Successes of the week: Been getting my resistance workouts in.
Challenges of the week: Stretching and sleep still suffering. Had a bad night the other night with a binge that ended in a purge. Haven't done that in a verrrrrrry long time. I would say that I feel bad about it, but I am in a place where I am very detached from my emotions right now. So I am vaguely aware of what I feel, but it's buried pretty deeply under various self defenses, including food.

Time it took to lose: about 3 months
How long in maintenance: 6 weeks

Surpassed Goal of 150 and started "maintaining" Sept. 15th (scale read 148.4).

Success / struggles of the week : This maintaining thing still aludes me. I've lost 4.5lbs in the month of October. I'm still eating healthy food, I'm still logging (even though Saturday I did consider no doing it...LOL). But, obviously, I'm not eating enough to maintain my body weight. We've been going out to eat more too - still at the end of the day I leave calories on the table. I keep telling myself I'll gain enough to get back into my range while on vacation. And the holidays. Maybe this is a good thing?
Successes: Count down to vacation: 12 days! Everything is ready to be packed. We both have hair appointments this week. Next week I have a 2 day conference for work to get through before I can get really excited about leaving. I'll need the vacation after that4 -

30th October: 120.2 scale/ 121.0 trend
Success/struggles of the week: I've been working on trying to make sure I hit my goal every day. I think I did pretty good this week. It is kind of hard because my fitbit tells me almost every day that I am over on calories. But I have found that when I eat what fitbit tells me that I continue to lose weight. So I try to eat about 200 or so calories more than what I get from fitbit. I also lose if I eat what mfp tells me so I am trying the TDEE method. So I am shooting for 2100 each day. I averaged 2076 per day this past week and fitbit says I burned 1827 per day. But my weight is right where it needs to be so I am going to stick with this and hopefully I will level out. It is frustrating because it is hard to know what is a fluctuation and what is actual gain or loss. But looking at my monthly averages this year I have been trending down. It is slow, but it is still a downward trend. I am just hoping I can get it to level out a little more.5 -

LOL the scale has steadily gone up the past several days due to "bathroom issues." Annoying but meaningless although I'd appreciate some cooperation from that part of my body.
I'm continuing and enjoying "Women on Weights" at the Y. This week we focused on cable machines. We also tried the assisted pull up machine which was fun, and I learned to do back extensions on the 45 degree incline bench. I liked those and will work them into my ongoing routine.
Went on a great hike yesterday with hubby, 17,000 steps and 211 floors. We were rewarded with great views from Mt Constance to Mt Baker to Mt Ranier. We looked down on the marine layer that was hovering over Hood Canal and Puget Sound, so we didn't see much of the water, but that's part of the outdoor adventure. A different mood every time. The hike was challenging but not impossible. The downhill is actually more frustrating for me than the uphill. And to think that 3 1/2 years ago I could barely make it up the 3 steps to my porch. THIS is what keeps me going, even on the days I don't "feel motivated."

It's great seeing you all doing so well gives me a little encouragement.6

Success/struggles of the week:
I'm vigilant about my weekly calorie allotment, but within that context I've given myself permission to be somewhat lackadaisical in my transition to maintenance calories - in other words, I'm feeling my way, establishing my priorities on a daily basis, and not worrying about changing them daily. Really takes the pressure off me! And if I find it tolerable, I will continue to move to the lower end of my maintenance range. Meanwhile, I continue to hugely enjoy the treats I've started to stock. And since "presentation" so enhances food, I have decided to replace the masses of ziplock bags in my treat cupboard with an array of clear containers - hehe, I'm going for that old-fashioned candy store look. I tell you when my 11 year old niece returns for a visit next summer, she will go nuts; in summers past she has uncomplainingly made do with the most meagre assortment of toppings for her yogurt (such as whole wheat soda crackers which she crumpled up and used as a sort of mock granola).
I love hearing how y'all are doing, both successes and struggles. There's nothing like being part of a group pulling in the same direction. And quite amazing how inspiring it is. We all have successes and we all have struggles and we sure can relate to the joy and sorrow they cause ourselves and others, and hope for the best for everyone. I don't know if you ever saw the movie called something like "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"... the young proprietor of the fledgling home for the elderly liked to reassure people with something like "Everything will work out fine in the end; and if things aren't fine, it just means we haven't reached the end."
Wishing everyone a lovely week!

Comments:
There has been more variability in my weight (including an odd fractional spike over the upper end one day) and a slight upward trend, despite reducing my average daily caloric intake for the month to about 90 cals/day below my 1900 daily cal limit.
This is puzzling to me. Haven't changed my way of logging food or exercise. So, not sure what the cause of this variability may be. However, my scale has been acting a bit erratically lately.
Not going to dwell on it. Maybe I just need to change the batteries. LOL!

@nichell88 You're still doing great despite being up a couple pounds. This is why we set a maintenance range. For me, maintenance is a CONSTANT series of adjustments. It's maddening I know, but by making small frequent adjustments we can keep on target overall. Maybe we should rename this phase "Adjusting" rather than "Maintaining". "Maintenance" implies we stay exactly the same, which does NOT happen. You've had a great trend since June, so don't panic.
In looking over your numbers, I notice a jump from the 16th to 23rd that is still with you. Is it possible you had water retention from eating out or similar, followed by TOM, or some combination thereof? Also consider whether you've been a tad constipated (TMI). All these things can contribute to a jump like this especially when they happen in combination or one after the other. For me it can take a up to couple weeks for it to fully resolve.
Of course, you know whether your eating habits have changed this month, and if so, you know where you need adjust that part of the puzzle. You are at the top of your goal range so this would be the ideal time to take action. Just adjust your calories down by 100-200 per day. That's about one snack or drink. Do that for a couple weeks and you'll likely be right back in the middle of your range.3 -

I lost 30# over approx 10 months. I started this journey month after having cervical disc surgery. I have extensive degenerative arthritis so I have restricted exercise activities, Ie... No running or jarring to the spine and some restrictions with lifting weights. I love to workout. It energizes me and makes me feel so good. I'm 5'4". 58 years young! My goal weight range is 125-128. Although I have aspirations of 120#, not sure if I could maintain that. Present weight today-126.2#! Yay! I did some struggling last month with trying to figure out this maintenance thing for myself. Others posts on this thread, have helped me a lot. This past week, I really have felt a lot less anxious and fearful of regaining. Looking forward to a great October! Don't ya just love Fall?
Oct 20-weight 128.4#
I’m not too concerned. I’m still in my goal range. Plus I bumped up the amount of weight I’m lifting in my weight training workouts about 2 weeks ago. Hopefully weight is up some as I’m building more muscle!
Successes: It’s been one year since my surgery and I feel like I’m in the best shape I’ve been in years!!!
Oct 27- weight- 127.8#
Down .6 #. Yay! ...from last week
Challenges this past week: I know I continue to snack too much in evening and still not getting enough water. Plan to try harder with these the coming week.
Successes: Not gaining more and staying in my goal maintenance weight range!
Nov 4 - 126.6#. Im now in middle of my goal range. Happy about that! I had a good week.2 -
Rachel, I very much enjoyed your post of Oct 31st0

@joanreneepas
Thanks Joan, and congrats on your position in the sunshine of your goal range!1
