The cooling towers belch vapour into the leaden sky

Rear-view Mirror

Speeding down the highway
The radio's playing a familiar tune
I've got the pedal flat against the floor
And I can't get out of this place too soon
The rain glistens on the tarmac
With the wipers beating double-time
The past reflected in my rear-view mirror
As the road ahead begins to climb

Moving forward
Driving nowhere anywhere
Got to get away from here
Driving myself out of here
Right out of my mind

It's time to change a gear move it up
White lines stretch off into the dark
Headlights reflect off the cat's-eyes
Down the road I'm never coming back
The rain pounds against my windscreen
Like the tears of a god long passed
They mirror the tears in my own eyes
And I know I'm driving too fast

Everything is receding into the distance
My vision is focussed on the road ahead
And time and momentum eat up the miles
Leaving the past long buried and dead
All that are left are reflections

Relationships in the rear-view mirror may appear better than they were in reality.

That's just foolin'! A couple of years ago some friends asked me for some crude rhymes for valentine's cards. I did about 20 of them.

Into Shadow

The shadows creep across the floor
A signal that the moment has passed
The sun sinks low in the distance
And the storm clouds closing in fast

Looking out into the darkened world
The colours all paled and fled
Staring out to the distant horizon
The moonlight faded, dead

I strive to see what I cannot see
To feel what I cannot feel
But the shadows that dwell inside of me
They overwhelm me still
Yes I strive to feel and I strain to see
But this darkness it covers my sight
I still reach out in my blindness
Alone on this cold and dark night

Trapped back here in my weakness
Unable to perceive a way through
Can't find any points of reference
In this monochromatic hue

Everything is all black and white
This world in neglected decay
The moment seems static, frozen in time
And the shadows just won't melt away

I strive to see what I cannot see
