Just ate 500 cals of chocolate and candy

I've been consistently losing, logging and making great progress, but this afternoon I gobbled up a bag of Swedish berries and 3 turtle chocolate squares. The total calories eaten are approximately 500, so not to painful on my daily calorie intake.
I'm curious as to what caused this strange urge/binge. My diary is open, I am generally eating well, and had a hearty breakfast (high in protein and fats) not 2 hours ago.

You want complete strangers to tell you the reason that you yourself decided to eat some chocolate? What possible insight could I honestly have? Person most informed about that is you.40

make note of the situation. mad habits usually triggered my situation. for example on my long commute home, i had the habit of stopping for a snack of junk and/or fast food to break.4

Indefinite High deficits eventually break. You may want to visit the refeed and diet break thread. Re examine the size of your deficits. Start thinking more about maintenance. And start laying the groundwork for the slower road ahead.
The less fat you have available to lose the slower the loss and the more lean mass gets lost together with it...10 -
In my experience, the answer is "because it's there"
My hubby regular brings home grocery bags full of marked down holiday candy (his calorie allowance is twice as high as mine). Some days I can ignore it, some days I can't. Obviously, my first choice would be for it not to be in my house.19 -

I recently decreased my deficit, upped my daily intake by approximately 500 cals. But I may have to read up on refeeds, because my loss has been quite rapid. Thanks for the advice.5 -

No idea why you did, but I suspect it's just that you wanted something sweet and chocolatey.
I have over 25 pounds of chocolate in my house most of the time.
I add 100 cals of it to my daily intake. Every day without fail.
It helps reduce the cravings.9 -

It may be something to study curiously for a while. A smarty-pants once said "If we craved what we needed, we would crave vegetables and fruits."7 -
Consider a sudden psychological need. Having a bad day at the office? Or bored? If you want to manage your blood sugar, try keeping trail mix or nuts handy at work. If blood sugar isn't an issue, and if you don't do it often, why worry?7

There's no automatic guilt reflex with a particular food. I had to train myself before I could live with that because from all our trustworthy and untrustworthy sources comes information that demonizes food and choices. I'm always in control and if I am then I need absolutely zero reason or justification for having a food I decide to have in the moment. But that context needs to always be that I am in control.

Sometimes you just have cravings for something. A couple of weeks ago, it was pizza for me, and definitely more than 500 calories worth
I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it starts becoming a regular habit.5 -

I was having a miserable day today, so I totally went to McDonald's for supper, and then Tim Hortons for an iced Capp and timbits later, now I feel horrible, but tomorrow is a new day I plan to get back on track8

As long as it fits in your calories don't worry about it. Yeah, it wasn't the best thing to eat but oh well.
I have jellybeans from Valentine's Day I plan to eat at some point, lol1 -

I literally did that two days ago, after a snack, after a multi hour workout (except, make "500 calories" 1 riesen...4 riesen...6 riesen....the entire bag).
Lesson: never go into a store hungry.5 -
OP I do the same thing sometimes. It just seems to happen. Frustrating, when most of the time I can just say “no thanks” and go about my day without eating that unplanned food.2

Nope. This all or nothing thinking is more toxic than helpful.
OP- this is a lifestyle, manage the rest of the day the best you can and start fresh tomorrow. You’re not out of control, you’re human.9 -
I think sometimes it can be anything or nothing. If I am tired I tend to find it harder to avoid sugary things during the day. Personally I like chocolate and evenings are when I struggle so I save calories for the evening and have some chocolate. Most of the time in the day I can avoid it but ocassionally my willpower weakens and I just have it. If you managed to fit it in to your calories then no harm done really.
Do you allow yourself the odd sweet treat? Maybe working something in on a regular basis, would stop a 500 cal splurge?1
