Less Alcohol - March 2018- One day at a Time

@erikNJ - you continue to inspire me. This whole group inspires me. Thanks again, @JulieAL1969 for keeping this going. I'm the person clicking "Inspiring" on all your posts, LOL!
My plan for March, like Feb., is to continue to be moderate -- I'll be AF Mon-Thurs and limit my weekend drinking to 14 "units." For me, that means 7, 6 oz. glasses of wine. I stumbled twice during Feb. (Super Bowl, for one), so really want to clean this up and stay true to my goals. I will say this -- if I'm only having 7 glasses of wine per week it's going to be some excellent wine. None of that Barefoot chardonnay crap for me (my apologies to anyone who likes it!). Even with better wine, I'm amazed at the money I'm saving from so much less drinking.
Aww, thank you. And the same goes for you! All of the motivating people in this group are fantastic!5 -
I am in for March

I'm in for sure. My birthday is March 1st and I plan on having my first alcohol free birthday in many many moons so sad lol. So might as well turn March into dry season.9

E anche io sono “in”. At least I think that’s how to say I’m in in Italian. No telling what kind of trouble I’ll get myself into attempting to speak a bit of the language. But I do know how to say “Vorrei un’acqua minerale,” so that will prevent some potential problems.4

Hi! I'm Italian! E anch'io ci sono! Italian is a very difficult language. Vorrei un'acqua minerale is perfectly correct. But then they will probably ask you if you want it "gasata/frizzante" (sparkling) or "liscia/naturale" (still). If you go to a cafe, just remember that a "latte" in Italy means "plain milk"4 -

Good morning TEAM LESS ALCOHOL!
Just a quick peak over here before I actually leave the Feb. less alcohol thread. Looks like we have some new comers and many of the same people from Jan & Feb..
It's all about accountability with like minded souls. That is what keeps us on our path, even if there are a few bumps along that path to get there.
See you tomorrow bright and early.

What have people’s experiences been with redefining friendships? I find friends are disappointed I am not drinking if/when we go out. This is difficult because I am a “people pleaser” - but it’s time to be my more authentic self - or what I am working to become. Thoughts?4

Yes, im learning i cant please everyone. The most important one is myself bcoz i have to live with the consequences. Drinking is one of them.i am scared to drink if i dont trust the people im drinking with or pouring them. People take an advanrage of u when u are less aware of yourself.
I understand where u r coming from bcoz people want to relax and have fun. I don't get asked anywhere much bcoz im not eating and drinking what they do. I try to introduced mocktails but they don't give the same buzz so theyre knocked back.
If u come across any ideas is b interested. I guess find new friends that dont drink.. is the other option.3 -
Hi Team! I found this inspiring this morning. She's the one from the Sober School website.

In for another month!8
-
Hi, I'm in. I think alcohol dissolves my resolve to lose weight so I would definitely like to cut back.
Plan to track all drinks, and only consider having a glass of wine if I've earned at least double the calories that day to account for it. IE if a glass of wine is a 120 calories, I need to have used my regular calories for nutritional food and earned at least 240 calories through exercise. I guess this means I'll be drinking a lot less, or exercising like crazy.7 -
I lurked last month....Great group! I'm in8
-
I'm in again! Two months ago I was drinking 3-5 times a week. I forgot what it felt like to be not poisoned by alcohol constantly. Now I've cut down to 1-2 times per week, drinking way less any night I do drink and only on weekends. Would like to get to the point where I drink maybe once every other week. Going to try not drinking this weekend because I have a lot of things to do including throwing my son a birthday party on Sunday. So hopefully I'll be so busy I don't think about drinking at all.9
-
I gotta do less alcohol. Alcohol is fouling out my dietary ambitions.
I am getting to where I drink every day. I like to think not that much but geesh every day.
It ain't like I am doing it to celebrate or commemorate.
I don't drink so much that I get hungover, so I feel ok today.
I resolve in the morning that I am not going to drink but midafternoon it is invariably a beer and a shot. Beer and a shot, that might be a conservative estimate. 25 oz Fosters and probably 100ml of whiskey more realistic estimate.
Heh, I am not real big on recovery programs. Nevermind all of the why to that. But here is me planning to drink way less in March.15 -
@Forgeahead2018 - I ran into this last year when I stopped drinking for a while. My friend treated me like I had the plague. She was always trying to pressure me to drink. Eventually, the friendship ended for another reason. What I realized was that her treatment of me was more about her, and not about me. Most of my other friends are very supportive.[/quote]
Interesting. I guess I need to develop new friends - mentioned above somewhere. And build a social life that doesn't revolve around drinking. So far, benefits far outweigh everything, so I'm sticking with AF. But it is taking a lot of reflection and digging deep.5 -
@blackopal93, thanks for the correction! I'm just hoping I'll be forgiven for slight mistakes when I'm in Italy. I always find it charming when Italian- or French-speakers make slight errors in English, but then they have those lovely accents, not my Texas twang! I'll be sure to specify "frizzante" for my acqua! Love the bubbles.
Excited to begin another month. Just returned from my check-up to learn that I've lost 10 lbs. since Jan. 1. Motivation!7 -

Same here. Some friends are getting together but not inviting me. It's not personal. They still like me, I'm sure. But they probably assume I wouldn't want to go out for drinks.
Best friend is supportive, but I can see a little bit of disappointment that I cannot moderate like she does. I told her it's just not possible for me to moderate. She understands, but I'm sure misses our carefree wild times out.5 -

Awesome 10 pounds is a lot!! Bravo! Have a wonderful time on vacation!0 -
Alright I'm going to try this out. I will admit I love having a beer or two / wine or two at the end of the day and honestly who doesn't like a bit of day drinking. But I'm pretty sure it's hindering my goals and I'd like to be more mindful of my actual intake and possibly try to reduce/limit myself. So here goes8
-
I'm in again too - I joined at the tail end of February. To date, I have not had any alcoholic beverages since Feb. 19, when I had company at my house and we went out to eat. My goal is to reduce alcoholic consumption to not more than a couple times a month, mainly special occasions. I no longer crave alcohol when I come home from work in the evening like I used to so that is a good thing. Once in a while in the evening I do feel a hankering for a glass of wine, but I have tried to replace that with nightly workouts. So far going pretty good, and I feel better than I did when I drank alcohol almost every night after work.6
-
I'm also going for damp. When I drink I can drink a TON, which also makes me really, really hungry. My husband sells wine so we get basically an endless supply for free, and I have two girlfriends who I am very close with (one has a non-custodial child, but both are single), so there is happy hour at least once a week. Keeping it to two or three times a week I have been able to lose about 3/4 of a pound every two weeks, which I'm trying to be happy with. Drinking less doesn't make me feel better overall physically, but having the pounds come off definitely does.

Friday - 2 oz beer at a brewery tour
Saturday - 4 oz beer at a cooking class
Sunday - 1 pint of beer at lunch at Felix’s with my red beans and rice watching the oyster shuckers at the bar.
Monday - one very generous pour of Cabernet at dinner at GW Fins.
Tonight we are going out to see Beth Hart, but like her, I choose not to be a drinker today!
Here is to another great month with all you great people!
You are my hero if you went to New Orleans and kept it that lean. There is no chance that I will make that happen In Costa Rica next month, but it's inspiring!3 -
Of course I'm back and in again for March!6

You did very very well in New Orleans considering it is a city full of indulgences!5 -
I am back for March, too! Had a dry January and dry February, planning for a damp March (3 planned drinks total), we shall see how that goes after so many AF days! So thankful for this thread.4

Well beings as it is still February ... I think I will start tomorrow.
I think I saw somebody in here with a plan kind of like ...
If I burn a thousand exercise calories then I can have something.
I think my something is going to be 12 oz of beer and 50 ml of spirit.
I think I am going to run that thousand kind of cumulative.
Kind of like if I burn 800 one day and then 500 the next, I can have something.
I don't often burn 1000 in a day and I don't really exercise every day.
So it will prob take me 3 or 4 days to get my thousand.
Maybe that will get me out of my every day habit.3
