So I went off of plan on Christmas Eve and ate A LOT on Christmas Day. I weighed 6st 13lbs on Christmas Eve and today I weigh 7st 6lbs a gain of 7 lbs! I’ve got straight back on plan today already walked 13,000 steps and I’m working tonight! Do you think my weight will return to normal by next week? I feel like I’ve ruined all of my hard work in one day!!

Really? You ate a load of food and now you're surprised to have gained weight.
:huh:23 -
you didn't ruin your hard work - christmas food tends to be higher sodium, plus stress, water retention etc - 7lbs is well within the realm of normal. get back on your plan and you'll be fine11

Weight gain like that is about more than just fat: there could be bloating, extra waste in your system, water weight from who knows what. Don’t stress out - hopefully you had a good time yesterday, and if you get back to your normal habits the weight will drop off again in a week or two.4
-
If you gained 7lbs in 24 hours I would not worry to much as some of that would be water weight I am sure. My weight can fluctuate 5lbs in one day due to not drinking enough fluids when I get busy. Just get back on track and dont worry about one day.4
-
Think logically - it takes approximately 3500 calories over Maintenance calories to gain one pound of fat. Did you eat 24,500 calories over Maintenance yesterday? Probably not. Most of it is likely water weight and/or simply food still in your system. Could also be stress or lack of sleep which are often issues this time of year, too.
Everyone will see the scale return to “normal” at different times based on how their individual body reacts. For me - takes normally 5-7 days.
The important thing is that you go back to your normal routine starting right now. If that includes walking 13,000 steps before work, cool. If it doesn’t, then I would stop trying to make up for bad decisions by working out more than normal - that’s a slippery slope to a bad relationship with food.
Good luck. Remember one day is a blip on the radar. It’s what you do for the majority of days that results in change.14 -
How tall are you? Maybe you can stop thinking you've ruined your hard work and instead feel great at a normal healthy weight?9
-
I'm up a bit more than that after two days. It's literally water and food in my guts. Chill. You can't undo much in two days. I'll just get back to a normal intake and then see what the scale says in a couple of weeks (which is typically how long it takes before I'm back to "normal" weight wise. For some people the water whooshes off faster).4

Your profile says you are a recovering anorexic? How tall are you?
I think you know yourself what is going on and what exactly has transpired from eating over the Christmas holidays. Get back on track with your recovery is all you need to do.5 -

Yes, this. Unless you’re extremely short, I wouldn’t worry about the weight gain at all (not that I would anyway even at my height).2 -

just noticed this as well...also noticed that you still have the mantra of anorexics as your tag line...do you have a treatment team you can get back in touch with?3 -

Didn't notice that I still had that on my profile! I recovered over 2 years ago and I'm absolutely fine Thanks though

There's nothing wrong with touching base with your old team, though, to let them know how you're doing and to run any concerns about your weight and eating habits by them. Staying healthy is an ongoing project after all, not a one-and-done.5 -

How tall are you, though? Because unless you are very short, that doesn't seem much like a recovered weight -- especially when combined with the gain concern.

You're fine. You ate outside your normal realm, and put on some water weight. Don't go crazy. Just get back to normal. Water weight for me usually mellows out within a week.
I spent the last 3 days eating cookies and reading a book. I'm not even thinking of stepping on the scale for at least a week.0 -

Exactly. The OP weighs 106. If she is 4' 7'' or taller she is in the healthy range. If she is 5'2'' or taller she was underweight before she gained.2 -

"Normal" is 97 pounds, and the OP has a prior and possibly relapsed eating disorder4 -

Okay, so I still stand by "don't go crazy" trying to make up for it. I extra stand by it.1 -

Given the selective answers, I think we can take a pretty good guess...4 -
You probably gained 1lb and are retaining water0
-
OP there are a lot of red flags in your post, especially for someone in recovery for an eating disorder. It would probably be good for you to reach out to your therapist to talk through these feelings. Good luck.9

Weight gain doesn't happen that suddenly, not the permanent kind. You might be noticing fluctuations in the amount of waste in your body, the amount of water, etc. If you did gain weight, it would have been for stuff you did 1-2 weeks before. Just eating a bunch for a few days takes a while to catch up to you in a lasting way. I am sorry you're feeling this panic and worry. I think as long as you log all your calories, stay below your calorie goal, and try to weigh yourself once a week at the same time of day, naked, you'll be able to get a better idea of your progress. I know how hard it is not to weigh daily. I do fall into that habit but I get discouraged when I do it because of such fluctuations and they have nothing to do with what I've done in the past few days. I only actually "check in" my weight about once a week because I got really discouraged in the past. Then I look at my reports and watch the graph to see my weight IS actually steadily decreasing and it makes me feel A LOT better.0

When you make a choice to go off your plan and eat all the things you need to be prepared to accept the aftermath. Don't step on the scale the day after and freak out that there were consequencrs. Extra waste in your system, water retention will bump up the scale number too. You do not gain or lose 7 lbs of fat in 2 days.
Just get back to eating and exercising normally. Be patient. Wait a week to weigh yourself2 -
I'm up 6.6lbs from last Friday. It is what it is, it should all/ or most hopefully drop off within a week or so.2

You’re “absolutely fine” and yet made this post?
What is with our education system where the idea of water weight and food in ones system is such a foreign and terrifying situation? The amount of adults that freak about this is heart wrenching.3 -
Don't worry...had the same fear after office parties. Lost it 7 lbs after a week of returning to proper food intake levels and exercise. Just make it goal to balance the year out. Good luck0

This. It's absolutely fine to have days when you go off-plan. However, a part of doing that is also expecting and accepting the usual aftermath and not freaking out about it. Doing the first part without expecting the second is just a recipe for misery. If you don't want the second part, then don't do the first part.1
