Diet/calorie wise salad dressings. They generally have only 10 calories less than their full versions. Such a waste of flavour for nearly no gain.8

My 3 am -cant sleep-breakfast: 800 calories to club crackers, Asiago cheese, and gooseberry jam. Ugh! And it was so good.7

Dairy Queen Blizzards. The last time I got one, I remember ordering a small French Silk Pie one thinking, “It’s not that big — this probably 300-400 calories”. Nope. More like 800. I haven’t had a blizzard since, and that was almost 5 years ago.10

I buy the minis if I really want one3 -
Naan, Bought some because it was 190 cal per serving then when I read the fine print realized that was for 1/2 of a piece! Yikes.9

Okay, I want to make it clear that I knew this was a ridiculous indulgence before I ate it. My son's junior class is fundraising for their senior trip next year and they had a night at Raising Cane's. Any of you who have been to Cane's know it is deep fried chicken deliciousness. But even I was shocked when I tracked it later. I got the info straight from the Cane's website because none of the entries on MFP were for this meal, except one I knew had to be wrong. For those who aren't used to the desktop interface, the far left column is the calories. The one over 3000 to the right is the SODIUM. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!

Not much shocks me nowadays, all the food I usually eat, I know approximately how many calories they have. But, I tried to eat a whole baguette today for dinner, well, I weighed it out and realised it was over 600 calories for just the bread, without any of the fillings. So disappointing. To be fair, half of it filled me up, alongside some salad, but I was just being greedy lol.

And this is exactly why everyone always suggests to get one to people who arent using it but claiming they are eating 1200 calories. They usually find out that they are eating double or even more than they think!
it really makes me sad how small portions really are supposed to be.. and it confuses me of how people can stay so small and eat so much and not weigh anything. it makes me wonder what's wrong with me.
Thats a trap, The reality is you dont see them starving themselves at home, you see them having that one 1000 calorie meal in front of you. You also might not see them on their 3 hour bike ride to earn that meal either! Dont be so hard on yourself, there is nothing wrong but with how you were taught to eat. The same problem that I had/have.
I have a naturally slim sister. She's always been very small and yet she's always eating fried food, has takeouts almost daily, and has chocolate, crisps daily, can eat a packet of biscuits in one sitting. She does have three little girls, so perhaps running around after them keeps her fit, but even when we were young, she would eat far more than me and yet I was the chubby one. Some people are just lucky I think.20 -
Posted this elsewhere, but I was shopping for breakfast sausages last night at Costco. Picked up the first pack and what looked like normal sized sausages were 330 cals each. I put the package back down. Went to the freezer section and found one that were 160 cals. But looking closer that was for 1/3 of a sausage. Seriously, who would cook and eat 1/3 of a frikken frozen sausage.
The ones I bought were turkey and 60 cals each, but they are about the size of my thumb. 3 and a piece of toast was breakfast.12 -
Pate! 42 CALORIES PER TABLESPOON!!!!!!0

Sushi surprises me every single time. I should know by now but traditional rolls always have so many cals and carbs in them... the tempura special rolls... don't even get me started on those haha.
This ALWAYS kills me - maki, nigiri...I don't even touch the tempura. Makes me so sad!! haha0 -

OMG I ate lunch out with coworkers and got a California Omelette thinking it was a good choice. 916 CALORIES, are you kidding me for a omelette.
They often put pancake batter in omelettes and scrambled eggs. Totally messed up. Now I only order them sunny side up.
Sushi, it's because they sweeten the rice a bit too... so even the plain stuff will be a calorie bomb.
For me, still desserts, you KNOW it's bad, but it's not uncommon for me to calculate the calories for 1/8 of a dessert and end up with 600 calories a serving. In my mind, a slice of pie was always 350ish, so it was a bit of a shock (and the recipe said 350 calories a serving too... NOPE).
The biggest shock for me was still bagels. I got some from a local shop and when I weighed them and used a usda entry... 440 calories in a plain bagel. I could have 2 donuts for those calories, and that doesn't even include the cream cheese!7 -
I went to have some baked beans with my dinner last night, for the first time since I have started logging my foods and was shocked at how many calories are in a tin of baked beans! 352 for the can. There would have been many days I would have had a can of beans, a jacket potato with butter and beans for my lunch. It would have filled me up but that was easily 700 calories for lunch...!2

It's actually not that bad for baked beans, usually they add a ton of sugar and whatnot. This seems to be close to the normal calories of beans. I'd never be able to eat a whole can of them though - that's a LOT of ans. Are cans smaller in the UK?
For me, yesterday I bought a bag of frozen creamed spinach. It's usually around 240 calories for a bag, and I can make it fit pretty easily. Well, when I saw the nutrition information (after buying it, of course, it was a different brand)... 160 calories for a 1/2 cup serving. About 400 calories for the whole bag. I had a bite and put it away, it wasn't even worth it and tasted like pure butter.4 -
Mayonnaise.
PIZZA!!!! (Ah, too bad!)2 -
I put a plop of potato salad on my plate (probably less than 1/4 cup) and weighed it, put it in my log, and it clocked in at like 300 calories!!!! I put some back, but that 5 bites was still 200.3

Puff pastry!!! Jesus!!! - made a spinach & leek pie - thought it would be nice & light - nope it was 600 calories a slice!6

most surprising when I started was salad dressings also. Before mfp, I was eating mostly chicken, veggies & rice. when I started & logged the rice, I was so surprised! now I eat it once in a while0

Costco has delicious potato salad, but it is 8 billion calories per tablespoon.15 -

When I first tried calorie counting, I would look up my typical order at a fast food place and be shocked at that being 1500+ calorie meals even with a diet coke and then say ok, I'll just have a salad, and even more surprised to find that was almost 1000 calories, too. I am glad that more places now have nutritional information available, but I do wish that more places would just show it on the menu, so we don't have to look it up online and plan ahead.
I also wish more places would have interactive nutrition online, so you could say "no croutons" or substitute a different dressing, and see the new nutrition info.
I used to laugh at the ladies who would order a salad at the restaurant, saying they were trying to "be healthy" but then ask for "extra dressing" and not a low-fat dressing either, usually ranch, so that's like 2 x 2 oz container x 140 = 560 calories, just for the dressing. I really think they had no idea how much they were self-sabotaging.

Also straight alcohol. I drank vodka, water, and lime for the longest time until I realized 1 oz of vodka has about 65 calories!!2 -
