Day 23: No Jillian (No way to play DVD...)

I was planning to do Killer Body - Firm Buns & Thighs, but because of the issue with the PS4 controller I did a lower body workout from the PumpUp app on my phone.

    Day 24: Killer Cardio - Level 1

So the PS4 controller is trashed. I can get it to work for playing a DVD, but a game...not so much.

@michael1976_ca How do those programs compare for you? I've heard good things about ripped and body revolution, but I haven't tried them yet.

@shadow2soul That's seriously great progress in that amount of time! Awesome job!!

body revolution is amazing it's 3 months program. it's set up to keep you from getting bored. as far as ripped in 30 i did that right after i finished 30 day shred. as far as compared the two of them i don't remember witch one was harder. i haven't done her workouts in a year and half

"If you want to be better than you've ever been, you must do something that you've never done"

Like a lot of people, I'm on what feels like my millionth fresh start on MFP. I've had a lot of successes, failures, plateaus, and frustrations, and I know that I need to do things differently if I want to make this time my last "this time".

I know some people have mixed feelings about Jillian Michaels or her methods, and I have no desire to continue that debate here. Speaking personally, her programs have resonated with me, motivated me, and given me some of my best results compared to countless other avenues I've tried. I am starting this thread to commit to a year of her programs, and I invite anyone, whether you are doing a Jillian program or just want a place to commit to your daily workout goals, to join me.

I am currently on Day 8 of 30-Day Shred, and after completing that I am planning to start The Gauntlet, the year long program on her app. I am committing to post in this thread every day, stay on track with my workout schedule and nutrition, and hopefully crush my goals as the year progresses. Good luck to anyone who wants to join in, and let's make 2018 our last fresh start!

How do you like level 2? My mom and I started level 2 but stop after 3 day of it and when back to level 1 because I didn't feel like I was putting enough work and my knees were in pain.

I love you guys, I thought I was the only Jillian fan (people seem to not like her) I love her probably more than I should. I have done her Shred-it with weights in the past. I am currently doing her yoga Meltdown which I will follow up with her yoga Inferno. Die Hard Jilly fans feel free to add me.

I have been doing beginner 30 day Shred. I think her Biggest Loser personality was more of an act. In her actual videos I feel she us very encouraging and not loud obnoxious and mean.

Very true she is very inspirational. I can do her DVD's and listen to her repeat the same things over everyday 100 times and yet I always hear a message of encouragement that I need to hear on that particular day.

I'm also a Jillian fan! I had a baby 2 months ago, so I'm planning to start her post-partum DVD before going back to 30 day Shred. How often do you work out? Which workouts do you do? What eating plan do you follow?

You're wise for starting slowly back to Jillian. I believe she made that dvd after her wife had given birth. I'm not sure with her postpartum dvd but most of her DVD's I believe are done 5-6 days a week. Most people get into their own groove of Jillian, some only do her DVD's and some people mix her with other exercises. Eating plans I'm not sure because I eat regular food and do my best to stay under.

I am not sure exactly what it is about her personality but I always push so much harder with her workouts compared to other DVD's I've used.

I don't mind it, but I definitely do it to my own ability level. I have some wrist and shoulder issues, so I struggle a little with walkout pushups and things like that, but I definitely see improvement over time. I know a lot of people who do Shred their own way though, either by modifying moves or mixing in other workouts out of boredom (I'm definitely in the latter camp!) I also can't do the workouts every single day because of my work schedule, but I find that adding in off-days here and there helps with my recovery. So it's more like a 40-45 Day Shred, but it works for me

@PheePhee76 That's awesome! Hope you like Body Revolution! I'm starting to consider trying it out because I keep hearing really good things!

@BritneyBakesBest I loved Yoga Meltdown. I really like her approach to the moves, and how she uses fundamentals, but puts her own spin on it. I'm hoping the Yoga part of the Gauntlet is along those lines. I'm still working my way through her app-based programs.

I'm at a bit of a stand still with my Jillian workouts. This morning my 3 yr old accidentally poured his water directly on to my PS4 controller. The PS4 is the only way I have to play the DVD's. It's a bummer. I am still going to workout in the meantime and hoping I don't have to go buy a new controller this weekend (it was drenched so it's a high possibility).

I dealt with a similar issue with the app yesterday. For some reason my phone freaked out and it kept crashing. I ended up having to reboot a few times, re-install the update, etc. It was super frustrating being READY to work out, and dealing with a bunch of technical issues. Hope you were able to get the controller fixed/replaced!

I love Jillian's workots as well, they work great burning the extra fat. I am currently recovering from surgery and as soon as I can I'll get back to it.
I encourage you to give them a try and adjust the workouts to your own schedule.
@may3161 I struggle with level 2 also, my knees were in pain but I did it anyway...it gets better after while

I love Jillian! One of the best workouts for me. My back roll decreased considerably by level 2! Im not doing it everyday tho, it’s too much for me. I do two consecutive days and then rest day and so on. Im doing 30 day shref, currently on day 8. Any suggestions after i finish this workout? I was thinking of ripped in 30... any thoughts?

I finished 30 Day last month and wanted to move on to Ripped, but decided I wanted to give myself more time and did 5 days of Beginner Shred...now I’m on Shed and Shred. I realized I could do more each day than a 20-30 min workout. S&S is a bit longer. So far so good, currently on Day 6.

Why do people not like Jillian? She is badass!

Loud, obnoxious and "in-your-face". It's not what I'm looking for in an instructors. She doesn't inspire or motivate me, but she works for others. As someone posted upthread, there are quite a few better instructors than Jillian out there.

Why would you comment? Freedom of speech. I get it but it's beneficial to focus on what and who you like instead. Positivity makes you smile brighter

Because someone in this thread asked the question - "why do people not like Jillian." There are people who love her, and people who hate her. That's fine. You do whatever works for you.

I too commented on this question. I did included the "positive" comment that there are quite a few talented instructors out there. Many choices, not just the people you see on reality TV shows. We all need something to inspire us, but we don't all need the exact same thing.

Was super happy to see my new workout leggings arrived. Better yet is that they fit right now (no squeezing or stretching to Max potential of material...they jus fit). I ordered them from an Asian retailer and thought, because of my slight regain they would make a good goal to fit into.

I love Extreme S&S, it my current routine.
Cute leggings! 100% lyrca? Good material? Looks like they fit well. Did you order your normal size? I’m in the market for new leggings.

@Andiknapp I probably sound like a broken record, but definitely check out her app. There are a lot of different options, including a 90 day program that is similar to 30 day shred in terms of moves. Also, a lot of people seem to like Ripped in 30, and I get the impression that's a pretty natural progression from 30DS. Good luck!

@myfitpal13 I haven't checked out Shed & Shred, but I'll definitely keep it in mind. Great job on your progress!

@shadow2soul Love the Harley leggings!! They look awesome!

I believe they are just spandex and polyester. I'm not thrilled with the stitching, but I did my Jillian workout in them (washed them first thing this morning) and they did hold up pretty well. I will say they were a huge gamble. I bought them from Wish and only paid about $8. They are super comfy and seem to breathe well. I'm just concerned with how the stitching was done that it might not hold up.

I am going to see how these hold up. They seem a little thin. If they hold up, there was a few other ones I wanted to try.

Interesting enough these are in my normal size range.
When I was looking at the size chart (which was in cm) my measurements actually fell into both medium (low end) and small (high end). I ordered medium, because people said they run super small. It seems like they run true to their size chart.

Ended up having to go out of town unexpectedly through the weekend, in a situation where I had no way to get my Jillian workouts in. I decided to walk 30DS back to Day 15 just to finish stronger and build more consistency before moving on. So...

I used 10 lb dumbbells today for almost all the exercises that required weight. The triangle pose was the only one I had to back down to a 5 for.
