I have two kiddos of my own now. Right when I started, dropped 30 pounds over a few months and got pregnant right away. I have a 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son. So it did work out.5 -
My dream vacation is Japan, and I would NEVER feel comfortable going with the weight I am now. I might also want to look fabulous incase I run into people who have wronged me in my past...
Also, shopping will be easier/cheaper and just a better life in general but those aren't fun answers.3 -
@Destinyy Thanks! I love my little buddy, lol

The physical discomfort was affecting my quality of life. I worried about how much damage I've caused myself. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find the "spark," but one day I realized I was ready. That was in January. A few weeks later my husband had a close call...a really close call...and was diagnosed with a life-threatening cardiac condition. I was supposed to be the one in trouble! Now there will be no looking back! I got the message! I am losing steadily at an average of 1.5 pounds a week. I feel so much better! I am definitely looking at a much-improved future!6

I was pregnant with my second child and had the gestational diabetes test done and tested positive. Except they didn't set up a second test like normal and skipped right to a diabetic educator and dietician. When I asked why I was told my blood sugar was so high no second test was needed and it was so high that I had regular diabetes. I developed it before I was pregnant and just didn't know. That was my wake up call I was living so unhealthy and I'd let my weight get so out of hand something finally came of it.3

I've always had a love affair with food and drinks - seeking them out, going to restaurants, cooking, craft beer, cocktails, you name it. But the creeping realization that my lifestyle was / is unsustainable and that I can't keep putting on 10lbs a year for the rest of my life, coupled with some insights gained while under the influence of <redacted> in the woods, finally flipped the switch for me. So, here I am. We can do this, right?2

I knew I was extremely overweight, however I still couldn’t get into the mindset of healthy eating.
I went to the Dr’s with a chest infection. He took my blood pressure, then took it again numerous times. He looked really concerned and held my hand! He then started asking me if I felt dizzy, had chest pains etc. The Dr. Explained that my blood pressure was dangerously high and along with my weight I was at a very real risk of heart attack or stroke. He didn’t mean possibly he explained it was just a matter of when. I had to go to hospital and see various consultants and with medication, got my BO under control.
It was the wake up call I needed. I’m not on a diet, I’ve changed my lifestyle. Up to now I’ve lost -69lb.9 -

I already knew I needed to lose weight. But, I happened to watch "Obesity: The Post-Mortem" on Netflix and... well... it changed my life. It was the rude awakening I needed. I've been on the straight and narrow ever since.2

Same here. My highest recorded weight was 218. I am 5'5. I needed to buy all new clothes and I was plus size for the first time in my life. I was uncomfortable and had an extensive collection of giant long cardigans.... haha This was me trying to hide. My joints hurt, my back hurt, so finally I said enough is enough. There was a weight loss challenge at work, and I joined it. That was April 2017.
I am now 60 lbs lighter and feel great! I am almost at my goal weight, and all I did was change my eating habits. All I did was log calories on MFP. I didn't join a gym, I didn't start doing all sorts of exercises or join any fitness classes. I didn't start going for walks or doing home workout videos or anything. Strictly diet change. And I also didn't cut anything out. If I restrict myself, I will binge in 1-2 weeks on whatever I denied myself. So I eat whatever I want. I just stay honest and log it. This is the only thing that has worked for me.
Now I am looking into more exercise. haha But I can't do too many changes at once or it won't stick for me. It's too much. Then if I get off track with one, I will go off track with everything. It's my pattern. So I do this slowly. So far so good!14 -
I got married. And looking at my wedding photos, I realized I hated everything about them. I was the heaviest I had ever been. While on the cruise for the honeymoon, my husband and I saw everyone happy in their swim trunks and bikinis and there we were all covered up. We decided it was time to get serious. Him and I wanted to start a family and I didn't want to bring a baby into the picture when I was 100lbs overweight and dealing with high blood pressure. We were determined that the next time we went on vacation, that we'd be in better health.8

I was already pretty unhappy with my weight but it was the night before a job interview at my local college and as I was planning my outfit I realized my 'interview' pants were too small. I was in a panic because now it was 11pm and I had no other pants to wear (in addition to the horrible realization I had gotten so frickin big). I had to wear jeans to the interview! (I got the job btw lol)
I decided that this *kitten* was over and I was not going to put myself in a situation like that ever again.6 -
I got upset when I got over 300 pounds on the scale. I dropped back down to "normal" at 275 and said never again would I get that heavy. When I got over 290 again, I was triggered. Those days are gone for good, and I'm fairly happy hovering around 205, although I'd like to lose 10-20 more pounds. Wishing I'd hit that trigger at a younger age...1

Pain is the precursor to change. Pain in the knees, joints, shoulders, wrists. From the top of your head to the soles of your feet, pain will motivate you like nothing else will. Pain is a motivator and change has its enemies. Let them eat your dust, you will not be deterred.5

I looked in a mirror

I moved into a new apartment and the only place to set up my full length mirror is across from my bed. Having the mirror there was the first time I saw what my body looks like seated and hunched over and it wasn't pretty. Also I made a brief trip into class 2 obesity, my clothes weren't fitting, and I was getting really out of breath from small things. Top all that off with elevated blood pressure at a doctor's visit and I was done.
I felt invincible for so long because weight problems run in my family, but nobody has the diseases that are usually comorbid with obesity. The elevated blood pressure turned out to be a random off reading but it scared me enough to change.2 -
I absolutely refused to go up another pant size. All my cute outfits didn't fit anymore and I was buying new ones to accommodate my size. When you are 5'4 and gain 5lbs it might as well be 50.
Myself, husband and son went to AZ last September and I felt disgusting. I couldn't wear any of my old clothes, had to buy new clothes just so I could go. It wasn't until the beginning of this year I made a commitment to lose the weight and be disciplined. After 43 years of NOT being disciplined, it was quite the struggle...lol3 -
I was tired of looking in the mirror and hated what I saw .. also my legs and feet hurt so bad everyday that I said enough was enough and never looked back!1

My wife bought me a new pair of pants (size 42!!) and cut the label out so I didn't know they were a bigger size. For some reason I was devastated by this (almost to tears)--it was the last straw. It gave me an amazing level of determination and I lost 66. The psychology in this is really interesting to me, I'd like to bottle it and get rich.6

It was ok I have had it. Time to turn brain/body this around and go in the correct direction. I am 59, and been a type 2 Diabetic for about 16 years. And sad to say on Insulin and more than one kind. So I go and see the endocrinologist (Diabetes Dr,) in April. And am told, your AC1 is above 8 again, your Triglycerides are going way up. If they do not show progress and start to come down by July you will need to go on medication for it.
So be honest and frank. Because I am a type 2 Diabetic as was my Dad, and a great Uncle. I take one pill, and Lantus, Humulog both are Insulin, and Trulicity which is not true Insulin. But all have to be injected. Oh and take a pill to keep Cholestrol in check. And another one for the neuropathy in my feet, called nerve pain. And a blood pressure pill. Oh and my kidney numbers that are tested in blood are not looking so hot right now either. And the blame some could be passed in family line. But the real issue is I eat the wrong foods, and seem to be missing a stop button often.
So on May 5th, I started on MFP for the 2nd time, and will be here til I cannot type anymore. For now somewhere between Keto and low carb. But shut down Sugar cold turkey, and most processed foods, and the grain family other than the bit in granola have said goodbye to each for some time. So eating veges some fruit, good fat, protein. Doing a cycle of food for three weeks, then switching for another three weeks. Not a diet it is a lifestyle change a long journey.
My goal is to loose weight absolutely. My number 1 goal no more medication, but to come off almost all of the medication I am on. I am already decreasing with Dr's ok amounts of Insulin. I am going to beat my morbid Obesity.6 -
@maureenkhilde you can do it! I believe in you. I don’t know if you’re a religious person or not, but in my experience, prayer really helps.0

How did you push through the pain with workouts? I lost 30 lbs with exercise and calorie tracking, I have 15 more to go, but my back pain has caused me to stop. I have gained a few lbs back but it has maintained there for a while . I enjoyed working out, and my pain is my enemy.0

I used to just focus on being skinnier and looking good but now my priorities have changed. Losing weight for me now is so important. I'll have less back pain and more energy to do things, I'll have greater confidence which will open more doors for me, I'll be able to take my son on children's rides and go on little adventures myself, like zip lining (which I've always loved but I'm now too heavy). I don't want to live each day wishing I was thinner and fitter and wake up with my whole life having past me by and still wishing I'd made a change. I'm only 24 so if I make changes now I'll have plenty more years left to enjoy life without regret.1

Realizing that female Biggest Loser contestants become lighter than me less than halfway through the season, the smallest ladies might even start lighter than me.
That’s not my ”why”, but that pretty much prompted my ”now is the time”. My ”why” includes all kinds of things from wanting to look professional and like I have it together when I graduate and start my career, to fitting into some old clothes, to wanting to be a healthy&fit mom with healthy pregnancies.
(Just to clarify: I’m fully aware of all the issues of the Biggest Loser show and I do not follow any sort of BL-related weight loss plan or expect similar results. The numbers are still numbers, and I couldn’t escape those.)2 -

I’m going to be honest. I don’t work out much. Weight loss, in my experience, is 80% food, 20% fitness.

I get it! No need to clarify. I used to watch the biggest loser back when I worked out everyday, for motivation. It definitely is motivational to see people lose weight so quickly.

CONGRATULATIONS! That’s a huge accomplishment.

Yes. Huge motivator. The worst part of a mirror for me was buying (or almost buying) something and the mirror screams how “horrible” I looked.0
