Is coke Zero healthy???

Should I be drinking it to lose weight? Its zero calories and sugar which is good, right?

It doesn't cause weight loss. It doesn't cause weight gain either, unless you are one if those people who supposedly has an increased desire for food from drinking it (I personally don't have that issue)
I wouldn't call it healthy or unhealthy. It doesn't add any nutrition, so it has no real benefit19 -

@mahdi22 it's just diet soda. there was another thread where a bunch of people said they were drinking diet soda and still lost weight. as far as healthy i can't really say. it has aspartame in it though and i read about a study that says too high of a concentration of aspartame in your body can cause brain damage, so i wouldn't drink too much of it if you do choose to drink it.12

Should you drink it? That's completely up to you. People say they drink it and still lose weight.
Is it healthy? That is a very controversial topic. There are threads on MFP that have the debate over health. Some say it's (artificial sweeteners) safe, others (myself included) think that it's not.
What you need to do is read all the evidence and decide for yourself if it's something you want to consume.12 -
Coke zero is not healthy. It isn't unhealthy. Its...well...a zero really. Its water with some sweetener, caffeine and carbonation and some acidity and that is about it. There is hardly anything to it. It isn't going to hurt or help your diet really. I mean if you substitute it for a higher calorie version of soda that you normally drink and that allows you to hit your calorie target while being satiated then it can help in that way.
If you want to lose weight you need to be in a caloric deficit and that is it. How you get there comfortably so you can still feel satisfied and continue your diet with minimal fuss is subjective and up to you really.
If you are asking because you are concerned that aspartame is dangerous or there are chemikillz in their that will harm you then no, there is nothing to worry about there.16 -
If you are not a big fan of water, and keeping calories down is a struggle then yes it certainly can help you stay within your calorie goals and still have the satisfaction of drinking pop (not everyone likes the taste of diet drinks though).
I drink it daily (although usually only one can)...its a nice reward for me after a hard workout.4 -

I've got a cup of Nescafe' decaf I've been looking at all afternoon. I don't even like Coke, but I'd have made a cup of Coke Zero disappear by now.0

I would just drink water. Too many studies show that it's just as bad as regular coke.

Do you drink it anyway, or do you want to start drinking it because you're on a diet?
If the latter, i wouldn't start. The reason being is because of all the "I'm addicted to soda" threads that pop up here and on other forums. Once you get hooked, it seems it's near impossible to quit. An addiction or dependence on a substance/food/drink so that I have to have it everyday is something i try to avoid.2 -

OP, artificial sweeteners are some of the most studied ingredients in the food supply. Enjoy a diet soda every once and awhile, it's fine!2 -

Google has to be the worst source for information on nutrition and especially artificial sweeteners out there.

I often never drink coke but coke Zero is sooooo good. I don't know what it is but it's good, and knowing that it has zero sugar and calories makes it better. I'm seriously addicted to this. I recommend everyone not trying it cuz if u do, you'll want more lol0 -

If you are thirsty and like the taste then enjoy your virtually calorie free Coke Zero.
If you normally drink non-diet Coke then it's an easy way to save some calories

How many of the approximately 195 countries around the world have banned it and how many have approved it as safe for human consumption?3 -
I'm drinking it, I HAD 140 to lose but have dropped 35 so still 105 to go
My view on healthy is: put it in context.
e.g it can't be as unhealthy as being morbidly obese like me
In fact, the obesity has made me seriously sick, if Coke Zero helps me on my journey to a healthy BMI then great
I'll worry about aspartame when I no longer have a BMI of 45+, am not diabetic, don't have Fatty Liver disease, high cholesterol, dangerously high blood pressure and am no longer classed as having Metabolic Syndrome
If you are already a healthy BMI with no disease and looking to improve your health then you can probably find a healthier option than Coke Zero. But in my circumstances switching from Coke Zero to water is hardly going to transform my health.
Losing all my weight will though.4 -
I used to have a terrible coke zero habit. Went cold turkey on all caffeine (painful few days) as I didn't like being reliant on a a substance. It takes a while to get clean of caffeine and get your energy levels up but it is useful. Now if I have a coffee in the morning I will be buzzing through to the afternoon.
Despite the lack of sugar, I am pretty certain it still is not great for your teeth. Also if you are trying to keep your sodium levels within mfp limits fizzy will make it hard.
Years ago I asked a dietitian about coke zero and all she could say against it was the sodium, she was not keen on the idea of replacing water with coke zero.6 -

This myth that it's high sodium keeps persisting. There is 11mg per 100ml. Water has 5mg per 100ml.8
