"Cups" refers to metric cups, the kind used for cooking/baking etc. not tea cups or drinking cups.
1 cup = 250 mL (in Australia)
You can generally get sets with a 1/2 cup, 1/4 cup, 1/8 cup, sometimes 1/3 and 2/3.1 -
