what did MFP give you as your goal calories?
log/weigh everything9 -
If 1500 is a deficit you'll lose weight. What you eat matters for nutrition and satisfaction but doesn't have a lot to do with weight loss - unless you eat too much of it.7
-
I don't know your height but you should put in your stats and eat what MFP gives you. I eat 1800 at 205 to maintain because of an injury. I am 5 ft 6 in.

Would I? Absolutely. I can lose weight eating 2000 calories a day.
With your statistics you can most likely go even higher than that. Tell MFP you are lightly active and you want to lose a pound a week. What goal does it give you?2 -
You will lose weight on 1500 calories, but you have to stick to it and do it for real. If you estimate, pick too-good-to-be-true entries, cheat, forget or leave out anything, you won't be eating 1500 calories.
You can eat anything you want, but log it. It is easier to stick to your calories if you
- plan your meals and plan meals you want to eat
- prelog
- keep away from temptations as much as possible (especially when you're tired, hungry, stressed)
- eat a varied and balanced diet
- don't cut out anything you like, but have low nutrient/high calorie treats only occasionally and in small amounts that a) fits your calorie goal and b) don't crowd out any more nutritious foods
- get enough sleep and rest
- exercise moderately7 -
The above posters are correct- all you need is a deficit.
Personally, I'm 34 years old, 5'4" and started at 211 lbs. I've lost almost 20 lbs eating around 1,500/day (sometimes more, sometimes less). I eat whatever I want, and always make room for sweets (and wine!) I've mostly replaced things like pasta and rice with veggies, and I eat salads or soup more often than sandwiches, but that's only because I stay fuller longer and get to eat more food while still losing weight!4 -
As long as your metabolism burns more than 1500 including your exercise/activities. You need a deficit of calories ingested vs calories burned. Simple formula. Remember not to starve yourself though. I did that and plateaued. My body went into starvation mode and clung onto every calorie I took in. Ate around 1100-1200 a day (instead of the 800-900 I was eating) and started losing again.13

starvation mode is not a thing - adaptive thermosis is but its something that comes on after extended periods...either way 1200 cal for a male is 300 below the minimum recommended (and that should be for old/sedentary folks)9 -

Hi there! You are correct that you need a calorie deficit to lose weight. You are incorrect that your body will go into 'starvation mode.' It doesn't exist the way you are describing. Your body cannot store calories as fat if there are no excess calories to store. Adaptive thermogenesis is real but takes a sustained and drastic calorie deficit to lower your metabolism so much as to effect loss.6 -
Not enough information, but I would guess with your age, weight, mfp would tell you to eat about 1700-1900 to lose 2 lbs/month. Of course other info might change this.

Depends on your height, bmr and activity level1
-
I'm 62, sedentary. This week, I aimed for 1500 calories a day, but averaged 1800. I have lost 9 pounds (from 295 to 286) in the past seven days. So for me it is definitely possible to lose weight as long as I stay under 2000 calories a day.2

Thanks guys i will do that1

I just put it and it give me 1800 and my height is 552 -

So you can eat 1800 and still lose weight.1 -
Depends on the source of those 1500 calories. If they are from starch and sugar-rich foods, no. Set macronutrient grams on a macro calculator. Stay at 25g or less of fibrous carbs, 25-30g protein, and the rest to satiety, of fat. Do not eat to the max macro on fat unless you are still hungry.31

Google scooby calculator, input your info, and read all the things. It is a very informative source.1

Scooby and MFP use different formulas (Scooby uses TDEE which factors workouts into calories; MFP uses NEAT and then you eat back exercise calories). Theoretically, they should be roughly equivalent - but TDEE works better for people with a standard/consistent workout routine, vs. a more flexible one2 -
at 5'1 i maintain or even slightly gain at 15002

Starting at 250 lbs, female, I lost pretty steadily at 1500 calories/day. That doesn't mean it's the correct number for you. I don't think it was the correct number for me at the time. But it was an easy number to work with as far as getting in treats and nutritious foods.0
-
Depends...your calorie requirements are derived from your stats and activity level. Most likely 1500 would be a deficit, but it just depends. My wife would lose about 1.5 Lbs per week on 1500 calories...your mileage may vary.0
