How long did it take to lose 50

Question, how long did it take you to lose 50 pounds? I’m wanting to lose 50 in 6-8 months but fear it’s not possible. Stats: 5,4, 181 pounds. 1600 calories per day with ~20-30 minutes exercise every day. Walking and light weight lifting

I started off at 217, and lost 50 lbs in about 7 months, Im also 5'4. With you being lighter and only being 40 lbs away from the top of a healthy BMI it might not happen in 6 months.5

Is there something magical that happens in 6-8 months? What if you lost 50lbs in 10 months instead? Do you ONLY have 50lbs to lose? Your mileage is going to vary based on your stats.
I think I lost 50lbs in 6 months, but I was 250+ when I started.
The best course of action is to plug your info into MFP, pick a 1.5lb per week loss, and stick to that calorie deficit (and eat some of those exercise calories back). After you lose 10-15lbs or so, plug your info back into MFP with a 1lb per week loss rate and repeat. After the next 10-15lbs, plug your info back into MFP with a .5 per week loss rate and repeat.
Expect the loss rate to drop a bit once you get to the last 10lbs. By a bit, I mean, losing 40lbs might feel easy. Losing the next 10lbs could feel not so easy. Regardless, you'll be 40lbs lighter than when you started, so you might as well stick with it.10 -
It will take me roughly 50 weeks if I keep up this trend.2

How long it takes is totally up to each individual person. Just because it takes one person 8 months to lose 50 pounds doesn't mean it's going to take the next person the same amount of time if they are only putting in half the effort. Losing around 6 lbs per month IMO is doable but won't be a whole lotta fun for you.2

I am 5'4. I started at 195 and now I am 146.
I started logging loosely in July and lost 20 lbs. I started logging EVERYTHING in the end of August.
I go to the gym off and on.. not really consistently. I eat 1300-1500 calories.4 -
I lost 50 pounds in six months back in 2012. It can be done. Good luck!6

30 weeks for the first 30 lbs, 40 weeks for the final 20. That's if you're very consistent with your calorie deficit.4
-
It took me a year and a half. I did it slowly and took lots of maintenance breaks. I think some people can find it discouraging when losing at such a slow rate, but I wasn't in any rush and I've managed to keep it off for the last 5 years.10

Took me about 9 months to lose 40 Lbs...average trend was about 1 Lb per week, but not in a linear fashion...1

i lost 50 in 6 months. but i was also 280 pounds. if i was 50 away from my goal weight (as I am now), i wouldnt expect or hope for anything more than a pound a week at MOST, and realistically, the more you lose and closer you are to your goal weight, the less that will be4

Took me 5 months. I'm 5'7". I started at 214 and I am now 161. I'm pretty close to the top of the normal BMI now, so I imagine it's starting to slow down. Big factor is how overweight you are to begin with!3

Starting at a high weight over 300 it took about 2.5 months to lose 50 lbs. But if you weigh more you lose faster. The slower you can lose the better.3

Whoa. How.1 -
I started at 221 in June 2017 and in December I was at 174. I lost 47 pounds BUT... it took a dedicated effort to behave well food-wise and I went from zero exercise to 3-4 times per week of strength training and cardio. I still have 30 to go to get to the top end of a healthy BMI, though with the muscle I've put on, I don't think that will be within reach unless I give some of that up so I'm switching up my target to focus on body fat percentage.
Long and short - it can be done. For you, you don't have as much as I did to lose which will make it more difficult because weight doesn't come off linearly. At the start, I dropped 12 pounds in the first two weeks (water weight), and now I'm having to carefully measure and weigh everything that goes into my mouth to keep up 1 pound per week of loss. But it's possible, anything is - the question you have to ask yourself is whether or not the short term pain is going to help you keep the weight off in the future or if you should settle for a more conservative number in that time period to help set yourself up for success?6 -
OP, I threw your stats in a TDEE calculator set to "lightly active" and your current deficit should be about right to lose 1lb/week.

I'm 5'5", lost weight in 2015-16 (age 59-60, hypothyroid).
SW, 4/17/15 - 183 pounds
First time I hit 133 (there's always a little bouncing around ): 10/23/15 (133.5, actually - never hit right on 133 on a morning weigh-in).
That was a little more aggressive for a while than was good for me, though. I'd suggest a bit slower.0 -

Try putting your details into Loser Town3 -
50 pounds in 8 months - that's about 34 weeks. 50/34=1.47 pounds a week.
Weight loss won't be linear. You may start off with 1.5 pounds a week, but it's not likely to continue for the whole 8 months. That's because you have to lower your calories as you become a smaller person and you can only reduce your calories so far (without sacrificing nutrition). A 1.5 pound a week loss is a 750 calorie deficit every day.2 -
I’m wanting to get to 130 pounds down from 181, primarily because I’m wanting to get fit and all before the whole starting a family thing. If I can lose 50 pounds then that should give me greater license to gain 30!
In terms of diet, I’m eating a ton of veggies and trying to cook dinner every night and logging every.single.morsel.
Whenever I get a chance I’ll walk for 10 minutes throughout my day and then exercising after work as well.0 -
Never put a time limit/schedule to losing weight. Just do what you are supposed to do (eat less, move more) and let the process do it's thing.
Trust me, there's no rush. It's not like you get to goal weight and the struggle ends, everything is coming up roses and kittens, and you've figured out life. Then you have to figure out how to keep it off - that's where the fun begins.7 -

It took me over a year. I did it slowly so I wouldn't risk losing a lot of muscle. Biggest mistake I made though was being at a caloric deficit for an entire 12 months because it did some major damage to my metabolism. Took me over a year to recover :-(2

Yeah, I’m sticking to 1600 a day because I tried 1200 once and couldn’t manage it I was sssooo hungry. 1600 seems good though

I lost 60lbs in a year, started at 270lbs, 5'10. Gained 5lbs back during my two weeks of holidays. I didn't put a timeline on my weight loss and focused on more a -1lbs deficit weekly, plus adding in exercise I enjoyed. My goals aren't for weight loss but for personal satisfaction (i.e. I ran a 5K then 10K and will soon be prepping for a half marathon in the spring).
Slow and steady, and give yourself plenty of time to reach your goals. This is a lifestyle change. If it takes a year to lose 50lbs, that's okay. You'll still get there.1 -
The first 50 lbs. About a year.
The second 50 lbs. another year and a half.
The last 15 lbs took 7 months.
It honestly depends on how overweight you are to start.
But I always choose to look at this way: the time is going to pass anyways, does it matter if it happens in 6 months? a year? more?3 -
I figure it will take me 3 years. I’m 2 years in now. Lost 22 pounds in 2016, lost 15 in 2017, plan to lose 13 in 2018. Slow loser right here!3

Starting on 21 July
took until 10 October to drop 50lbs
but I started at 292 so was a lot easier for me0 -
I lost 48-49 lbs, over a year and a half, going from 185 to 136-137 at 5'5''.
I deliberately took a long time to lose weight as I'm unable to function below say 1600 calories per day.
Eating just a bit below maintenance was a great preparation for maintenance itself, which I've been successfully doing for about nine months now.1 -

I wish so much that this was the goal for more people on here and not just to lose as fast as possible.7 -
5 months, but I also started out at 300 lbs.1
