I eat carbs and am still loosing weight

Hi
I basically have been eat (vegetarian) like I usually do and I just cut calories. That’s working for me. I’ve lost 25 pounds in 6 months. I don’t deprive myself of much. Let’s get this straight... I don’t eat candy or junk food but do eat carbs! If I want a treat I have been having a bowl of Cheerios peanut butter and chocolate with rice milk for my bedtime snack. That’s been working for me. I’m sure if I cut carbs and more fats in be loosing more but I lost a pound the day after thanksgiving!! Just wanted to share that it is possible to loose weight and eat carbs. Thanks for listening

Thanks for sharing your story, @Halloweenmom31. Similar situation for me - I lost 40 lbs in 2016 without giving a hoot about macros. Macros only really started playing a role in my lifestyle / eating habits once I started Maintenance because then my mind shifted to recomp and I needed the protein to support lifting heavy things and building that muscle!2

@Halloweenmom31 Thanks for confirming that. Weight loss or gain is actually related to calorie deficit, or calorie surplus. It doesn't really matter what those calories are made of, and it's certainly okay to include Carbs in your regular diet.12

lol I've eaten pizza during my weight loss- Obviously it was tough work -using a pdf to measure calories first then weighing the pizza slice -btw one XL slice 4 toppings can be anywhere from 350-700 calories EACH. I lost weight on it. Only time I had to manipulate macros was when I was 14% BF then I had to do carb cycling with low carb during week5

Most definitely! I hit my protein and fat goals every week and eat as little or as much carbs as I need/want. In my case, my carbs come from everything from vegetables to candy. I'm maintaining, but I've eaten this way since I started losing weight, and I've never had any issues. It's sad that low carb fads/misinformation have convinced many that eating carbs will stop weight loss. Indeed, some people might find it easier to stick to their deficit with much less non-vegetable and non-fruit carbs, but in the long term (i.e not after a week or a month), weight loss should continue normally.3

It's totally doable. I even eat cake, pie, cookies, candy, ice cream, pizza and on and on. They key is that I just eat less overall than I used to eat. I stay under what I burn and voila, the weight comes off.
You'd only lose more cutting carbs and fats if it took you into a larger calorie deficit.
There's absolutely no need to demonize or cut out any macro to lose weight. I lost 35 lbs in about 5 months and have been successfully maintaining for the last 3.

Absolutely! I love carbs. I did experiment with less carbs and more fat when I was in a deficit for a little while. The fat did help me feel fuller longer. But I never gave up carbs and now I eat plenty of them that I'm in maintenance.2

Ovo-lacto vegetarian, here. I mostly pay attention to protein and iron and let the rest fall where it falls. And where it falls is generally hovering around 50% carbs and lower (not low) fat. I've dropped 94.4 lbs in just under 13 months.7

Unless you have a medical issue, lack discipline and/or just simply enjoy a high fat no carb diet, there is absolutely no reason why you should get rid of carbs. That is a *kitten* myth perpetrated by snake oil salesmen who promote their low carb diets and come up with nonsense like carbs make you fat. What makes you fat is eating over your maintenance calories, that's it unless like I said earlier that you have a medical issue which only a doctor can tell you. I lost around 30 lbs earlier this year despite eating over 200 g of carbs and doing no cardio whatsoever.

What you eat has absolutely nothing to do with how much weight you lose, you could eat 1200 calories of nothing but pigs lard and you would lose a hell of a lot of weight, you are either in a calorific deficit or a surplus, anybody telling you any different is full of crap. x2 -
People who tend to benefit by reducing carbs are those with an underlying health issue or few. For someone who's body is working exactly as it should there will be no need to reduce carbs.3

Congrats OP, its quite a revelation isn't it, to realize that you don't have to cut out certain types of foods in order to be successful at weight loss? Guess what... that includes candy and whatever your definition of "junk food" is as well. You can absolutely include those, in moderation, as part of an overall balanced diet in a calorie deficit, and still lose weight, if you desire.4

I've heard of experiments where a guy lived off candy and chocolate - but stayed in a calorie deficit for 8 weeks. Guess what, he still lost weight.1

I also eat carbs at every single meal. In fact, I go over my carb macro pretty much every day. As long as I stay within my MFP allotted calorie limit, I lose about a pound a week. I've lost 40 lbs. so far and have another 25 lbs. to go. I eat either rice, potatoes, cous cous or some type of pasta every day as well as bread, fruit and cereals. I measure portions carefully, try to meet my protein macros each day and have seen steady and continual weight loss.1

ITA- I love carbs and eat them and so far have still lost weight- thanks for the post- it is SAD how so many people really fear carbs now- oh and fat too though maybe not as much as carbs-2

I ate an entire frozen pizza for breakfast yesterday. 900 calories & almost entirely carbs. But stayed in deficit for the day = weight still trending down.
