5/13 - Mothers' Day!
5/14 - Unplanned rest day.
5/15 - 5 miles.
5/16 - 3.17 miles. Shorter than planned due to too many snooze bar hits.
5/17 - 5 treadmill miles / Trek Class, then upper body weights and abs.
5/18 to 5/21 - Family illness + baseball tournament + well-child visits for kids = no exercise and bad diet. Ugh!
5/22 - 4.8 miles. Muggy out, but nice run.
5/23 - 4 mile "hill" run.
5/24 - Unplanned rest day.
5/25 - 4 treadmill miles, then upper body weights and abs.
5/26 - 6.2 mile "long" run. Glad I got it in early.
5/27 - Rest day for family funeral and related travel.
5/28 - 2.25 treadmill miles and quick upper body weights.
5/29 - 5 miles. The humidity is crazy...is it July?
5/30 - 4 miles.
5/31 - One last night of crappy sleep, followed by no morning workout - what a blah month.

@rheddmobile - I found the cascadias to be very stiff and they made my ankles and knees hurt. I got Topo Athletic MT-2 trail shoes as a replacement based on a recommendation from an ultra runner friend. I like them a lot and find them very comfortable. https://www.topoathletic.com/women/womens-shoes/activity/Trail Around me REI carries them so you might be able to find them at a running store or outdoors store.
Went out for a little easy run in my new shoes to wrap up the month. My legs were a bit tired after my leg workout on Tuesday and pace run yesterday. Despite that I had a difficult time trying to keep it slow and easy with the new shoes. They are a brand/model I have had before and I don't know why I didn't get another pair. They are so comfortable for me - 0 drop and just a bit of cushion. I just missed 100 miles but my goal was 75 so I feel really good about the month especially with the graduation and wedding trips.

Earlier in this thread someone (I forgot who) wrote they only have a handful of runs in the rain each year. Hah! Obviously we are not living in the same place. Saturday I had a thunderstorm at the beginning of my run, Sunday a light drizzle during the second half of my long run, Wednesday I ran to work in dry weather and back home in "medium" rain, today I went cycling and got caught in an epic downpour.
And when I wanted to do a "fitnessblender" strength training video after getting home and toweling off, the thunderstorm managed to kill the electricity in the entire neighborhood just after I finished with the warmup part of the video. No more wifi, my cell phone reception at home isn't good enough for streaming videos, so when the power wasn't back after half an hour I went out for pizza with friends instead. Of course that meant that when I got home around midnight I had to start the video from the beginning again... I thought about just going to sleep. But the second half of the month was much better exercise-wise than the start (no visitors, less insanity at work, no evil cold!), so I didn't want to end it with a skipped workout. Now it's finished! Even it it is past midnight and technically not May anymore, I'm counting it for May
Running: I ran 124km this month. Didn't set a goal (because the beginning of the month was crazy), but I'm happy with the result.
(will read the the last couple of pages tomorrow, my alarm rings in less than 6 hours so I'm off to bed now...)6 -

And I made my goal of 100 miles for May. Barely squeaked it out given the last 4 runs were all less than 3 miles. Today was surprisingly much cooler after work, but I was also surprised to find how sore I was from my workout yesterday.

Had a hiking weekend with a friend down in Devon over the Bank Holiday. We were staying along an estuary, so wandered down across some fields to the beach at the mouth of the river to cross a causeway to Burgh Island, made famous by Agatha Christie as ‘Soldier Island’ in her novel ‘And then there were none’.
Unusually for us (we rarely combine walking and pubs on our trips) we decided to turn our walk into n elongated pub crawl. Twelve miles and four pubs. The last bit of the walk was challenging as the tidal road we’d come down was now well and truly flooded, so we waded along back to our final pub (we timed it purely for this bit!!!).
The next day was a ten mile coastal path walk, and a more relaxed wander along the beach on the final day. I don’t think we’ve EVER done so many miles on our walking weekends, shows how much fitter myself and my friend are now!!
A quick run this morning – though at first my left calf was going to give up, but after a while it woke up and was fine. It’s sort of annoying that my body doesn’t like running until I’ve got a couple of miles in. Makes short runs pointless.
Had a delivery of some Tailwind nutrition samples this morning, complete with a little handwritten note. Look forward to testing one out at the weekend – last time I went out I made a home-made rehydration mix, which ended up having too much honey in and me getting pretty fed-up with it.

Got my last run of the month in this morning. I think I’m actually starting to enjoy the treadmill, although I still prefer running outdoors. I did 3.52 miles today in 45:45; I’m beginning to get a little more confident in my ability to push myself to step up the pace. My next 5k is on June 23rd, and I’d really like to show some improvement over my previous 38+ minute races.
I didn’t make my goal again this month, but I would have had I joined a gym earlier and not missed runs due to crappy weather. Next month I WILL make my goal, come hell or (literally, if the weather patterns hold) high water!

Well the klutz that is me, while moving, missed a step and skidded down stairs and landed on the dumb ankle Monday. And I’ve been in the super 8 brace ever since. So my month total is staying short of my goal of 30. Even if I had woken up early enough to test a mile today, I still would have been short. But 23?? Miles is better than I’ve done in months. So, I am calling it a win. And hopefully I wake up better tomorrow. Because summer is dumb, and I don’t like hot, so apparently I need to do the sleep thing better.7

Today's notes – Club practice this evening. Ran the 2-ish mile warmup, and saw exactly the workout I expected on the board: 20 minutes easy, 10 minutes half marathon pace, 10 minutes easy. Because of the geography involved, I ran 17/10/13 instead of 20/10/10; but I got my 40 minutes in. It was a bit warm, but not as bad as yesterday; half marathon pace came in a bit slow at 7:05 average per mile when I wanted to target 7:00. But then, easy was 8:22 average for the first interval and 8:13 for the second, so easy was slower than normal as well. If it's this warm on Sunday, I'm not going to be running a terribly fast half marathon.
Missed my nominal monthly mileage goal, and that's okay. I was iffy with staying healthy, had odd aches in various places up and down my right leg all month long; but I kept them moving around, and the ache today wasn't as bad as the ache Tuesday. I stayed off the couch, and that's good enough for staying healthy. Didn't really build a base, because I was always controlling distance to stay healthy. Ran 4 miles of technical trails in preparation for Ontario Summit, and some bits and pieces of non-technical trails in various weekday runs. And it was a fun month. So let's call my goals partially met, for a C+ grade.

6.34 more miles in tonight, but all trail and deadly humid so they should count double. Without doubling the miles that puts me at about 180 for May. A little shy of my normal 200 miles a month, but 2 tapper weeks will do that to you.

@_nikkiwolf_ I think that was me and @shanaber. I'm in Phoenix and I apparently live in the flatest, dryest part. I'm lucky if we get a handful of rainy days per year, and they usually happen late at night so I don't even get to enjoy them.
I often run in monsoons but in like the wind/dust storm part. The tease of rain that never comes.0 -

Will be retiring the Saucony Peregrine 7 shoes as they just aren't working for me. The P4 was fantastic, P7 not so.

Juliet is a personal homage to my neighbor growing up (B 1934 D 1989 = 55yrs old 3455)
Everyone called her Aunty Juliet even though she wasn't related to most of us. Married but had no children of her own, her door was always open and there was always room at the table for one more. Need an emergency baby/house sitter call her. Your kids didn't make it home from playing all day - they probably had dinner/supper at her place. More than once parents would phone her and she would walk across to the school/community playground and tell us it was time to go home.
