Orlistat (xenical) while doing Keto diet?

I'm pescatarian so doing Keto is difficult for me as it seems like there is much more prep or planning (not keen on raw diets). I lost a good amount of weight with that in the past, like 15 lbs in a month. Once i ended it, I spiked right back up. I'm currently on orlistat (120 mg) and have lost about 8 lbs in the past 3 weeks. I recently started going to the gym twice a week (last week and this) so I'm hoping to be losing more soon. I drink north of 64 oz of water a day, typically around 90 oz or more so I'm not concerned about water weight.
Here's my question, has anyone tried doing Keto while taking orlistat? I've already read why this might be a bad idea but have also read someone saying it worked well for them. So I'm not looking for opinions like "That's a bad idea" but rather opinions from someone that may be an actual dietrician or health professional who can give an opinion but also from people that have tried this. Have you tried taking orlistat / alli/ xenical while doing the ketogenic diet? did it work? was it awful? What were the pros and cons.
Look forward to feedback,
-I'm trying!!

I'm not a health professional and I've never tried this but even I can tell you that it is a terrible idea. I mean, seriously, think it through. Keto is a higher fat diet and you are taking a fat blocker that makes the fat basically run through you. How in the world could that be healthy or sustainable?
I've done keto but the idea of taking a fat blocker at the same time just makes me shudder.24 -
Don't. Just don't.
It wasn't keto but low carb and the result wasn't pretty.
I hadn't paid attention when the doc explained how orlistat worked (stupid, I know) and the nutritionist he sent me to was about as useful as a yeast infection (she's the one who put me on low carb and she was aware of the orlistat).
If your fat intake is too high, the likelihood of orange explosive diarrhea becomes astronomical.19 -

If Keto is so difficult for you why are you doing it?
It will be worse than awful. Unless you like orange poop showers.5 -

This one could end up even better, though - Orlistat with a high fat diet??? Prepare the mud cannon!9 -

Not a professional. This is not the best venue for seeking a professional opinion. At best you will get personal experiences and opinions. I was on Orlistat and I managed to avoid the known side effects by carefully controlling my fat intake.
I also did not lose much weight.
Trying to do a pescatarian Keto with low fat is a recipe for disaster. You’ll be eating fish, eggs, and a controlled portion of veggies. IMHO this is far too restrictive to be sustainable.5 -
CON: Alli is contraindicated for use with high-fat diets. Medical professionals will tell you to take Alli with a reduced calorie, low-fat diets due the wildly unpleasant side effects you'll have by pairing a fat absorption blocker with large amounts of fat. Most medical professionals I know don't like Alli even with perfect use because their patients still have unpleasant intestinal side effects. If you cut out entire macros AND flush the body of the one that you are eating, how is your body going to absorb any nutrients at all?
PRO: None that I can think of.

My doctor suggested putting me on this a while back, after seeing my mum's 'accidents' there was no way. But doing it on keto where its high fat??? No. Just. No1

OP, read this thread all the way to the end. And then seriously reconsider your plan.2 -

Don't need to be keto specific, really. The problems with Orlistat/Alli stem from eating fat, and keto is a high fat diet. It's simple enough to work out the logical procession from those two facts.3 -
Honestly, I read the title of your thread and said "EWWWWW!" so loudly my office mate asked what was wrong. Those two things together seems like a recipe for disaster.4

You really should be asking your dr if it is ok to go on keto with orlistat. I have concerns though as that the medicine and keto will work against each other.
Since you read already somewhere (link?) that it is a bad idea to combine the keto diet with orlistat, I am not sure why you would even want to do this?
Be safe and consult your dr about it. Hugs.3 -
I don't understand the point of this.
Orlistat works because it forces you to eat low fat, and punishes you with hideously embarrassing digestive issues if you don't.
Keto is a high fat diet. What would the point of purposefully eating a lot of fat while taking this drug accomplish?6 -

My favorite post from that thread:I've never taken Alli, BUT, I do have a real world story to share.
I used to work at a furniture store... about 3 years ago. We once had a a female customer come into the store. Well, she had to make a break for the bathroom quite suddenly. After some time the salesperson who had been working with her complained (I was in customer service) that the lady never came back and that he'd wasted time with her. A handful of minutes passed and I went to the bathroom. What I saw I can never ever unsee.
Without going into too much gruesome detail, there was orange poo everywhere. The lady's clothes were in the trash, soiled. The lady was in one of the stalls hysterically crying. I left and told the manager about it. She went to help out the lady and basically gave her a sheet from one of the floor model beds to cover herself so she could leave the bathroom. The manager later told us the lady said she was taking Alli and she'd basically exploded everywhere. She apologized over and over. I felt bad for the lady. How embarassing and humiliating for her that must have been. Then the other customer service girl I worked with volunteered to clean the bathroom (we didn't have a cleaning service at the time, it was a brand new store). I didn't envy her position. It was the single most grossest thing I've ever seen (and I have 2 kids...so...).
So yeah... word of caution there....5 -

Hi Rita,
Well, now you know that combing Keto and Alli is a recipe for disaster. However, there's nothing magic about Keto and it sounds like it doesn't particularly suit you anyway. Seems like low fat pescatarian would be a better fit for you.

It sounds like you're really trying to do too much. I suggest you out the meds and the keto on the back burner for now, as neither of them are necessary for weight loss. Give calorie counting a try. You may just find that it's all you need.1
-
If you don't think keto will suit your life style I would suggest its not the right diet model for you to get into a calorie deficit. Have you tried calorie counting or reasonable LCHF to control your calorie intake.
Serious question, why are you taking Orlistat? was it prescribed by your doctor? certain fats are good for you and having more of them (within the bounds of a calorie deficit) instead of less could be beneficial.0 -

^^^ Agreed.
I would add calorie counting and eat what you like in moderation to that list too.4 -
I don't know how you feel about this and what your goals are. If you want to lose weight, you just have to eat less (and move more). Does that sound too simple? It is very simple, but it's not that easy, because you have to do it for real, consistently and for a long time. You do not have to make it harder. Making it harder, makes it more difficult to succeed. If you want to make it harder, ask yourself why.2

I noticed you have not posted since your initial question. It's probably not the feedback you were looking for. But I hope you have read it. And taken it to heart.
There's no magic in the process. No such thing as a "kick start" or anything else that will "help the process". The process is just eating at a caloric deficit. Find a sustainable plan that you can be in total control of your intake and stick with it. Because you'll need to be in total control even (and especially) when you finish your weight loss.
I hope you stay away from this drug. Far away.
