@wigi41 - Love your poem! Thanks for sharing!2

I had wine yesterday, but I am committing to an alcohol-free April, beginning today. I'm ready for the break! I have a vacation coming up on May 9th, so I'd like to hold off until then.4

Happy Easter Monday, everyone. This thread is definitely 'hopping' already It's so great to hear about everyone's experiences, struggles and successes, thanks to you all for sharing. I continue to get so much from you all, and I draw so much inspiration from this thread.
I got through the Easter family get together yesterday sans alcohol, even though everyone else had sparkling wine with dinner, as well as other alcoholic beverages throughout the afternoon/ evening. I really did feel so much better without having any.
One thing I have noticed after being 3 months almost completely AF (minus one drink in March) (actually, one thing I have noticed among many other benefits) is how I am feeling so much more connected to myself, and to the things I used to do. I was sitting here with my kiddos today, who are off for Easter Monday, and they were doing some painting (they are both so artistic and just enjoy drawing and painting so much). I started doing some painting too but, while I enjoy the process, let's just say I don't get the same kind of output that they do. But I had the urge to do some writing, something I did used to do a lot of. I was sipping my tea, thinking about how much I was enjoying it, and how, before January 1, I really did not drink much tea at all, if any. If it's okay with you all, I thought I would share my little jokey ditty about tea here, as, in many ways, it was this group that got me started with this new "relationship" (sorry if it's too long, feel free to not read!)
An Ode to Tea
For many years,
Most of my time
Your charms were not
In thoughts, in mind
I did not know,
Was not aware
And truly, did not even care
About your taste,
Your feel, your smell,
Your gifts I could not
Even tell
Eschew you, I would
For something more -
Dark coffee roast,
My true amore
But in months past
You've risen up
To be a friend -
Warmth in a cup
You give me comfort,
You make me smile,
I always hope you
Stay awhile
I top you up,
I sniff and sigh
And think - yes, now,
I do know why
Not wine now, no
It's you I choose
My thoughts, you will not
Make me lose
My feelings you won't
Try to take
And you will not
Keep me awake.
I like to try
Your different kinds
I get so thrilled by
Different finds:
Green and black,
and herbal, chai
Yes, all of these I
Like to try
Rooibos, orange
Vanilla cream
And chamomile to
Help me dream
And chocolate mint,
And detox, cleanse
I see these with a
Different lens.
I'm grateful for your
Stoic calm,
The ways you help
Support a mom
A woman, athlete,
Caring wife -
With all these aspects
Of my life
With all of your
Variety -
I write you this-
My Ode to Tea.
This made my day! I love it! And I love you took the time to write it! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!2 -

I love this idea. Reward myself on good behavior.

Obviously the motivation and support is the best thing of this group. But after a few months with you guys I find myself noticing other little things. Like tonight I happen to be watching the Astros World Series Penant celebration and remembered that @donimfp was going to be at the game. Hope it’s a blast!7

Today will be 2 days AF, I slept amazing, I had energy, and I worked out tonight.7

Hi Friends, nothing new to report. Definitely boredom is a contributor to craving alcohol. I've thought several times today that I should just have a glass of wine. It's spring break Julie, you can just celebrate and have one big glass. No big deal!
But then a voice reminded me that it's poison for your body, you feel so good every morning when you wake up, and you can make some delicious tea and read the thread!
Today, I went to Whole Foods; I rarely go there because it's far from me. I bought two new teas. Pukka LOVE tea (organic rose, chamomile and lavender) and Bigelow Perfect Peach tea.
@machchic Good job!
@rachelcalsbeek One day at a time. You can do it!
@Stepping18 Inspirational! Great way to lose weight and be healthier! Xo5 -
@Skyweigh Bravo! Love reading your thoughts! I also love the AFA term!1
-
@lporter229 It's easy to get carried away under those fun circumstances. Today is a new day to start fresh. Make some tea. Write down some goals. You'll be successful this month!3

@kpk54 Great quote! So true!1

OK. I’m committing to a dry April. Monday the 2nd we’re driving to Houston for the Astros home opener after their World Series win. I’ve loved them since they were the Colt 45s. But there will ALWAYS be an occasion to celebrate. And that’s a good thing and means I have a rich life for which I’m thankful. But alcohol needs to go. I can’t deny that and am freaking sick of dancing with it. Im just announcing to you friends I’ve made here that my intention is for a dry April. Im scared but think I can do it. xoxo. And also if I post any rationalizations during April I would appreciate any gentle reminders to go back and read this post. I feel like I did as a kid on the high dive.
GO ASTROS!2 -
I am aiming for wine only and only on Friday and Saturday. It feels like I have been drinking all my life - I practically have since I started when I was 18. I've come along way and have been able to control it i.e. cutback but I want to cutback more. Besides the older I get the harder it is to drink and keep weight down.8
-
I mark an X on my calendar on my AF days. I aim for at least 2 days a week - it's a visual I can look at to see where I am on any given day. Sometimes I falter and go 3-4 days the following week.6
-
@SD1957 As people who have been here a while already know, I keep a printed calendar of the current month on my fridge and put my corny "you're great!" or "good job!" stickers on every day. I too, love the visual. At first I was happy to have more non-drinking days than drinking ones. Now for April, I am committed to have a sticker on every single day. 2 down, 28 to go!11

trying to decide if i want to go ahead and get my bottle of pinot grigio tomorrow after the gym & my therapy appt, or if i wanna wait until the weekend, since my birthday (the big 25 ) is Saturday and I know I'm gonna want a little somethin' somethin' then. Decisions, decisions...
Wait til the weekend. It will be more special on your birthday. If it's not at home this week, you won't drink it:)6 -

Do what’s right for you. And try to learn from each personal win and loss. Over time you will learn what is right for your journey.
Also, Happy (early) Birthday!!5 -
I'm in6

Here I am, at 1am, watching tonight's recorded hockey game and I just poured a glass of water, at my drink limit. Had a hard time doing that in March!6

Tough, emotional weekend, too much to get into now. Didn't drink Fri or Sat, however Easter I decided to open up a bottle of champagne to share with family. I think I drank half of the bottle! Maybe normally wouldn't have been a problem, but my I think my tolerance has gone way down. Felt terrible most of the today, still had to work and got through the day.
Back to AF days! My mind and I body deserve it. t8 -
I am so glad I'm on a dry streak right now. My dad drank alot of Easter and felt like trash all day yesterday while I felt just dandy. I was also told by my (future) sister in law that I'm funner to be around while I'm sober.5

@JulieAL1969
Pukka Tea??? Haha the ingredients sound devine, but that name??
@ksaghy I know what you mean about been drinking forever. I started when I was 18 also. It used to be legal to buy what we called 3.2 beer at 18 and also go to the bars way back then. Lots of college puking memories. We sure could have used that Pukka Tea, right Julie? I probably drink more frequently these days, but thank God that it's been years and years since I remember puking.3 -
@JulieAL1969, let me know what you think of that pukka rose tea! I have the detox, which I love, and the cleanse, which is okay, and the three ginger, which is pretty good too. I have looked at the Rose one but haven't bought it yet, would love to hear your thoughts about it!1

Wait and maybe you'll want something else: a massage to celebrate, or a facial... there are options.

I have the Pukka RELAX and it's not my favorite. But the LOVE tea is really good. I like it! And the box and design is pretty too.1 -
Oh, that's what I meant, the love tea. Ok, thanks, I think I will give that one a try! (I love the box, too. The three ginger tea box is pretty, as well ).1

I'm in. Haven't had a drop since March 15th and have committed to keep going until my godchild's wedding in mid-July. Putting my running and strength training fist!6
