October will be better!0 -

Back is getting much better thanks. Bit of a shake up of my off bike training and a new mattress will hopefully help.
Hope your recovery continues well too. :flowerforyou:
Did you know you can fracture your patella and not know about it for years?
Crashed my motorbike twice in three weeks, same race track, same bend, but a slower (80mph!) speed the second time and didn't slam into the scenery quite so hard. Gave myself a stellate fracture and only discovered it during surgery and a cartilage tidy up many years later.0 -

June: 575.7 km (357.7 miles) = 41 hours 53 min
July: 714 km (443.7 miles) = 52 hours 23 min
August: 475.8 km (295.6 miles) = 38 hours 41 min
In August, I ended up within the range I wanted to end up ... between my 2015 August and my 2016 August. I would have liked to get closer to my 2016 August, but a cold/flu/sinus infection kind of took me out of the game.
I see September has been a relatively low-exercise month the last two years ... ideally I'd like to improve on that and do slightly more this year.

No really long rides this month but lots of small ones added up to 511 miles in September.

It was a good month. Did 1,262 miles with 83,209' of vertical. October will be tough to match that as I'm traveling for 5 days of the month.

Heh... 177 miles with 23,000 of vertical for my Sept. Kind of pale I know but I had fun and didn't gain weight.
I am going to try for 1,000 per day in Oct.1 -
@sijomial Ouch! I always figured when you break something, it wouls be really obvious.
Glad it was discovered in the end and doesn't stop you from riding as much as you doo
My knee is (almost) fine again. I managed a longer ride to finish the month - a nice relaxed bike tour with my sister, not too fast and with a few breaks along the way. That leaves me with 138.8km for the month.
@bocasdelbadbob not "pale" at all, but very nice!
@Rogus1 wow, great distance and impressive elevation!1 -

130' per mile is tough climbing.
