Personally, i thought it brought some important info into the mainstream, which i am thankful for. Those who make money off your poor health, and those who make money off of selling you crap food, certainly didn't like the message, and i think that is why there has been such a backlash against it. I highly recommend the movie!
What about all the people making money off of peoples' fears and misconceptions about how our food system really works? Like organic sellers, the Non-GMO project, every alternative practitioner, cancer cure quacks to name a few. They're okay because they're not Monsatan or Big Pharma or <insert bogeyman here>?12 -
Is this the one where they're like pan frying cigarettes or something and equating that with eating a steak? Laughable...
Really, you have to be pretty careful with any documentary on pretty much any subject as most aren't objective and most are pushing some agenda or another. They can be interesting, but should be taken with a grain of salt...especially when they're doing outlandish things like comparing sauteed cigarettes to eating a piece of meat...5 -
- The documentary says the problem stems in part from corporations and industries putting profits ahead of public health.
- Furthermore it claims they use lobbyists from industry associations to protect their interests.
This is why these types of movies are so convincing to certain people. They make a few basic assertions that no reasonable person would disagree with, and then use that base to make the claims that have no scientific basis seem reasonable.10 -
If it's anything like the other "health" related documentaries on Netflix, I'm sure it's garbage.
Nature documentaries, ftw. Especially if they are narrated by David Attenborough.7 -
Although the documentary was a "bit" sensational, it did bring up some decent points about the abuses and the hidden dangers in our food supply, especially meat. I typically use locally sourced meats anyway as well as my produce for the most part. There are good points in the film but you have to look past the obvious vegan overtones of it.12

People who think there are hidden abuses and dangers in the food supply should really talk to some farmers sometime. Many of them on social media now, you'll learn a heck of a lot more from them than you ever will from a mockumentary.7 -
That's the nice thing about being as rural as I am since I know most of the farmers around here as well as many of the dairy and chicken house owners. Even a few cattle ranches. Some I trust, others I know way too well to even think about it. The remainder of the food I buy at stores I would hope is fit for consumption but that's a risk you take for loving bananas. lol3

Hi! So nice to see you! I have to admit David Attenborough saying tentacles makes me giggle like a school girl. Every. Single. Time.
As for What the Health, I tried watching it, but it was so OTT drama llama that I couldn't make it through more than the first 15 minutes. I have no doubt that some of the message is on point, but much of it is lost in scare tactics that are extended beyond what is currently supported by studies.
I agree with @lemurcat12 that a balanced discussion would be of much more interest.

But if you are worried about money influencing info, check into one of the Doctors featured in the film, Dr. Greger. He has no ads on his website and his youtube account is un-monitized.

Seriously?!? His entire website is an ode to selling everything that he has ever touched in his lifetime...7 -

Have you seen the nature documentaries narrated by Snoop Dog? You should look it up. Hilarious!3 -

He asks $15,000 minimum for speaking engagements. It goes to his foundation, but if you think there isn't serious money involved in what he does, you'd be wrong.

And his website is just as full of biased half-truths, junk science and hysterical vegan propaganda as What the Health is. Yet he passes it off under the bogus "call to authority" name of 'nutritionfacts'. I'd be surprised if there's one actual 'fact' on that entire website.5
