what have YOU given up to help attain your fitness goals?

For me sugar was a HUGE thing to give up, we are talking a 5 POUND bag worth every 2 weeks.......for just my coffee! I still have the old container, with sugar in it and haven't touched it since I quit added sugar Feb 19th 2011. I now use artificial sweetener although some may disagree with that as well, but I like my coffee sweet and light and I am not giving THAT up anytime soon.......I am going to throw that container away because just looking at it reminds me of the stupid headache withdrawls I had......

White Bread...I've switched to Rye. And I actually like it better now (after 3 months.) I had a piece of white, and the sticky ball on the roof of my mouth completely turned me off.0

I used to drink numerous cans of Coke every day. At least 4, but typically more than that. And I try to avoid added sugar wherever possible.
Other than that, I have just shifted from eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted (and lots of it), I now eat whatever I want, after a good workout, in moderation, haha.0 -
I gave up everything that was bad for me. Have not missed any of it. I feel much better and I am almost off of bloodpressure meds. Life is great.0

i have given up sitting on my *kitten* all evening in favour of working out/goign for a run and THEN sitting on my *kitten*!0

Gave up the excess fat and usual low energy levels is exchange for feeling, performing and looking better. Don't think of a healthier life as being a sacrifice.

White bread ->multigrain bread
full cream milk ->skim milk
sugar -> artificial sweetner
fruit juice + soda -> water
lazing around -> working out
I prefer the healthier ones now0 -
Juice! Back in 2009 I was drinking 8 glasses of juice a day and I was baaawwwing why I couldn't lose weight. *facepalm*. I haven't had any juice in months, save for 4 ounces of orange juice last week.0

Way to go! I love diet coke and can easily drink a 2 liter + a day......try not to. Awesome mindset!0 -
To attain fitness goals, I'd probably say the biggest sacrafices have been
1. time.....it takes more time that I'd do other things like read more, my hair is not as nice or as clean as it used to be (since I don't have time to wash/style ever day soi skip days and it really bothers me sometimes because my hairline sweats.....yuck!) and more laundry to do with all the workout clothes everyday or more
2. money.....all the accessories and things needed (more shoes more often, better shoes, HRM, classes/gym, workout clothes more often and more stuff, whether songs for my iTouch or workout weights, dvd's, etc.)0 -
Candy... And I mean like a kid on Halloween night!! I could inhale chocolate and skittles like I was 10.0

Nothing really.
I still eat out, I still drink pop, I still have sweets.
BUT, it's in moderation.
Instead of sitting on my *kitten* I move.
It's not costing me anything to move. Its saving me money on fast food!0 -
I have given up sugar in my drinks (tea, coffee, etc) years ago and instead I used artificial sweeteners. Now since January I have given up the sweeteners aswell. I think sweeteners were bloating. I have given up whole milk and white bread too.0

Meat sausages lol, if I fancy them now I will have veggie ones Also me and my OH used to have a cooked breakfast ever Sunday I no longer do that. Also I try not to eat pork.0

Regular soda altogether. I freakin LOVE soda. But like 10 glasses a day is a whole lot of calories I didn't need (jesus, I just did the math...YIKES), plus wayyyy too much sugar and sodium. Especially for a drink. I drink Coke Zero occasionally now. It's great, sometimes I drink it with dinner but other than that it's water and diet peach tea all day, and Crystal Lite too sometimes.
Also, never ever just eating what I want whenever. Every night before bed I plan exactly what I'm going to eat the next day and put it in. Tracking after you eat means not being able to take back something you ate that made you go over your calories or sugar, carbs, etc. It's so much easier because when I'm hungry I know exactly what to make rather than standing in front of the fridge for five hours and eventually throwing a terrible frozen dinner in the microwave. I try to stick to fresh stuff.
I'm glad I'm not so crazy about bread because my mother always bought wheat breads and I always liked it better than white bread, so it wasn't too hard to not eat it lol0 -

I gave up my belief that I could never lose the weight...63 down from my heaviest, 38 down - and counting - since Jan, 27 to go...
I gave up the thought that I would never be in any kind of decent shape... and ran a 10KM in April and another one in June (right after getting over pneumonia) and... a half marathon in June.
I gave up my fear of failure and replaced it with a celebration of even the smallest successes.
I gave up the massive health risks that come from weighing nearly 63 lbs (at my heaviest) more than I do now and gained a sense of self-worth that I never believed possible.

I've just applied sensible rules of moderation. So long as I keep under my calorie/fat/fibre/protein/carb goals, I'll eat and do pretty much anything I want.
Having said that, I've lost my sweet tooth somewhat and have fewer sugary things, but I just don't fancy them any more; it's not like I'm giving them up.0 -
now that i've read other replies, i guess food stuff i don't really see as a sacrafice since i haven't given up anything, just watch my portions and make trade-off's if i want a bigger portion of something and that's reality for me, i'm short (or fun-sized) and have a slow metabolism so if i eat the portions I'd like i would be bigger and fatter that didn't make me happy!
i also i really love coming up with healthy versions that are yummy when cooking and shopping, it's creatively challenging for me!0 -

alochol, which is a really great thing to give up i mean

cookies

I haven't given up sugar completely but over the years it has been something I feel I've been consuming less and less of. Being on Atkins for as long as I had been made me realize what sugar was doing do my body.
Most recently (within the last year) I've given up diet soda and, for the most part, carbonated beverages in general.
Even more recently than that I've given up (again, for the most part) caffeine. When I have coffee, it's only decaf now, and instead of it being a daily part of my routine, it's now an occasional "treat". This of course might change come cooler weather, but in the middle of a Florida summer it's just not something I can be bothered with.0 -
Sugary drinks!! Only drink water now and its cut down the cravings to almost nothing!0
