My digital scale only has 1/2# increments, and I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale. Comments reflect prior day.

The key to weight loss is to never feel like you’re on a diet, because diets don’t work. If you feel deprived, you will never make it past a few weeks. The only way to achieve long-term weight loss is to learn to appreciate food as fuel and slowly replace processed food that cannot properly energize the body with real food that can. After a while this will become second nature and won’t feel like a daily struggle. — Laura Burak, MS, RD, CDN6 -

Round 32
Starting Weight ~107 lbs
Goal: lose half a pound each Round to reach 105 lbs by April 1st.
Date/Weight/Comment
2/18 108.1 lbs (slowly climbing past 10 days with Calories ~ 1700 per day). When I restrict successfully down to 1500 Calories I lose too fast and am too hungry. Going to test out 1600 over these 10 days and see where I land (with normal exercise).
2/19 107 lbs: 1636 Calories yesterday
2/20 107.4 lbs: 1700 Calories - very active day, but still wish I could have held it together @ 1600.
2/21 107 lbs: 1865 Calories - sneaky food at work.
2/22 107.4 lbs: 1854 Calories - over wine budget!
2/23 107.3 lbs: <1500 Calories! - under wine budget
2/24 106.7 lbs 1500 Calories! - yes it works
2/25 106.7 lbs Over the 1500 but net was 1400 (lots of exercise yesterday). One more day
2/26 106.6 lbs Over the 1500 and very little movement (over 1800 Calories) still very close to the initial goal. I feel better now.8 -

2-17 - drive drive drive
We left yesterday after the movers were finished and we had finished cleaning. I stuck to my calorie goal (partly bec. of no breakfast!) Drove from Eugene, OR, to Ashland, OR. Lovely drive, even if we were tired. Stopped early, and I ate a nice, healthful dinner.
2-18 more driving
Ashland to Stockton, CA, yesterday, and on to Barstow, CA, today. Beautiful drive through the Central Valley - almond trees in glorious bloom (and nothing smells sweeter- like honey in the air!). I ate mindfully and within limits, and had no evening snacks bec. my dog was barfy on the trip so no little shares of my stuff, and I didn't want to eat in front of her. For some reason I've been unable to sign into community with my iPad, so missed yesterday. Maybe TMI?
2-19 travel, but no driving today (except to WalMart, laundromat, & to eat!)
We spent the day in Barstow because of high winds to the east and bad (snowy) roads through the mountains by Flagstaff. Hoping for good travel conditions tomorrow. Eating what I want but staying within my goals pretty much. It's motivating to check in with all you good eaters out there!
2-20 more driving
Seriously beautiful day for a drive through the desert from Barstow, CA, to Phoenix, AZ. Looking forward to tomorrow, Tucson and east into New Mexico and north to Albuquerque. Had dinner with a fb friend I'd never met in person before - the magic of social media! Stayed within calories for the day, even with one Reese's peanutbutter cup. ;-)
2-21 driving again
Stuck to my calories. Macros not so much, and Chinese last night so I'm feeling puffy. Otherwise, great drive! Phoenix through Tucson to Las Cruces today, then north to Albuquerque and Amarillo tomorrow.
2-22 guess what we're doing today?
Still in NM - it's a big state! Hoping to get to Tulsa tomorrow, but may stop sooner. I had Mexican food tonight in a cute little cafe, but still stayed within calorie bounds. I'm hopeful about maintaining - will find out next week!
2-23 still driving?
Yep. Still driving! Learned today that our stuff still hasn't been loaded onto the long haul truck, so won't catch up with us for at least a week. So we're definitely not in a hurry now. Oh well. I ate well today, but within bounds. All good.
2-24 maybe we've arrived? Nope!
We started late to let the storms pass by, so didn't drive as far as planned, but that's ok. We plan to be at our destination by noon Monday, which is just fine. I had a solid breakfast but splurgey lunch (Chili's marghuerita flatbread), but total cals still fine, and average over the week, too. All good.
2-25 still driving!
Forgot to check in. :-)
2-26 home today!
As I write, were four hours from home. Yay! I hope to get a new scale today to see how much damage I did on the trip. Whatever, it was worth it. Ready to restart with the next round.

02/18
02/19 - 174.6
02/20 - 172.6 Nice to see the drop. I'm really trying to get my water in. I was only able to do 50 oz.
02/21 - 172.4 .2 lbs but I'll take it. Anything on the downward slope. I really have to stay diligent.
02/22 – 171.8 Slow and steady wins the race. I'm really focusing on water this week.
02/23 - 170.8 My goal is to end this round under 170. If I stay focused, I can do it. Tonight hubby and I are going out to dinner. I'll scope out the menu ahead of time and have my choices pre-selected in my head. I'll also have an apple or something before I go so I'm not starving. Just trying to think of different strategies to get over the humps
02/24 – 171.2 Well the best laid plans….I did know what I was having for dinner – fish. I just didn't factor in the wine a friend brought and the calamari appetizer my husband ordered. Hope to see a downward trend tomorrow. Still hope to be under 170 by the end of this round.
02/25 – forgot to weigh in the morning. Remembered after breakfast.
02/26 - 171.4 Oh well…I guess I'm not gonna see 169 this round.
Let's try again. Come on R33!

I’ve lost 10.8 lbs so far in 3 full challenges plus 3 days (started late on the first). I’m getting into better habits. I’m learning to “stop the bleeding” when I have a moment of “weakness” (I need to come up with another name for this… moments are normal). I’m loving this group, and I'm loving all of you just for being here. Without saying a word, you are a HUGE source of support for me.

Day/Weight/Comment
02/17 = 208.6 (-0.6). Let the good times roll. Even when I have a “bad” day, I’m always at maintenance or under (215 over calorie goal last night). And the bad days are becoming few and far between. Being accountable every day seems to be the ingredient that has been missing for all these years. I’ve logged for long periods of time in the past, but this opportunity to “journal” has been lifechanging. Had a glass of wine and a small dessert last night, but felt in-control the whole time. Going to the gym today to lift weights and do some HIIT. Light lunch, and then dinner and a movie with my wife and a couple of friends. Going to try to make healthy choices (or at least portion control) tonight at dinner. I'll see where I'm at with calories and decide beforehand if I want a drink.
02/18 = 209.2 (+0.6). Lifted weights yesterday, but HIIT didn’t happen (Got a little lazy. I miss basketball!). Ate light for breakfast, but had a surprise poke bowl from my wife for lunch. Had plans for dinner and a movie with my wife and two of her friends, but apparently there was some miscommunication regarding the movie, so it ended up just being dinner. I ate pretty light, but the food was decadent, and I had a drink. I’m having dinner tonight at my parents, which will likely include at least a drink or two. I’ll be happy to escape this weekend at my starting weight. This really is a constant challenge, but it’s getting so much easier to make good choices (and stop my bad choices from going too far and completely derailing me). This feels like it’s working, even if my weight does not go down every single day.
02/19 = 207.4 (-1.8). I think this number is a little exaggerated because I slept in 2.5 hours longer than ususal, but I’m mostly just really happy. Ate super light for breakfast and lunch. Had a standing rib roast with twice-baked potatoes and two margaritas for dinner at my parents' place. Plus it was my brother’s (my mom’s dog) birthday, so also a cupcake and a scoop of ice cream. I’m pretty sure I overestimated everything calorie-wise, because I really try to err that way if I’m not sure what I’m taking in. If I weren’t calorie-counting I would have eaten 2-3 times as much as I did. Of course, I didn’t, and I was completely satisfied.
02/20 = 208.6 (+1.2). I didn't really believe my weigh-in yesterday, so I'm okay with this number (I am also -0.6 for the long weekend, which is fantastic!). I have a new nephew, but I managed to stay in control when we went out to eat with my in-laws. Went over with salt on the day (I think), but drank plenty of water. I'm going to the gym tonight with my wife to lift weights, and I WILL get my HIIT workout in. Two more days until basketball starts up again. I can't wait!!!
02/21 = 208.4 (-0.2). Yesterday was fine eating-wise, but I felt like I was getting sick last night (didn't go to the gym). I'm in bed now, sick. I know I'm supposed to drink lots of fluids, but I don't want anything. Basketball is tomorrow night. I really want to feel better. I HATE missing basketball.
02/22 = 209.4 (+1.0). I didn't want to post this number. This week is a reminder that things can go sideways for a million different reasons. I think yesterday's sickness was a little bit of a false alarm; it definitely was NOT the flu. I'm back at work today (mostly because I couldn't justify playing basketball if I didn't go to work). I really do feel better, though, even if I have some congestion. The "sideways" - wife brought me a sandwich last night, and I ate mindlessly (I also fear it was a salt bomb). I would have been fine with half a sandwich, but I ate all of it, plus half of my wife's. This is a pattern that has plagued me through our 14.5 year relationship. She didn't offer it to me this time (which is good), but I asked her for it, and she let me have it. Rather than beat myself up about it, however, I'm going to treat it as the reminder it is. This week is so far is a wash (very little exercise, but staying at or below maintenance calorie-wise so far), but I have 4 days left in this challenge, including 2 days of basketball (which always includes a full body weight workout at the gym). I'm going to finish this off strong, no matter what my weight says at the end.
02/23 = 208.4 (-1.0). Expected drop after a basketball day. I’m bouncing around a lot this challenge. Dinner last night was some beautiful salty concoction from my in-laws; I went a little heavy on the tortillas (2) and rice (probably shouldn’t have had both). Basketball was definitely a good idea; I’m feeling much better today. I’m definitely on the mend from my brief illness. Three more days in the challenge, but the weekend is almost upon me, so I’m going to try my best to keep myself focused and mindful. I still want to finish strong (effort, not necessarily results)!
02/24 = 209.0 (+0.6). I’m just riding this out, trying not to get upset that my weight is like a damn pogo stick this whole challenge. Had a surprise lunch out yesterday (poke, relatively healthy, but hard to gauge calorie-wise), and a planned dinner out (ate a bit more than I probably should have, and finished at 100 calories over maintenance). I weighed myself this morning, but I’m writing this late, so I’ve already gone to the gym to life weights, and I played basketball for 90 minutes or so. Besides getting hit hard in the face twice, I had a good day at basketball. All the games were close, I had to match up with a REALLY physical player, and my shot was “on.” Breakfast and lunch were totally under control, so I’ll just try to be really mindful tonight at dinner. An aside – I’m realizing that I probably don’t eat enough fruits or vegetables. My diet consists only of nutrient-dense foods (no crap, sugary foods, or empty-calorie snack foods), but I can still probably improve the quality of my diet by incorporating more fruits and vegetables. I’m going bowling later tonight after dinner out with my wife’s family. I feel like I’m all over the place today. Can you tell? But guess what! I’m feeling really good about myself right now. I haven’t reached all my goals, but I can see and feel my progress. One of my friends at basketball noticed that I’m looking better too!
02/25 = 210.6 (+1.6). I thought I did well yesterday, but there’s this number. I’m a bit flummoxed (first time ever using that word). When I just spoke with my wife about how things have been going with my weight, she was quick to remind me that I have been eating out a lot more than usual recently. I’m just gonna sit with this for a minute.
02/26 = 209.6 (-1.0). I’m +0.4 for the challenge. This was sobering. I’m going to spend some time reflecting on it today, but what I have so far: eating out too much (even if I tried to stay healthy and/or moderate when I did), not as much exercise as usual (basketball cancelled on 3 days where I normally would have played), and got sick for a couple of days. Should that have been enough to throw me off? Maybe. On to the next challenge!
Edit: I just calculated my average weight for this round, and it was -2.4 vs. last round. A small victory?4 -

02/26 – 197.1, Medically fasting, but how do I keep it off when I starting eating at noon...[/quote]
Wow! 5 pounds is a big loss, even with medically fasting... I would not worry if you cannot keep it... it will come.

02/21- 207.4 lots of exercise. Ate better.
02/22- 207.4 really disappointed. Worked out and ate pretty well.

02/24- 206.2 good day
02/25- 208.8 omg I could cry. Completely derailed with pizza and cookies. Doesn’t look like I’m going to make my goal.
02/26- 209.8 I’m realizing I can’t make good decisions when it comes to food when I go to friends houses and we order takeout:(
I’m really upset and disappointed with myself, but determined to be better this week!6 -

02/17 - 184.8 - See that would have been nice yesterday.
02/18 - 186 - I guess I just live here now.
02/19 - 185 - It's weird how fast 186 felt incredibly bloated instead of just fine.
02/20 - 184.8 - Still feeling kind of bloated but a lot better today. Tomorrow I think we'll be retesting body fat percentage.
02/21 - 184.4 - Not a new low but still in the right direction. Training later this morning.
02/22 - 184.4 - Holding, didn't do our retest yesterday. But had a more intense workout.
02/23 - 185.4 - Did better on my macros the last couple days, probably a little too much salt though.
02/24 - 185 - Still so cold!
02/25 - 185 - Hanging around here.
02/26 - 184.6 - Not so bad after the weekend I guess9 -

2/20 - 152.2 - another good day. Nice and low carbs but still a little high overall on calories. I'm going to modify a bit and try to cut back on calories. Slow but sure wins the race!
2/21 - 153.0 - water weight? At least my pants are fitting a little better!!! Yesterday was a good day! Even did some weight lifting!
2/22 - 152.6 - on it's way down again (I hope!!)
2/23 - 153 - but that's ok. I can still button up my skinny jeans and I'm making long lasting habits. I'm hoping for a whoosh one day (soon I hope!!)

2/17 :: 176.1 - What a wonderful number to see this morning!!
2/18 :: 176.1 - Nice to see this number again, but I know I didn’t eat the best yesterday.. too much sodium, not enough water.. I expect a little bounce in the next couple days, unfortunately
2/19 :: 177.5 - Yep! Okay, back to the schedule and more water!!
2/20 :: 178.1 - Did not sleep well at all last night and in the past this caused my body to hold onto weight… here’s hoping I get better sleep tonight and this number improves tomorrow
2/21 :: 178.8 - Oh we are going the wrong way!!!! I can’t blame anyone else but myself though… super tired yesterday led to horrible food choices last night… will try to be better.
2/22 :: 178.0 - Okay, that’s a little better. Still almost 2 pounds higher than the weekend which is weird, but at least we’re headed back down.
2/23 :: 176.5 - Nice way to start the weekend
2/24 :: 176.8 - Little bump up to be expected, hubby had the day off yesterday so we went out to lunch but I think I managed to minimize my splurging.
2/25 :: 176.8 - Nice to see this number again today! Went to Olive Garden yesterday to celebrate Mom’s birthday. Ate more salad so I wouldn’t stuff myself with my main course and it worked! Have left-overs that will last for a few days which will be nice

Goal: Release 2 lbs per round to reach onederland by Memorial Day weekend.
Ultimate Goal: 175 lbs, reevaluate at that point
February
17: 219.6 Not concerned about the increase. Way to much sodium yesterday. Corned beef is SOOO good though. I'm heading out for a 60 minute walk now and will focus on reaching my 100oz water goal today.
18: 219.7 Water, calories, macros, sodium, exercise were all on point yesterday. Count down to TOM includes little gains daily. Then, as long as I stay motivated and on track through a few days of cravings and actual increased hunger, there'll be a nice drop, releasing the little gains plus some.
19: 218.8... That's a pleasant surprise. No TOM yet. Managed a 15 calorie deficit, even having pizza for supper. 108oz of water. No exercise. I don't have high BP, but it does get checked everyday. I'm noticing that it's lowering as I consistently meet my 100oz water goal.
20: 218.9... Yesterday was a REALLY good day! 100+oz of water. 2 hour walk. 180 calories deficit before considering exercise. With exercise, I had well over 1,000 calorie deficit. Macros were on point. Sodium was slightly over, but not by much. I'm thinking my water intake counteracts that, at least somewhat. Got on my yoga mat too, which felt great, and I felt strong the rest of the day. However, in the afternoon I ended up tweaking my knee. I may have to skip my walk today. We're going skiing on Thursday with my kids' school, so I'm hoping it'll be recovered by then. Knees can be slow though, so I'm not banking on being able to participate. We'll see.
21: 217.9... No exercise yesterday. Food and water were good. We were out of town late yesterday afternonn for an appointment and needed to dine out. The kids wanted fast food, but I let them know that Subway would be the only option because I want to eat healthy. I walked in having already logged what I planned to order. I was soooo close to changing my mind when I saw their pulled pork special, but I reminded myself how good I've been doing. Ended with about an 80 calorie deficit.
22: 217.4... Moderate exercise yesterday. First day of TOM. I did make it out to ski today, and my knee is feeling ok so far. Less than a pound to reach my round goal!
23: 218.4... Between TOM symptoms and my attempts at skiing yesterday a I'm not surprised by the increase. Need to wear my CamelBak next time, so I can stay more hydrated though the day instead of catching up on water intake afterwards. I'm really proud of myself for sticking to my food plan. There have been a lot of days where cheating would have been a much easier choice, and I'm feeling stronger each time I choose my health. Today is my birthday, and I haven't been tempted at all. We might go out to eat, but I'm not feeling the urge to throw my hard work away with one overindulgent meal. I intend to enjoy the meal and stick to my plan.
24: 219.2...I thought I did really well yesterday, and I guess I did considering it was my birthday. No exercise, and I stayed within calories. Even my carbs and sodium were pretty good. Drank plenty of water. My Halo Top Birthday Cake ice cream was eaten a bit too late in the evening, so maybe that contributed to the increase. Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.
25: 217.9... No exercise yesterday, but everything else was good.
26: 215.8! Goodbye TOM. Hello to surpassing my round goal by nearly a pound!10 -

Round 32 Goal = work slowly toward new goal weight 127.0
2/17 - 130.0 - starting with a drop back to current low weight. Yesterday under calories, modest walk / stress-bust run.
2/18 - 129.8 - first sight of the under-130's, but likely to be temporary over calories yesterday, knee hurting, did not work out.
2/19 - 129.8 - okay lol. Under calories yesterday, did some resistance training at the gym which I literally hate, and still got my steps in. Struggling to get into some kind of weight training as it's the cure for skinny-fat.
2/20 - 130.0 - Yesterday under calories, 7.4 mile long run. I love running.
2/21 - 129.8 - Yesterday just over calories but well under maint, short rowing session, planned rest day due to other commitments.
REALLY PLEASED to see the weight still lurking around my original goal 130, have not seen this in years, I think the curse of hitting 132, giving up, and starting to gain is FINALLY BROKEN. We will see! Even announcing that scared me a little
2/22 - 130.2 - over calories no workout ... have to admit work ate me alive yesterday! Today... dental work
2/23 - 129.0 - over calories no workout - new crown installed, my cracked molar should stop hurting when I breathe cold air on a run! And likely dehydrated.
2/24 - 129.6 - under calories, ran to gym and did 35 min elliptical last night. Me on an elliptical ... no gentle stroll while blotting beads of moisture from my brow, believe me. I beat the cybex arctrainer into submission
2/25 - 131.2 and richly deserved ugh. The only running I did was running around after treats. Still making cookies and eating only 4 ... not my worst day. Could not get motivated to work out. DID NOT EVEN POST HERE SORRY LOVES.
2/26 - 131.0 headache all day yesterday. Over on cals, only a short < 1 mile run to try to bust the pain. Reminding myself that my average DID go down this cycle, that there are days I just don't stick with it, that getting up again is the skill I need for a lifetime.
