Of course, that just meant I went nuts come the weekend, but eventually, it just sorta ended up weaning me off alcohol entirely. I certainly didn't mean for it to happen that way, but January will mark two years of sobriety, and to be honest, I don't actually miss it.
Good for you!! Thats awesome!!! I am hoping to do the same..
Good luck...it certainly gets a lot easier, especially as you're already two months in! This time of year can be hard, what with various office parties and family get-togethers coming along, but I found that letting people know that I wasn't drinking helped to keep me honest, and helped prevent relentless offers of drinks when they would see me empty-handed!
I just tell them I don't drink, but I probably should because I am really good at it...

I am a self recovering alcoholic. After desert storm and the loss of my father I dove deep in the alcohol. That was 1991. 25 years later I decided to quit self destruction and get back into shape. I really started back in April this year. I have gone from 12=15 beers a day to maybe 12 a week, this week was only 5. Long journey, but 35 lbs of fat lost and the muscles are beginning to show. Friends from 30 years are starting to comment that I am getting back to the guy they new in high school. I want to get back to contest shape like I was last time in 1987. Will not quit drinking, I like beer. Just very limited in my future4

Unfortunately with CICO I would rather eat it than drink it.
In all honesty I drink for the buzz and I would need more than 1 drink for that buzz so why get started.
Also....when drinking, munching follows.
The last thing I need is to start getting the drinker " puffer fish red face".
Well those are my cons with no pros in sight1 -

I home brewed beer for about 10 years, beginning in 2003. Learned a lot about brewing and flavors and how to make better tasting beer. Took some sensory training and got certified as a beer judge. That was the good part.
It was way too easy to drink lots of calories (and of course, I preferred the higher calorie beers) when there are kegs of beer in the refrigerator. One of the reasons I'm here now, working on getting back to a healthy weight. I still indulge occasionally but generally drink spirits when I do.
I like your "give away the beer" plan. Just avoid the temptation altogether. I gave away plenty when I was brewing, but not enough, obviously.

Me as well.. I couldnt control my social drinking and it was affecting my marriage so I gave it up.. Havent had a drink since september.. It doesnt bother me at all seeing I only drank when I went out or in a social setting..1 -
Yep, 26 months now. I was partly inspired by my cousin who gave up alcohol 14 years ago. I feel much better for it, and I am coping with baby induced sleepless nights much better than I did with the last one!1

Love wine and Bailey's, but would much rather "chew" my calories.
Much more satisfaction for me from food vs: any drink. Water is my drink of choice now.
Just the way it has to be for me.1 -
I drink QUITE A LOT ON WEEKENDS!0

I don't drink in general. But my goal here is to really increase my water intake!2

The 'plan' is to limit alcohol on my bi-weekly cheating day (1/14) and in my annual 4 weeks of vacation. Just returned from the Caribbeans .... 4-6 drinks a day was the norm. This is the 'recovering week'.
Overall my alcohol consumption is still to high.0 -

I for sure would probably indulge on vacation..1 -

just wondered what titos are? i'm not a big drinker, buy now that i'm trying to lose weight if my husband and I go for a drink or have a glass of wine at home, I make sure I take it off my calories for the day. I've wondered if its even worth it though......

Can't remember the last time I had a drink tbh its not worth the extra calories1

11/28/17 will be 7 months sober for me. I have lost a drastic amount of weight alone by staying away from the whiskey/coke and Budweiser. This is the best i've felt in years.2

Nice! My 5 month is coming up in a couple of days. Eliminating the food choices I made after drinking has been a game changer for me; I would melt full fat cheese over a plate full of corn chips or in a tortilla as common snack. Leftovers would vanish from the fridge; sometimes I basically ate a meal waiting for the nachos in the toaster oven. Between the alcohol and the food, it was like I did an extra day of eating.1 -
I'm 2 1/2 years in without having one sip of alcohol. I was never a big drinker though and I lost a lot of weight drinking occasionally on the weekends so it wasn't for weight loss.
It just got to a point where my taste buds changed and I lost the taste for alcohol. Plus it just wasn't worth the calories - I only liked the super sweet, sugary, very high-calorie stuff.
I don't miss it/crave it at one bit.3 -
I went for 9 days and failed the last 2.0

lol ... that's my style as well (although I have no problem being strict with net calories counting). Wish me luck for the week-end.

Same. Drinking just isn't worth it to me anymore. Would much rather stay in my deficit or eat something delicious.
Once I start going it's hard to stop. So I know 2 beers is going to turn into 4 (or more if we're being honest). One glass is going to turn into a bottle (or 2). Plus hangovers so no thanks.1 -

No alcohol in a year. Been concentrating on my goal toward transformation2

I had to stop all alcohol over a year ago as it raised my blood sugar too much and just wasn't worth giving myself another insulin injection to deal with that.1

Great thread - any concrete suggestions re how to give up or moderate drinking? I find it is a part of my social personality now and when I say I am not drinking, I feel like I am letting down the people I am out with! It’s ridiculous! I suspect I have a binge drinking problem - lots of trouble stopping or moderating intake when out. I know I need to give up these empty calories to get healthier.0
