I don't mind that they are setting it up for the future, and having it geared towards new viewers. Friends of mine who are 10 years (or more) younger than me didn't experience the originals as they were being released in the theaters. Nor were they aware of how difficult it was to try and gather information for the original movies as they came out. I read all the original books numerous times, as well as anything that related to info on characters, stories, etc. So, it's their time to experience the excitement.I agree with your comment on Snoke, and Kylo has set himself up now in that role. It's just the first time a Sith Master was killed before the end of trilogy.
While I disagree with Luke's passing in this movie, I did like how he force projected himself to face Kylo. Was very cool, and showed just how strong he was with the force. My whole issue with the scene of his passing was that he was very taxed from the fight (sweating, collapsed to the ground, etc), then he seemingly climbs up on the rock to sit cross-legged with almost no hesitance to then vanish.
In a sense, I get it. But, I think it could have been edited just a little better with more of a struggle to climb up.
Overall, I'll watch it again. I'm not a fan of 3D movies. Most of them give me headaches, and wearing the glasses is not comfortable. I actually prefer to watch movies in regular format.
Actually baffles me a little that the Imax versions of movies have been 2D lately.0 -

I actually prefer to watch movies in regular format.I don't know if Luke's fate has been commented on by the writers or Mark Hammil because I've tried to avoid spoilers but I know sometimes the actor doesn't want to be part of the movies anymore so they write in their "out". I really would've enjoyed having him in more of the movies though.
While I didn't care for Kylo Ren as a villain in TFA I think his role in this movie was at least an improvement. I'd like to see him act more methodically and heartless than just with temper tantrums. For what it's worth, my 11 year old nephew's favorite parts were "the booby lady" in the casino screaming when those creatures trampled through , the green milk, and when Snoke was cut in half.
So it's a reminder that parts I may have thought were a little too silly were fun through a kid's eyes.
3D of this movie is really well done. Mark Hamell did not like the direction they took his character. I thought all the Finn and Rose scenes were for kids.0 -

Finally got to go see it today. The first 10 minutes had me thinking it was going to be full of forced comedy with the General Hux/Poe Dameron exchange but it wasn't bad. Had a few quips, nothing that hasn't already been talked about though. All in all I say they did a pretty good job appealing to the older fans as well as the younger audience that they're targeting nowadays. Ill try and make it back to the theater and watch it again, I'm sure theres a few things I missed.0

That's what I was curious about. That's a real shame. I'll have to go stalk his Twitter since I've been avoiding it

This movie seems to have been made to be watched more then once. There is some foreshadowing that I found interesting and some other stuff I missed. I am curious if it holds up well to watching it again.0 -

There was definitely a lot going on in this one with the different storylines but I didn't think it felt rushed. It may be on blu-ray before I get a chance to watch it again.0 -

IMO this was a giant let down...far too many questions left unanswered and too little character development (I mean, did anyone care about the Fin & random chick side-quest? Who is Snoke? Phasma?). I could rant on this topic for a while and don’t get me started on Leia pulling a Mary Poppins by flying back into the ship from outer space...anyways I digress0

A bit more. She was 17 at the time in in her autobiography reports that Ford was banging her . #HerToo.1 -
I've already seen it twice, loved it!1

The movie was great! I enjoyed it! It could have done without two scenes in my mind. That whole casino thing! Wow! What on earth was that. Princess Leia doing her best superwoman impression *rolls eyes*. Thanks for reminding us that she has a little Jedi in her. Useless scenes.
On a whole, movie was great!2 -
I enjoyed it...0

I'm happy they added that, because I could tell that she saw him in real time as well as could hear him.0 -
The Princess Leia flying like Peter Pan was a little cheesy. However it did finally establish that Leia could use physical force powers.0

I just saw the movie again. It was still good and didn't seem like 2.5 hours.1
-
I do agree that the whole Leia flying through space scene was a bit cheesy, but overall I thought it was great!1

Apparently that was always going to happen. Also that means he can come back indefinitely but not over shadow the new cast. Doesn't mean I like it though.0 -

New stories?
Rey/Finn/Poe are the new Leia/Luke/Hans. Nothing new there. Regurgitating characters. Luke is the new Obi Wan.
Poe's character is supper annoying. Less of him would go a long way.
Rey developed into a Master Jedi by going through the drive-thru lane at Jedi U.
The force can do some powerful stuff until you need to fight someone then it disappears and you have to resort to hand-to-hand combat.
The chrome storm trooper? What was her purpose? Stupid 5 minutes.
The powerful battleship of the Empire could fire massive cannons down to the surface of the planet but in order to open the door at the last hiding place of the rebellion, they had to bring down a battering cannon along with a dozen camel fighting machines?
I support women being empowered and glad to see them taking positions of leadership but Disney was in-your-face, over-the-top with this movie. Why didn't they introduce a gay male character to be in a position leadership?
I've had over 24 hours to let the movie sink and it gets worse the more I think about it.
Interesting the chrome suit was made from the Naboo ship used by the emperor when he was still a senator. It's in the books.
They destroyed that ship so they couldn't use it.
I don't disagree with your outlook on most of it, but I take these movies just like the new Star Trek movies. I want to see new star wars stuff and I want to be entertained. I gave up on expecting any magic like in the OT.0 -
It's funny because a lot of people don't like it because it's too different (are they blind?), I didn't like it because it was too much the same.
I understood why they did it in Force Awakens, but ok, you got our attention, maybe now you could be a bit more original, please? Give us something more than the new trained Jedi leaving training to 'save' the bad guy because there's still good in him, having a big confrontation with the big bad (that the person the Jedi came to save ends up killing after he shows them how the rebels are losing through a spaceship window). Then the trainer having met his purpose and force dying after confronting the new enemy.... BAH. It's like they mashed up ESB and RotJ into that joke of a movie.
Yeah a month later and I'm still seriously peeved about this. I actually did like the Poe/Finn parts because at least it was something new.... Heck I think I even liked the prequels more. *gasp*0 -

Basically that's what the director tried to do in this one, is get all the stuff that was in the other ones out of the way so something new could be done for the 3rd.0 -
