Feels good doesn't it?I ve noticed a pattern. I can be very good for a while in keeping with my plan and then get very bored of the same foods and give up altogether. Does anyone have a tip for this apart from brain rewiring?
Change up your food! When I'm losing weight I pretty much stick to the same 5 meals per day for a week with dinner changing each night, but change up the menu each week. So one week may look like:
Breakfast: scrambled egg whites with peppers, mushrooms, onion, salsa
Mid-morning snack: Greek yogurt with chopped berries + low-fat cheesestick
Lunch - Mediterranean Tuna stuffed peppers with Quinoa
Mid-day snack: Brisket + green beans and mushrooms + new potatos
Dinner: Turkey and sausage gumbo, Fish and broccoli, Chicken Marsala + Grilled Asparagus, Grilled Shrimp + Grilled Red Pepper, Onion, Mushrooms
Evening Snack: Halo Top
Next week may look like:
Breakfast: Protein pancakes with heated up blackberries on top + glass of high protein skim milk
Mid-morning snack: Raw veggies in Greek Yogurt Dressing
Lunch - Leftover Soup (soup any leftover meats/veggies)
Mid-day snack: Halo Top
Dinner: Cauliflower Chicken Fried Rice, Smothered Pork Chops + Brussell Sprouts, Shrimp Mykonos, etc.
Evening Snack: GLOP with Tortilla chips
Now when I'm maintaining, I'm much more lax and pretty much just plan one or two meals per day. It might look like this:
Morning: Protein Lemonade
All-day snack: Sunflower seeds
Mid-morning snack: Leftover Soup
Lunch: Salad with chopped lettuce, peppers, onions, capers, pickled okra, artichoke hearts, heart of palm, black olives, low-fat feta, shrimp and Olive Garden low-fat dressing
Afternoon snack: Halo Top
Dinner: Same as previous examples
Evening Snack: chocolate, Lay's sour cream and onion...3 -

I’ve just started reading eat.lift.thrive. And she talks a lot about food and how we try to eliminate so much when really we should be monitoring calories. Of course that means we have to eat nutrient dense ‘healthier’ foods but it also means we have to eat in a way that we can sustain for our lives (not just a diet period).
With that in mind, substituting lower calorie versions of things that you really want and eating the healthy food that you really like is really important. I love Mexican so I’m always having that. Zoodles and cauliflower rice are really yummy too...

@daisyf717 that's exactly what I do with all my recipes. If you love Mexican you really should try that enchilada recipe that I posted2

This is why I think it's so important that everyone keep their diaries open, and that we take time to read our friends' diaries. It's when you start to see what everyone else is eating, that your eyes are open to all of the possibilities to eat healthily and deliciously! I have gotten so many good ideas from my friends' diaries, and likewise have gotten lots of requests for how I made foods/recipes that are in my diaries. No more thinking that I have to eat a salad for every meal to lose weight!!!
I realize now with this new lifestyle (NOT a diet), and the help of my MFP friends, that I can LOVE what I'm eating, NOT be bored, and STILL lose weight! I'm 20 pounds down and counting!
So, take some time to really read those diaries, and keep lists if it helps you remember, some great ideas for main dishes, side dishes, interesting veggie based dishes, snacks, and even low calorie condiments. You'll be amazed at how much good stuff is out there waiting to be found! And don't hesitate to ask friends about things in their diaries that interest you... I've never had anyone turn down my request for a recipe or help in finding a particular item.
Good luck! You can do this!7 -
Hi I would like to join this group too. I never used MFP more than as few days in a row previously as I got bored entering all the details. But I figure it might be better with a community to engage with. I'm age 45 and want to lose around 30 pounds.1

Try pre-planning and meal-prepping your week in advance. Then you don't have to enter the details every day and you don't have to think about what you are going to eat. Planning in advance really helps you stay on track.0 -

I've been on myfitness pal for a few years. The past 35 days I've really began making the attempt to get my *kitten* together when it comes to my weight. I am officially 125 pounds overweight. The first time in over 20 years that I actually said it out loud or written it down. This is really crazy that I have went as far as to post it on a social media platform. I am so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I never really thought of my weight as a big deal. I've always have to confidence so I thought! I'm really in a bad place emotionally and needed some type of outlet today. I normally the one that everyone comes running to. Now is my time to think more about me. Any suggestions where do I start emotionally wise to get started on change. #45yearoldmom #newchapter #dontknowwhichwaytogo2

First of all, you should not be ashamed, you should be proud that you are taking the first step to improving your health. Many people never even get that far. As far as where to get started on change...one day at a time. You will have setbacks, you won't always eat perfectly, but don't let that be an excuse to go crazy for the rest of the day or week. Consistency will get you there when motivation is nowhere to be found. How are you at logging? I'd start just logging what you eat for a week or two. Don't worry about changing anything, just be honest with yourself. That will give you a good starting point to see where you might be able to change things up. Maybe just swapping a few lower calorie options for your common foods will be enough right now. You can do this. As you said, now is the time to think about you. You want to continue to be around for everyone to come running to.1 -

First off, welcome and acknowledging the issue is the first (rather big!) step, so congrats on being honest. Sometimes, it's hardest to be honest with ourselves as weird as that sounds (had one of those this morning myself as I didn't want to enter my morning weight into my tracker because it was a few pounds higher than I liked/feel like I should be - but decided that not entering it didn't change reality, so put it in even though I didn't want to!).
Agree with the above poster - just learning to track, weigh your foods, etc will probably be enough to keep you busy for the first couple weeks. Buy a food scale and use it - weighing is the most honest way to know what you're actually eating. Weigh everything you can, some things you may be surprised at how quickly it adds up, and other things you may find you can have a lot more of! This will help you plan meals and quantities once you start getting more strict on your deficit.
And yes, one bad meal or day or binge is never an excuse to keep going. Admit you had a failing, and maybe you actually really enjoyed it, but that's not a reason to keep doing it. Every meal, every bite is a choice, they don't come in groups.0 -

You’ll feel so good once you get started. Take one day at a time and set one goal at a time. Once you get into the habit it won’t feel like sacrifice at all.0 -
Hi I’m back here again, just turned 45 last week.
I lost 9-10 lbs last year and it’s now all gone back on again, not helped by being put back on mirtazapine. Now want to lose it again for the Summer. I’ve 2 teens and work 4 days per week, would love to connect with others in similar situations, feel free to add me0 -
I'm 43 and would like to lose at least 30 lbs. Just recently hit 200 and I'm disgusted with myself. I used to run and do half marathons and now I'm getting ready to start shopping in the plus size stores! Feel free to add me. I need as much support as possible since I seem to lose my motivation by the end of the day!1

I would love to add you all as friends but I can’t figure out how so please add me.0
