Giving Up Coffee?

How do you drink your coffee in the AM without blowing all your calories? This is super tough! I love it with cream & sugar. I'm looking for options where I can come in under 100 calories. This is my one splurge.

How is this a debate?
No.
Coffee and 3-4 ounces of 1% milk = 50 calories. I just tried a bunch of stuff, realized some things had to change if I wanted to lose weight, and settled on that.10 -
Thanks! Not sure it's a debate really, just looking for some good ideas so I don't sabotage my diet before I even hit lunch!0

I add protein powder, fat, and fiber and call it breakfast:
But 2 teaspoons each of sugar and half & half, which is pretty sweet and light, is only 46 calories. How much are you using? Are you using actual heavy cream? That's only 17 calories per teaspoon, so even two of those plus 2 t sugar would still get you under 100 calories.

Oh, okay. As long as you don't really think people will debate giving up coffee.
Wait, what am I thinking? People on this site will debate anything. For hundreds of pages. Every day, even the same things multiple times a day.

Right?!!?1 -
I believe a cup of a coffee like 2-4 calories, then half and half 20 calories a tablespoon. I think maybe adding less creamer would help prevent adding too many calories for you. I drink 2 cups of coffee a day, with a single tablespoon of half-half and stevia if I want it sweetened. All in 44 calories a day come from coffee drinks.
Coffeemate also makes "Natural Bliss" 30 calorie a tablespoon naturally flavored creamers, which are pretty good.3 -
I'm lucky, I like black coffee. But we brew it with cinnamon, and a dash of salt and a dash of cayenne pepper - and that cuts off the bitter tones, I think. Sometimes I add Vanilla to mix things up.
Have you tried just reducing the creamer a bit? To start?6 -

You posted it in the Debate forum.
Just keep incrementally keep reducing the amount of your add Ins until you change your taste buds.
I put 2 grams of Ovaltine and a quarter cup of 2% milk in my coffee for 40 cals. There are sugar free flavor syrups and coffee creamers. Just keep playing around with it until you find the right mix!5 -
I buy good quality coffee beans and grind them daily and drink my coffee black...occasionally a splash of 1/2 and 1/2 if it's a dark roast...but I prefer a medium roast black...4

I drink it black and prefer it that way. Never been an issue for me.
I honestly don't get the sweet coffee thing, IMO coffee is not supposed to be sweet (yes, this is a matter of taste, but it ruins coffee IMO, as does putting a bunch of stuff in it). Putting in some milk I get, although I don't do it, but that's not high cal and even has some protein.2 -

I do 2 - 12 oz cups of coffee and a Tbl of half and half in each. Total of 46 calories. Occasionally I will add a Tbl of Walden Farms Calorie Free Chocolate Syrup if I want more of a mocha. Adds no additional calories.2 -
i use half/half and sugar free syrup. i stay away from the flavored coffee creamers.2
-
Coffee and two no calorie stevia. No creamer, no butter, no oil. No calories...no problem!2

I used to have full fat milk and sugar in my coffee, but have up sugar gradually over 6 months, just reducing it gradually.
Some time later I forced myself to drink skimmed milk only for one month when I then changed to semi skimmed it tasted lovely to me! I still like skimmed in my cereal though.
There is always steevia though as suggested previously, I believe there is no bitter aftertaste.1 -
I use stevia and unsweetened cashew milk, or I toss it into a protein shake and just drink all my breakfast together. I'd rather use my calories for ice cream or cheetos.2

To me, there is no bitter aftertaste but the taste as I am eating or drinking something with stevia is very bitter.1 -
I have always drank my coffee black. Why would anyone drink it any other way?11

I guess some people drink it for the caffeine hit/energy rather than the taste.

Or they, y'know... like the taste of black coffee...3 -

yeah, that too3 -
I recently switched to black. That doesn't mean that I'll never have cream in my coffee again, but I have learned to enjoy it black. It's freeing. And there's NO way I'm "giving it up".2
-
I used to be a 1/2 creamer and 1/2 coffee, but when I became serious about calorie counting and losing weight I gave it up for straight black. The only time I add creamer is when I drink Starbucks which is rare since I'm not a fan of their coffee.1
-
I use Silk Soy Milk Lite Vanilla as my creamer. Slightly sweet, mixes well, tastes good (to me) and lower calories than milk or many other options.0

Thanks everyone! It's just going to take some time I guess to rehabilitate my taste buds! Is there a question forum that I should have used versus the debate forum?0
-
I tried mine with a spoonful of cocoa powder in it for a while... didn't really like it, but it was better than black. Now I usually have it with a sploosh of milk and a teaspoon of sugar (I don't like artificial sweeteners either) and figure the calories into my daily tally.0
-
How are you making your coffee? With a French press or machine?
I see this as a taste bud evolution. Most start out with loads of sugar/cream/flavoring and then learn to love the taste of the actual coffee.
I do either black or one shot of cream/milk - 40 kcals.0
