See I like the touchscreen. My tomtom was button only and annoyed me.
I looked at the additional measurements you get from the forerunner and found for my purposes I didn't need them. I never had them before so I can get all the other stuff I currently have at a lower price point and went with the vivioactive3. When I was looking it basically came down to those additional measurements, otherwise the watches are fairly similar.0 -
lporter229 wrote: »@PastorVincent (or anybody)- Do you use your Forerunner as an everyday watch? Do you use it as a fitness tracker (steps, sleep, etc)?
I have the Forerunner 25 and use it as my everyday watch. It serves as a back-up for step counting when I forget to shove my fitbit in my pocket and I also wear it in bed (I don't really track my sleep, but wearing it 24/7 means I won't forget to put it on).
I'm allergic to nickel, which means most watches are a no-no because after a couple of hours wear my skin starts itching and comes up in a rash. The Forerunner 25 is silicone, so no nasty rashes. It's not the most attractive of watches; the Forerunner 35 is prettier, but like other people here I'm on #TeamButton rather than #TeamTouchScreen2 -
@PastorVincent I love that Star Trek watch face!0

I got the Vivoactive 3 and love it. I like the multi-sport and activity tracking stuff and I also like the touch screen. Price point was good, also.0

Hey all new to the group here. I quit running last spring (was training for my first half marathon) after my knee started giving me problems. I've been trying to get back into it but have been making excuses, weather, DOMS, whatever. Not sure I'll ever do that half, but really need to get started because it seems like the only way I lose is if I am running. no matter how much I work out .
In any case I'm gonna shoot for 25 miles and we will see where I get. . .

Thanks! I wish I could take credit for making it, but alas, I could not make anything that good looking.

Works on the Vivoactive 3 also it seems.2 -
Thanks for the input on the watches everyone. It's been really helpful. I have never used a fitness tracker before, but I mentioned to my husband a little while ago that I might wan to get a Fitbit for tracking. Since then, I learned that the latest Garmin devices can also be used for this purpose. However, he ended up buying me a Fitbit for my birthday. I am likely going to send it back and get the updated Garmin, but I am still trying to decide between the two. I think that the Vivoactive will probably be sufficient for my needs, but I am used to the Forerunner platform and for that reason I am a bit hesitant to change.2

@PastorVincent I think I'll have to download it to have as an option

I'm in again!
Goals: run 2 virtual 5K's. Haven't thought about miles yet; likely shoot for 35 this month since I didn't quite hit that in February.
03/01/2018: C25K Week 8 Day 2 (Ran for 2.75 miles)
My days are getting busy! Up at 4:50am, run through my 'SAVERS' (miracle morning stuff), exercise, get to to work by 8, home at 5, run the kids to/from school, make supper, head over to the barn and ride/work my horse, home at 9, shower a 2nd time, make lunches the next day. Crash. Whew. March is busy!10 -
I'm in too! My goal is 25 miles for March. I didn't quite hit that in Feb.5
-
3/1 6.86miles
Today is my 40th birthday! I really can’t believe I’m 40 I’m not sure I feel 40 - At least not how I imagined middle age feeling. All due to running and watching my weight. I hope I feel this way at 50!
3/18/2018 Shamrock half marathon
10/7/2018 Crawlin Crab half marathon
11/18/2018 Norfolk Harbor half marathon
@zdyb23456 - Happy, Happy Birthday! I have 20+ years on you you and don't feel it either... I have learned that age is just a number to count in passing. What is really important is how you feel. I didn't start running until my mid-late 50's and so wished I had started much earlier because it made me feel so great.3 -
Woohoo! Actually exceeded my monthly goal (50 miles) with 57 miles in February. Hopefully the snow and ice is behind us now . . we'll see. Please put me down for 70 in March. Happy running everyone!12
-
My first light and short jog for this month.
3/1: 2.4k -as warmup for strength training-
Goal: 2.4/120k
Take care all
Upcoming races:
4/1: Alexander the Great 10k Thessaloniki8 -
@zdyb23456 - Happy 40th! See, turning 40 isn't so bad, it's just an easier age group!5
-
I'm in! Somehow I forgot February was 28 days so I only had 58mi instead of hitting my goal of 60mi. Anyways, for March I'm going to stick with 60 miles with a good amount of hill/incline runs. I have my half-marathon in April and want to shave off 5-8 minutes off my finish time.8

Hey cool... you know, for the life of me I can not remember what the 4.8 is on your display. The 9348 is steps, but what is the 4.8? heh.0 -
Honestly, I am wondering that myself. My best guess is that it's my total estimated distance so far for the day?
I don't remember seeing a key for that particular area on the Garmin IQ site, but if the site were working at the moment I'd check it again, lol.0 -
Welcome to the group @lisaloum , @Tacklewasher, @angelicasassy, @jdunham221,@jillEReilly89, @qandv9 , @kaspan, @danniej312 , @zerlinna87 , @Teerai and @brw828 !!
I think I got everyone! If not welcome to all the newbies and good to see everyone else back! I'm not always good at tagging people since I am usually on my phone and this thread moves fast, but I do a lot of liking and hugging (but no hugging for @Elise4270 ).
Today will be my 5th day in a row to run. I usually run Sunday, Tuesday, Wed and Thurs but I ended up running Monday as well this week because of the bad weather last week. I am looking forward to a rest day tomorrow, but I am really glad that the 1st day of the month fell on a run day.
Aww you remembered! I think I'm people claustrophobic.1 -

I do. I like the step count. Sleep isn't telling me anything I don't already know. I like the stairs feature even though I don't do stairs. I have the Fenix.2 -
March 1.
9 pages of posts already.
WTF people.
I took a little time off between having the flu back in January and having a major flare-up of depression in February. But now I'm back, damnit.
I don't have a set mileage goal. I stopped logging miles weeks ago. It was putting too much pressure on me. Nowadays I just run by feel and however long it is, so be it. Been adding more hill intervals as well on the ol' treadmill. I can't tell you how ready I am for the days to get longer so I can go run outside again.
I also need to get new shoes. I've been wearing the New Balance [ten-eighty] v6 for the longest time. I can't wear the v7 because it gives me hip pain. They don't really make the v6 anymore so I need to find something that's as similar as possible to it. Might be time to go visit Runner's High again.14 -

Yeah, after I posted my theory I googled the steps to miles conversion and ran the numbers and figured that's what it was, lol.

3/1/18 - 2.53 miles. Got to run outside today because hubby was home. It was a nice change of pace from the treadmill (though a little harder). I actually did some hills and didn't stop to walk through them! They were very little hills but seemed huge to me lol9

Huh. Must be a high res watch face. Won't work with the Fenix 3.
I bought the Fenix 3 as the cheapest way to get the sapphire lens. I cracked the screen on a VAHR.
Did my 5k today.2 -

Got out at lunch today and really wanted to get in some intervals (yes really) if my legs felt like they could take it after being so sore from strength training and my run yesterday. I was having technology issues so I wasn't too sure what my actual overall pace was but based on my watch they were in the right area. My HRM also died - said my HR was only 60 after the 2nd interval so I took it off and just used my watch which couldn't find my HR at all. DH told me I am relying too much on technology and I should just run and not worry about it, He is probably right except when running intervals you really need that feedback on your HR and how it is recovering. I ran 8 short (~0.2 mile) intervals with 30 secs rest, 1 mile warmup and then 1.4 mile to the drinking fountain and then home... I did walk around the block the last .06 miles to get to 4 - because I just couldn't leave it at 3.94...
Also I ordered batteries on Amazon for my HRM. For whatever reason they are taking forever to get here (seems they are coming by slow truck from Kentucky). I don't understand why they wouldn't have just slipped them in an envelope and mailed them.
@PastorVincent - @RunsOnEspresso is correct, the general calculation is about 2000 steps per mile give or take a few depending on stride length, etc.
@RespectTheKitty - so good to see you back here! Have you looked online for the NB V6's sometimes you can find them on Amazon or Active long after they are no longer available from the manufacturer. Usually they are marked down quite a bit too.
Date........Miles.......Total
03/01......4.00.......4.00

Brutal, brutal wind today. Thermometer said -3C but windchill had it down to -13C from due east. I ran a southerly out & back, forgetting that most of the last km back was due east.
Yep, I froze solid.
Now inside at Tim Hortons defrosting with a decaf coffee before I hit the dollar store and grocery store to buy party things.

@sarahthes - I don't know how you even go out to run in that cold! I guess if you have the right gear it is ok but I would definitely be tempted to just stay inside where it is nice and warm!0
