Best Cleanse Advice Ever!!

Ok, so I've been falling into a YouTube spiral every night for like a week watching all kinds of food/diet related videos. I found a channel run by a DR. and while I don't agree with everything he says in all of his videos, I wholeheartedly agree with his advice about the best cleanse for your body. He said:
"You don't have to buy products to cleanse your body, you just have to stop putting dirty things inside your body."
Now just because I agree with that doesn't mean I'll stop eating the "dirty" foods that I like. I just understand what he's getting at and felt like sharing it because some of the people selling these cleanses are very good salespeople and have had me believing that a cleanse was the only thing to do to make myself feel better. Thankfully I never wasted my money on any of it. I limited the "dirty" foods and incorporated more protein and veggies which has made me feel great.

All food is nutritious in one way or another. It's never "dirty" unless straight out of the garden.
It wasn't Dr Oz by any chance?

That's why I wash the *kitten* first.13

I prefer to wash the dirt off my veggies before I eat them.7

I hear what you're saying. It's not literal Great advice. Thanks. I have been tempted to order expensive 'oxygen' colon cleanse tablets online I'm still thinking about it.
My mum has advised that I should just drink plenty of water daily to flush my system.
Still deciding but your guy's advice is sound too.24 -

Ummm wat.... sorry but I’m a nurse and oxygen tablets for your colon is maybe one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard lol. Can you say: scam?

I know- it is ridiculous! I've been thinking about it for years. My dad had emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction a few weeks ago and he had seemed to be in perfectly good health before that so it triggered me to start worrying about whether I have built up waste matter in my intestines that could cause a problem in the future. I guess I fell for the marketing for some of these instant cleanses I saw online years ago that showed pictures of what came out of people after using their products. Some showed parasites and long strands of old hard fecal matter that had apparently been stuck inside people's guts.
My mum is a nurse too so I guess I'll just listen to her advice and up the water and fibre intake.
I've been logging daily exercising and losing for the past few months and I'll just carry on being sensible. Woo moment over lol16 -

Those usually aren't parasites. And unless you're majorly constipated, nothing is lingering in your insides. That's how they get people though, sensationalism.10 -

Some made you think you were seeing parasites and long strands .... etc.
Follow your mom's advice!

From what I remember, those "long strands" aren't parasites but with some of the products they're parts of your intestinal lining. That stuff should stay inside your body.
Cleanses are nothing more than expensive laxatives. Prolonged laxative use is really REALLY bad for your intestines.8 -
Good discussion of the scams that are colon cleanse products, and how they get those pictures: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/colon-cleanses-a-load-of-you-know-what/
TLDR: a truly clean (i.e., sterile) colon would be bad for health and probably dangerous, you need your gut biome and some of these things can disrupt it, but also you don't have built up sludge or whatever they call it, that's made up.9 -

If you want to remove the buildup in your intestines, do a colonoscopy prep. Your intestinal walls will be spotless in a few hours. Think about it, they have to be spotless to be able to get pics and make a diagnosis. There's not years worth of "built up waste matter" there.12 -
Best cleanse advice ever: stop reading about cleanses or attaching the "clean" label to food. It's meaningless at best. Moralizing food is such an odd idea.19

It sells books and gets advertising monies from YouTube to boot.1 -

Yep. Anyone who's ever had a colonoscopy can attest to that. Tell your Dr. to prescribe you some Golytely, and that will clean that *kitten* right up
Just make sure you have a good book handy!2 -

Kind of OT but Golytely is one of the most disgusting things I've ever had to drink. I got admitted to the hospital for Crohn's and they tried to force that on me. Took one sip and straight up refused. Thank god my gastro tells his patients to mix Miralax with Gatorade. Same end result, dosn't taste like you're trying to drink the ocean.1 -

Huh, my spouse has to get a colonoscopy soon, I should have him ask his gastro about the Miralax and Gatorade trick. Listening to him take that prep three years ago was bad enough!1 -
Pico salax is the best prep. Forget what it's called in the states but it's just crystal that you mix in a cup x2 doses.0

I think that one with the parasites and other pictures might be the "worlds best cleanse" and I've actually done it before. I absolutely loved it. I used it after I had severe gallbladder disease and screwed up my digestive system for over a year. After having my gallbladder out my system was sluggish and I was bloated and didn't feel well most of the time. That cleanse got my system back to normal. It has some really great herbs that support the digestive system and some great soluble and insoluble fiber to get you functioning optimally. So if you feel like you might benefit you should try it. It's reasonably priced, doesn't make you go on a crazy special diet, and you don't have to use it over and over again.9 -

You forgot to mention that it is completely useless and a waste of money.4 -

Actually no, as you can see I found it very useful and the value was worth it for me. You see you forgot to read my post indicating that it helped me tremendously. If you've tried it and it wasn't helpful, you are free to post your experience as well. If you have no experience please don't minimize my own by bashing my comment, that might actually help someone who might be suffering with similar digestive distress.9
