Do you all have tips on how to portion out your food

I personally think the easiest way to portion out snacks like chips is to read how many servings are in the package and then take some sandwich bags and make that many bags of the snack. For instance if you get a bag of chex mix and the entire bag is 8 servings then you should make 8 little bags of chex mix and be close to the correct portion size.

I just put the bowl on the scale, turn on the scale, and put food in the bowl until the scale reaches the weight of food I plan to eat.33

This. I log a whole day of food before I eat it, and know how much of something I get to eat. (I sometimes weigh food out of the container, depending on the food... But same same)7 -

Same. When having my first cup of coffee in the morning, I log my meals and portions for the day. I guess on things like whole fruits and update the log with the actual. It's usually real close.
ETA: at one point, I frequently overate almonds. They're my weakness. So for a long time, when I opened a bag, I'd immediately portioned them out into packets as you've described. I had some resistance to diving into a second packet whereas I had very little resistance to having "a couple more." Anyway, it did help me stop overeating them. Now I just weigh them out and I've broken the habit of going for more than allocated.9 -
I look at what a serving size weighs, weigh it and eat it. If I want more or less of the serving size, I use the info to work out how big a serve fits my calories, or how many calories my chosen serve is, weigh it out, and eat it.
I pre-log my day, so I know how much I have to play with.6 -
I think scale is easier. No need to waste several bags. I just weigh out whatever I want to eat and seal the bag/container. I don't always eat exactly the serving size listed, so that's another reason why scale is easier for me. Just look at my calories for the day and how many I'm willing to spend on any particular thing and weigh out the amount of calories I feel is appropriate.10

Food scale for the win. Plus wasting plastic baggies is bad for the environment. I only use baggies for food I'm taking to work or road trips.8

I do that with cereal or else my hand continually makes it's way into the box (for just a handful or two) and it never gets logged.0 -
For me the portion sizes on the label are a curiosity and little else (I'm often interested to know whether I eat more or less than what they think the portion size is). However, when I'm actually going to eat it I go by how much I want and can fit into my calories. Then I get the scale out.4

I'm extremely grateful our labels show nutrition info per 100g. I don't even bother looking at food "per serving"!7 -

Yeah, our labels show info per 100g too, sometimes with an additional column for nutrition info per recommended portion or just list the number of portions in the package with a portion recommendation on the side, but info per 100g is the standard.
I do look at portion size out of curiosity, but only use it for some foods like ice cream or oatmeal for no discernible reason.0 -
I 'portion' out my food using a food scale. I'm down 130 lbs so I must be doing something right.8
-
I found that serving sizes often don't add up. I might read something on a packaging like: contains approximately 5 servings (40gr). And at the bottom of the package I read that there's a total of 230gr inside the package, thus nearly 6 servings.2

But the labels are out by up to 20% ?
Scale everytime4 -

that.
i either eat it then or put it in a container to take to work that day.
im far too lazy to do an entire bag of chips or whatever at one time, not to mention keeping track of all the *kitten*.
no thanks.1 -
I weigh the pack, use what I want, reweigh the pack and subtract... then I log the amount of grams I've had!
This works particularly well with cream cheese, peanut butter, spreads etc... but works for nuts, crisps and snacks equally well1 -

An easier scale trick if you're not using a separate bowl for something: instead of subtracting, put the bag/jar on the scale, tare it to zero, remove the portion you want, and the scale will show the weight of the portion removed without having to subtract. Some scales don't go into the negative, so may not work for everyone.7 -
The easiest way for me to handle 'snacks like chips' is to not even buy them with the intent of consuming them. I buy a good-tasting 'no sugar' ice cream which gives 90 calories per 0.5 cup serving, and have that as my snack most days. Salty carby snacks like chips tend to be my downfall.6

Gah. I wish the US would get on board with this. Stupid imperial system.5 -

I like the idea of making portioning out a whole bag of something to just grab. Currently the only thing that I would have to do that for are chicharrones. If I keep the bag in the kitchen, I might weigh out a serving, but if I keep them in the dining room I just dig in the bag and eat. I rarely buy chips and if I do they are already prepackaged. Everything else I just weigh it before I eat it.0

Can't lie I'm often lazy so when snacking I just put stuff in baggies to exercise some self control especially if I'm watching t.v while snacking lol1 -
I use a scale for meat and items I know I tend to underestimate the weight of. Veggies and milk I use a half cup measuring cup. For cheese, I buy the mozzarella sticks or presliced cheese0

1. Food scale
2. Food scale
You’re never gonna guess what #3 is9 -
I’m all about the food scale for things most things. But I still like to portion out snacks by serving so they are grab an go.1

What if I want two servings? or what if I want 48grams of a 90gram serving because it fits my calories?0
-
I have lots of little snack containers and snack baggies. I don’t rely on what the container says for servings though, I use my scale and go by the serving size in grams. If I don’t portion it out like this, I use my scale and put it on a plate or in a bowl. I never eat straight out of the bag.
I don’t need the barcode/info because I’ve already added it my foods in the app.
If I want more, I eat more. If I want less, I eat less.2
