Almost through the second year of maintenance at a healthy weight, after losing 50+ pounds (180s to 120s at 5'5") at age 59-60, and just had another blood test. Improvement continues, best one yet!
Sure, total cholesterol is still 208 . . . but only because HDL (the good one) is a whopping 93!
Here are the other numbers, with the worst-ever pre-weight-loss numbers for each in parentheses for comparison:
Total cholesterol: 208 (281)
Triglycerides: 61 (402)
HDL: 93 (36)
LDL: 103 (179)
VLDL: 12 (80)
Ratio: 2.2 (6.2)
For me, this was pretty much just weight loss: I eat similar things, just less; my workout routine is the same (I was very active while obese).20 -
From today and forever more...I'm my own best friend! I'd totally embraced the new attitude of being my own "cheerleader" since starting this weight loss quest, but today I learned (and am learning) to be (and to consider) myself as being my very own best friend. This is a new concept for me (which is a shocking/amazing realization for me to grasp and identify with, as old as I am ), but one that fills me with a powerful joy and deep humility at the exact same time. I'm NOT referring to my choosing/recognizing and DAILY walking in this "new" BEST friendship with myself in ANY type of pretension, haughtiness, pride nor conceitedness AT ALL, but in true meekness and love of/for myself--WOW!
I'm my own best friend from this day forth...big ole nsv for me. This may sound strange, foolish or half-baked--but it's a thrilling revelation that I sure wish I learned earlier in life--but as I always say, better late than never--W W and YAY!19 -

I noticed that all of my workout leggings are starting to be to big. I have to keep pulling them up when I am walking or working out. So happy because I used to have major love handles stick out over the sides.19

I had to go out of town for work for two days this week, which meant being away from my kitchen, where I have so much more control over what I cook and eat. It would have been so easy to make excuses and forget about being healthy, but made healthy choices for all of my meals, came in under my calorie goal both days, AND I even squeezed in a quick workout in the hotel gym!17

I get to wear my (real) wedding band again, after being unable to squeeze it on my finger for over 3 years! I love my silicone ring for work but I missed my diamonds.15

I went to the gym last night and did the workout that someone posted on here:
5minutes running at normal speed (NS)
1min walking
4minutes (NS) +0.5
2min walk
3min (NS)+1
3min walk
2min (NS)+1.5
4min walk
1min (NS)+2
I didn't quite get the speeds (9.5;10;10.3;10.5;11); and found the middle section the hardest. But I did 70seconds for the final one as it took 8 seconds for the treadmill to get up to speed. I felt like I could have done a small ladder again after it; so I guess my recovery is quicker.
Thank-you for whoever originally posted this as it's a great go to workout.
Biggest NSV is that I haven't had desserts all this time I've been at work; even though the food is awful. Only fresh green is steamed Kale night after night12 -
Ran a mile in 11:52!!!! One of my 2017 New Year’s resultions was to run a 12 min mile.
For comparison, the first time I ran a mile without stopping was on 7/15/16. It took me 15:45.32 -
I've been doing laps in the pool before and after my aqua aerobics class for the past couple of months. Yesterday I did my nine "before" laps and stretched out in the water to wait for the instructor to arrive. I noticed that my legs no longer float to the surface of the water but sink down to the bottom. (The pool is just 3'10" deep there.) Not only that, but the only way my upper body stays above water is if I take a deep breath and hold it so that my lungs are filled with air. Once I exhale, I sink down again. I have floated in water all my life, because fat is so much lighter than muscle. 84 lbs down, and there's a lot less fat in here now.
So . . . I have more muscle than fat in my legs. I am agog.30 -
1) At our weekly cycling session yesterday, a couple of guys who are older than me were talking about sweets from their childhoods. They looked at me, laughed and said, "You're far too young to remember these ones." So I asked which ones and it turns out that, yes, I did remember them from childhood. They looked totally shocked that I knew - and had eaten - them as a child. I'm taking that as a compliment that I look nowhere near my age. I did have to point out though, that when I was a child they were two-a-penny and not eight-a-penny (good old inflation!).
2) My husband and daughter asked what I wanted for Christmas. And I could only think of a running jacket, running shoes, some small dumb-bells, reflective jacket for cycling, a new light for my bike, winter tyres for my bike, etc, etc. Cue much eye-rolling from my nearest and dearest so I just told them not to get me anything (I'm developing a phobia of "junk" and anything not useful is junk to me now) as I'd rather put the money towards moving house (if we ever find one!). What is it about losing weight/improving my fitness that makes me want to chuck loads of stuff out? I used to be such a hoarder and now I just want it all out of my life. I hate the clutter.
3) Did my 20th Parkrun today. The track was extremely icy which meant that some parts had to be walked a i was not willing to risk causing a further flare of my inflammatory arthritis through a fall injury. But that was fine, and I was only six minutes longer than usual, despite walking at least half of it. Then tonight, as I felt mildly cheated about not running a 5k, my son and I went for a 3 mile run and completed it in a decent time. It's the small things that make this crazy woman happy!33 -
I had an injury to my knee but didn't stop going to crossfit class, my coaches just modified work out to not aggravate my knee.....didn't want to stay home as that starts a bad habit.20

My Hubby and I, have a 1996 Chevy pickup and ever since we bought it almost 2 years ago, I have had a hard time buckling my seat belt. Now this truck has a passenger seat problem and any other vehicle, I never think will I be able to buckle up or not. It has always been embarrassing to me, to have my husband basically help me make sure my seat belt locks. Well, as of yesterday, when we went to go somewhere, my seat belt clicked with lots of strap from the seat belt left to spare! I am so happy!!25

Just back from our most active cruise ever, and down two pounds! NSVs:
1. Rode an ATV through the jungle.
2. Rode a Segway on a beautiful beach - I’m under the weight limit for the first time.
3. Wore a snake across my neck for five seconds. Never again - it was nauseating - but I wanted to try and I did!
4. Eagerly sought out backgrounds to have our pictures taken.
5. Walked the treadmill 30 min five days, looking forward to it.
Who IS this happy, involved woman?!38 -

Speaking for myself I love #3 the best by far. Well done to you on all 5.3 -
I just bought my first ice skates! My weight loss is inspiring me to participate in all the recreational sports that I've always wanted to do. I feel like I've lost enough weight to balance myself on ice skates I'll probably still fall a few times, but that's okay.21

I just had my annual blood work results from the doctor
The previous set was done on 19 January 2017 where I weighed 131.7kg, had a diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome which included Blood Pressure 155/95, resting heart rate 88, Type II diabetes , cholesterol 9.8, Fatty Liver Syndrome
Todays results:
CW 103kg
BP 125/80
Resting heart rate 66
NON DIABETIC
Cholesterol 6.2 of which only 1.2 'bad' cholesterol
Liver function normal
Diagnosis 'no evidence of Metabolic Syndrome'
I started my fitness journey 21 July and today is day 152

Yay you for trying a new sport!!! I love to skate and have enjoyed doing it most of my life..... young, thin, old, and fat! LOL
One piece of advice: please wear a helmet when you start out, because there's nothing more chilling than hearing the back of someone's head bounce off the ice10 -

Riding around with my daughter and her family looking at Christmas lights, I sat in the way-back with my granddaughters in the little center seat between their two boosters. One of those unexpected, spur-of-the moment NSV's, even more wonderful because the girls and I had so much fun.22

I can see more definition in my waist. I only measure myself once a month so I'm unsure as to whether I'm imagining things or I really did lose inches in my waist. I feel good about it though.15

14 months apart. I actually took about a 6 month break from April to October where I gained about 15 pounds. Still 50 pounds lighter than just over a year ago and about 8 inches smaller in the waist. I feel so much better physically and self-esteem wise. About 50 more to go!31 -
I brought the leftover cake from my son's birthday party to work for my co-workers instead of eating it myself at home!23

Flew this weekend, first time since 30 lb loss. Crossed my legs in the middle seat, ha! Also able to rest my head on my arms on the tray and catch a nap, haven't been able to do that 20 years17

Able to do the hamstring exercise on my elbows and knees for my first time ever! (I usually substitute a standing version.) I couldn't even do the elbows and knees version when I was in my 20s (51 now). Woot!13

I drink coffee not in itself a NSV but I also use sugar in my coffee. I've tried no sugar sweetener but don't care for the after taste. Well in the last 2 months I've dropped from using over 8 teaspoons of sugar to using 4 teaspoons. I'm still working on lowering that but I call that a NSV for me. Maybe in the next 2 months I can get to 1 or none. Time will tell.35

Had end of year review w/ my boss. Upon inviting me in her office, she gave me the look over, but didn't say anything. Upon leaving, she escorted me out, gave me the look over again and said I'm looking good.15

I just graduated from doing push-ups on my knees to full push-ups.40
