    To answer the rest of your questions, IF is merely one tool (of many) in creating a calorie deficit for fat loss by restricting your eating window to a certain number of hours. It's not magic, and people can completely derail (binge) on this diet just like they can with any other diet.

    As a list of positives, it trains you to understand the physiology of actual hunger cues; it promotes discipline and controlled freedom by plotting a strategy that allows you to eat at a regimented time; outside the feeding window, you're either asleep or working so you don't need to be thinking about food all the time; eating the bulk of your calories in a smaller window of time promotes satiety especially if you focus on protein (also what contributes to a calorie deficit).

    Wow, thank you! This is a great start of information for this thread. I am new to this, but I noticed a few days that when I did do it, I had more energy, wasn't even hungry, and had more focus. I also felt that I was more in control of my life. I will share this with others. Thank you again! :)

    Thanks for finding that information for me. I am currently doing 16:8 and been having success with that. I don't think I could eat all my calories for the day in only 4 or 6 hours. There are lots of books about IF, I think I will pick one and read more about it. :)

    Which is precisely how IF works in creating a calorie deficit.

    I like my three meals per day. I'm trying to lose about 10 lbs so I am eating at a deficit. I have digestive issues so if I tried to eat that much in a smaller time frame, it wouldn't work. Everyone's different and you gotta do what works for you. :)

    You can eat 12 meals during your eating window if you really wanted too. Clearly not recommended of course. Some people like me just eat at the beginning of the window and at the end. There are a lot of people who have their largest meal when they break fast. You have to try several things until your find the one that works for you.

    I actually wouldn't look to Fung for advice. He talks a good game and makes fasting sound compelling, but he's widely known for straw-manning arguments and science. He makes outrageous claims that muscle can be built on eating no nutrients at all or that calories are only a working theory and impractical for the purposes of metabolism.

    Hmmm. I will have to check that out. I checked out your recommendation of Martin Berkhan and it seemed like he is more geared for men.

    23rd -26th I did 20:4...I actually am doing good with this for now. I lost 2 lbs. of fat...I find that I only have a very short window of hunger in the morning, especially when my husband cooks his big breakfasts. LOL!

    Week one of IF done and I lost 2.8 lbs while consistently doing 16:8 (although one day I did 18:6 without thinking about it). I only really needed to lose about 12 lbs total so I'm glad I'm well on my way!

    I’m doing the 8 hour and like they way it helps with calories goals. It’s much easier and nicer meals when I eat. I’m on second week.

    Awesome. I was thinking to going to that also. I was thinking of alternating between 16-8 and 20-4, and finding my nitch. I have been doing the 4 for about 4-5 days, I really enjoy the food when I eat. :)

    Hello, I've been doing IF for 3 weeks, I've lost 13.2 lbs and about 9 inches from neck, chest, belly. I am very happy with this eating plan. (hard to call it a diet since you're not eating) I have followed the advice of Brad Pilon and his Eat-Stop-Eat plan. He recommends 24-hour fasts to get the 70% of the physiological benefits.

    At first, I thought it would be very difficult for me since my appetite has always been my biggest challenge. On my non-fasting times, I've been following high fat low carb which has been very effective for appetite control.

    Another benefit for me has been that my blood sugar readings have dropped from the 170-180 range to the 120 - 130 range so basically 50 points and I've cut my medicine dosages pretty much in half. IN almost 2 years my doctor's recommendations haven't had much effect for me. Go figure, if I don't go back he loses a customer.

    My plan is to stick to this plan for 90 days and then go in for a blood test for my A1C levels.

    Another thing from the book that helped me was rather than calculating my daily caloric intake to do it weekly instead. For example, Normal consumption of 2000 calories/day = 14,000/week. 2 - 24-hour fasting time should cut your weekly intake by 4000 calories, or slightly more than 1 lb. weight loss.

    For me, the easiest time to start my fast is 6 PM right after dinner that lasts until dinner at 6 PM the next day. That way I don't skip any whole day without eating.

    You may enjoy looking up Arthur De Vany on youtube or checking out his book The New Evolution Diet. He is 80 years old and in fantastic shape. He follows a paleo diet (and is considered the father of Paleo) and eats only Breakfast and Dinner. He talks much of the life extension benefits of this style of eating.
