Getting used to healthier foods

So... this is 474 calories. It is my lunch, which means i have about 1100 cals to go today. I dont think i can eat that much...

Anyhow. Like I tried saying I have bad history of eating way too little and/or total garbage.
Now that I'm switching to healthier foods I feel like I'm stuffed pretty much all the time.
But i guess my body will get used to this, huh?1 -
What if I told you that healthy eating is not about individual "healthy" foods, but having a healthy diet and a healthy relationship with food? That a healthy diet is balanced and varied? And that you can eat anything you want in moderation?21

Sure, I agree 100%. I dont Think I have problem with my attitude toward food but I might be wrong. Does it seem like I have?
For the record, I am not cutting anything out. I just dont want to live in a way where a chocolate bar is my lunch anymore. That is exactly my point: to become healthier by habbit not by obsession☺occasional candybar, gin tonic or piece of cake are all very welcome. Honestly, I dont think I would function so well without them5 -
There are calorie dense nutritious foods you could have if you have a smaller appetite.

Adding some fats to your diet is an easy way to up the calories. Cook with some oil or butter, eat fuller fat dairy, avocados, use a higher calorie salad dressing. Eat dark meat poultry or salmon.
Eat some pasta, rice cereal or bread. Eat some granola, nuts or seeds. Eat some dried fruit.
Drinking some of your calories in the form of whole milk, juice, smoothie or a shake might be easier than eating more food if you struggle to do that.2 -
I think your lunch looks fantastic and yes, you can incorporate some higher calorie healthy foods to get your calories up, but good job on moving toward being healthier and feeling better!5

How sure are you that your lunch is 474 calories? I can't tell 100 percent what I am looking at but my calorie spidey sense is tingling that it could be higher.2

I hate to be an egg snob, but those eggs look seriously overcooked. The green sulfur ring and pale colour are the give-aways. Try cooking them for a shorter time for a much tastier experience!6

@NovusDies I'm sure. Everything for this meal in particular was carefully measured and scaled. This is the One food where I'm absolutely sure whats in it2

That’s a nice looking plate of food.
Bright orange/yellow yolks are determined by the chicken’s diet. You can avoid the green ring by immediately immersing the eggs in ice cold water when done cooking (Julia Child trick)3 -

the only thing that should have been measured was the milk the rest should have been weighed on a scale7 -

That looks pretty good for a meal if you ask me. If you don't think you're getting enough calories from main meals, maybe you could add some snacks in between, like nuts, fruit, dairy etc.1

To the OP. I know what you mean. Before I started paying closer attention to my diet, I was drinking a lot of my calories thru Beer. Once I started eating nutrient dense food it was tough at first to choke it all down. Black beans are so filling for instance. As others have mentioned in this oils, butters, and nuts can really add up calorie wise and aren't really filling if you are struggling. I seem to recall a database that listed relative satiability of different foods, I couldn't locate the site I remembered, but I found this it may help you pick some less filling alternatives to try until you get used to eating more nutrient dense food.

However, I do recommend trying eat the solid calories rather than trying to just add filler. Of course keep an eye on your macros will help tell you if you getting too much fat vs others etc. I personally don't get all anal about my macros just check on em here and there to make sure my overall has a decent balance to it.2 -
I've come to the understanding that eggs are good for us. A decent source of protein. Then again other people have expressed their concern that I eat way to many eggs. I used to eat three fried eggs over two hash browns parties with a dollop of BBQ sauce and got sauce for breakfast every day for breakfast. Now I've switched to oatmeal. Anyone have any suggestions regarding the number of eggs I consume let sitting/ or over the course of a week..? Thank you in advance. Vince0

That looks wonderful, but it also looks very high-fiber and low-fat. I could be wrong, but especially given the calorie count you provided, I suspect that you didn't add any fats to the veggies or the rice, and it looks like you're using some kind of margarine or spread on the bread.
Fats are an easy way to bump up the calories without necessarily impacting how full you feel. You could easily add another 100-150 calories with olive oil, butter or cheese without adding bulk to your meal.5 -

@vinceinalabama in Finland we have a state issued guidelines for food and that states that about 2-4 eggs in a week is a good going rate as to not let it affect cholesterol and blood pressure in a negative way.
@AliceDark using fats in a healthy way had turned out to be quite tricky, at least for me. But I'm learning and I'm sure i'll get the hang of those too:)1 -

Eggs don’t affect cholesterol like you think they do. You can have 2-3 eggs a day 7 days a week4 -
Tormikoskiterhi thank you very much for your input. I eat 2 eggs with 2 hash brown patties every morning for breakfast. Along with a mug of coffee and Coffeemate flavored creamer. There are days when I feel like something different and have oatmeal instead. I do have high cholesterol and am treated forit. I do realize the body does make its own cholesterol as well.0

eggs only cause cholesterol issues if you have a genetic cholesterol issue. for most people dietary cholesterol doesnt cause a raise in serum cholesterol

If a lot of the lower calorie healthier foods are too filling for you, you can try eating higher calorie healthier foods like nuts, for example.1

Haha I gotta say, first I looked at your screen name and thought ”hmmmm...” then I looked at your food photo and said to myself ”yep, she’s Finnish”. The plate looks identical to what I have had a zillion times. Finnish ladies unite!
As for being able to eat your calories: for this meal, it looks like you are using a margarine instead of butter (I’m guessing Keiju, Flora or KevytLevi from the look of it), just go with the butter if your doctor didn’t tell you to watch your fats. It will taste better, anyway. Then a little bit of oil to the veggies. Just eat smart portions often, you’ll get it all down. It will be good for you. Besides, at least you won’t be hungry when you ”diet”1
