Starting the KETO diet

Hello everyone!
Today is the first day in the keto diet, I have read a bunch of reviews, watched a lot of videos and everyone seems to have success with this diet.
To be honest I’m a little scared I always find myself failing in all types of diets, this is my first time actually posting something, I’ve read that having motivational support will help you keep up the diet. So feel free to add me, I’m going to try keeping up with the macros and updates about the diet

Hey at least it is a starting point. The key is not of find someone else's diet but to start at that point and evolve into your own Way Of Eat over time that works to give you better mental and physical health for years to come.
When I started eating Keto I did not even know that I was doing Keto. On a hunch I cut out foods containing added sugar and any form of any grain and it worked well to manage my pain within the first 30 days. Weight loss as a goal was dropped before because I knew after 40 years trying to lose weight had never worked for me so my only goal was and still is to improve my health.
While I did not lose a pound for the first 45 days I went on to lose 50 pounds without trying and have maintained that loss for three years now eating all I want when I want it and continue to see profound health improvements at age 67.
I think it was about a year before I got a good feel for the Keto WOE that works well for me.
Remember it is not what that works for me or others but what works for YOU that you are looking for today. I do not know anyone that does Keto the same way that I do and that is just fine.
Best of success.10 -
Hey Gale,
thanks, must definitely!3 -
Welcome to the boards.
If you want support or advice on keto or lchf diets, these MFP groups will offer plenty of both:

Don't forget to increase your sodium! As carb levels fall, so does insulin, and that causes you to lose water weight and electrolytes. If you start getting headaches, fatigued, nauseated, BM issues, moodiness, muscle aches or spasms, then you know you aren't getting enough sodium. Most keto'ers need at LEAST 3000 - 5000 mg of sodium a day. For reference, there's 2300 mg of sodium in a teaspoon of salt.
Good luck!2 -
I think it's much better to not go on a diet, and just eat normal food, but less.3

I’m in my 2nd day of going Keto. I lost 60+ lbs with a gastric sleeve but gained back 12 in the last 3 months. I’m trying to get off the carb roller coaster again. I was diabetic before the surgery. My blood sugar is in normal range now. I don’t want to go backwards. Still want to lose 30-40 more lbs but keeping the diabetes at bay is my main goal.2
