If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, We welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, We welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? So you ride weekends? Do you spin, at home or the gym? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Or, are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid? However you choose to push your pedal, you are welcome on this thread.

There's no set challenge across participants - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group. Just pick your own target that you want to achieve this month, post that when you join the thread, and post updates throughout the month as you're working towards your target.

Let's get going in May!

I'm not sure what to set my goal at for May. The weather is usually pretty wet this time of year so the trails may not be ride-able. I do like to get out on my mountain bike at least twice a week, also to offset the cost of a full suspension bike ;-) . I ride single track and some technical trails but I'm still pretty new to the sport. I'm in Billings, MT. I also just bought a new bike that will work on both road and single track so I'm excited to get that this week and be able to ride on the roads/paths when the trails are wet.

I'm happy to find this thread. I'm an older roadie that just stopped riding one day - and overate and got fat. I guess that's why I'm back to MFP... At one time I would ride 150 miles a week - that was back then.

Now I'm trying to get back in the saddle. Right now I'm riding 30-40 minutes 3x a week. Depending on wind, that's 5-6 miles or so. I want to get back to being able to knock out a 12-15 mile loop from my house.

My goal for this month is 100 miles.

Man it’s nice to see more mountain bikers in this thread!

Finally the weather has broke here and I can set a monthly goal.

So for May I am looking at 50 trail miles and 50 road miles

I have an upcoming challenge in June for Cancer Ride for Kids. This would help me achieve my goal of 26 miles in one month. I ride a recumbent bike due to hip issues, and this will be a challenge for me. I rode 1.2 miles today, working towards 1.5 miles at a time.

Keep pedaling! You will make it !
1.2 miles is a whole lot better than sitting on the coach

I like to join in. I’m a 40 something WAHM that likes to bike to get from here to there around my small college town. Nothing fancy. Just riding with my kids to school and to run errands mostly. Sometimes just for the fun of it. I have an old Raleigh hybrid I nabbed off of Craig’s list for $100. It’s in my LBS right now getting new tires and a spring spiff up. I can’t wait to get it back on a Friday in time for our mayor,s bike ride.

I do have dreams of working up to doing a longer organized ride (50 miles maybe) or committing to doing 80% of errands via bike. Oh and I’m currently coveting a rack a panniers to get the groceries off my back but then I wondering if I’m just being a consumerist chump. Any recommendations?

Goal for the month is 70 hours. Got three races this weekend so starting with a taper week which is going to make 70 hard but planning on a 500 mile week in late May if the weather holds.

Almost 300 hours for the year so far

My goals all fell apart in late March for reasons out of my control. I don't know how May is going to go, but I'm hoping to start to pick up my fitness pieces.

For a start, I've signed up for a 5K run at the end of the month. A little goal.

And I've got some plans for more indoor cycling as winter comes on.

Main thing for me in May is my 92 mile charity ride on the 13th.

Up to the first weekend (maybe Monday too...) I'll doing plenty of riding, especially hills.
Then it's tapering down the mileage and intensity, cutting out caffeine until the day (I'm a low caffeine responder so need to go from almost zero to loads to get any discernible benefit on the day) and supplementing with beetroot shots (because pink wee is fun?).

But main activity in the week before the ride is watching the ever changing weather forecast as that will make or break the day as regards actually enjoying the ride.

What a way to start May! 80 degrees yesterday and 80 today. 2 weeks ago we had snow and freezing rain.

7 mile road ride tonight against 20 mph sustained winds.
Looks like Friday will be nice for a trail ride after work. Maybe Saturday too

    Road miles: 7
    Trail miles: 0

Im in again, ill target 600Km again, starting to get cold round here. Getting tougher to get out the door in the morning. 3hrs/72km so far this month.

Ive created a cycling thread in fitness and exercise as this challenge gets reset every month. I thought it might be useful to have a ongoing thread to discuss cycling.

Just a short ride last night. My friend brought her dogs so we don't go quite as far on those nights.

    May 2 - 5 miles trail

Hoping to pick up my new bike tomorrow or Saturday. I can't wait for more biking options.

My Goal for May is to start winning races on the track and keep my 1st place in my local TT League. For that my coach has given me a plan, so the sub goal is to be able to stick to that plan as much as possible.

    1. 28km - 53 min ( intervals ) - Zwift
    2. 27km - 45min ( racing ) - Velodrome
    3. 30km - 55min ( racing ) - Zwift

    Interval sessions : 1/18
    Racing sessions : 2/8

I bike trained quite a bit last summer (1,200 miles) and then rode a 5 day 300 mile event over Labor Day. after that ... i was quite a slug! Now I feel like I am starting over. Why oh why did i do so little over the winter!! I would like to do the event again but this time doing their harder route! This route is 330 miles with more hills. Four 70+ mile days and the last day is a shorter 50 miler. I am wondering if i can handle this! Well i have to start somewhere and i rode 30 miles in April and have had 1 May ride for 9 miles (it was windy and warm and so hard!). I really need to get 200 - 300 miles in May.

I'm from Michigan. I lived there almost all of my life then moved to Montana in 2012. I grew up in Northville but lived in Redford, Tecumseh, Grass Lake and lastly Dansville before I moved. It's still home to me!
