Doesn't the body go into fat storing mode when it's cold? I would recommend focusing on getting better, you won't be sick too much longer.13

Looks like some people should check the date, this thread is 7 years old.
And welcome to MFP. It's a terrible place where people care about other's health and not just their confined questions.
This cheered up my morning. We need a zombie emoji!1 -
swimmers are thin and muscular due to the fact they eat right and exercise it has nothing to do with water temperateure.
what a load of bollucks.
OP - taking a cold bath wont do anything other than make you cold.1 -

Been sick for over a week (I naturally get sick a lot and have other health conditions so I know I don't have to see a doc). Also have asthma so... going for a walk right now is out. I walked down the stairs, looked around, and thought... nope. Not happened today.
I read to hear and thought are you fecking kidding?
you are already ill and have asthma, sitting in a cold bath for any period of time is a completely stupid idea.
all thats gonna happen is you will probably get worse and maybe cause yourself an asthma attack.
I have asthma too and dont get why you would want to risk either of the above for the sake of burning barely any extra calories.
Just stop! you dont NEED to work out to lose weight, but you do need to rest and take care of yourself whilst ill and I take it you understand just how serious an asthma attack can be? so why risk it.
go to bed, eat what you can and get back to it once you are better

At least she's skinny if she's still in the bathtub!
But she's definitely got more problems than the common cold.LyssaRonnell wrote: »Doesn't the body go into fat storing mode when it's cold? I would recommend focusing on getting better, you won't be sick too much longer.
Let's hope that cold won't last more than 7 years.

I'm not sure if it would take more energy to keep your body cool in a hot one vs warm in a cold. I think a 10 minute walk to your mailbox might be better personally lol0

it's called "cold thermogenesis". someone heard about michael phelps eating 12,000 calories per day, and figured out that they all couldn't be burned just by swimming, and found that the coldness of the water made up for the 3,000 calories burned that couldn't be accounted for. a nasa scientiest, ray cronise, is one researcher. ben greenfield talks about it on his website. brown fat burns white fat. shivering can burn 100 calories an hour. here's a link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHEGO1vuQ5s13

Clutching my pearls.... cold water burns calories now....how many!0

Swimmers are thin and muscular due to the cold water drawing off the heat from their bodies and the body compensating for it.
Thank GOD my sons swim team practices in a heated pool! Those youngsters are lean enough from all of the physical activity 😂🤣 They might disappear if they were in cold water based on this1 -
Sweeeeeet.
I'm totally polar bear plunging this year... BAM! Instant summer beach body.7 -
This poor person has been sick with a cold since 2011.3

A negligible, unimportant amount. If anything, you will burn less calories that day because you sat still in a bath instead of going for even a little walk around your kitchen.1

Yes this would seem a common sense feature.
Have been on many forums eg tripadvisor - where threads get locked after, say, 12 months of no new posts.
They are sort of archived - you can still search for them and read them but not post.9 -

I know, necro thread - but the above is a good point. If one’s goal is to burn more calories, you’d get a significantly greater expenditure from walking for x minutes than you would from sitting in a cold bath (or steam room or sauna or whatever other increased/decreased temperature environment) for an equivalent period of time. Activity will always trump inactivity in terms of calorie burn.
Don’t try to major in the minors - if you’re trying to expend calories, get up and move.6 -

But that whole activity thing takes effort!!6
