Hi everyone! I have recently started my transition to keto by cutting carbs, substituting foods and cooking at home over the last week. I haven't had any weight loss success yet but that's okay, I know it'll come when I get the hang of it all! I am having trouble counting macros. How do I accurately record it into my fitness pal? How do I know I'm doing it right! I have read a tonne on keto but none of it is clicking. I want to switch to keto so badly but am TERRIFIED of gaining weight by not doing it properly. Any words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!!!

Maria Emmerich is a Keto guru and I highly recommend using her Keto calculator as well as every book and blog post she has ever written

What specifically are you having trouble with? Logging or knowing what your goals are?

Find and verify an entry in the database for what you are eating, use a food scale whenever possible to make sure you record an accurate portion. If you are on a PC you will see a total by grams of each macro at the bottom of your diary. If you are on the app, you have to click on the wheel icon at the top of your diary to see total macros for the day.

There is a lowcarb group here, it's always linked on the right hand side of the Community homepage on the website, you should be able to get lots of help in there as well.

Regardless, no need to freak out :). As long as your calories are in line you will lose weight. If keto or LCHF is right for you you'll get the hang of it eventually.

Have you checked out this group yet? http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group

Also the only way you will gain weight on keto, or on any diet plan, is if you eat more calories than you burn.

I'm having trouble figuring out how many macros are in the food I'm eating. I think maybe because I'm not measuring? Like for example; I made egg breakfast muffins with cheese and bacon. How do I figure out how many calories and macros are in each one?

Log the egg. Weigh and log the cheese. Weigh and log the bacon. Log the muffin. Log the butter. MFP will tell you the calories and macros.

Check out the posts stickied at the top of the boards. Logging correctly is a valuable skill and it does take some practice!
