What is your "Petty" Reason to Lose Weight?

My friend mentioned that her BMI was nearly in the “fat kitten” territory, i.e. overweight, the same as me, therefore she must think I am a fat kitten. My BMI is 26, hers is 24.5, but we weigh the same roughly. Funny how some off the cuff comments really stick!!13

I want to feel comfortable in clothes again. I have good style and I want a selection that fits my body and personality. I don't really care about showing people up. I want to have energy to chase my kid around, I just want life to feel like I have more freedom than just the freedom to eat.13

To not be that person anymore that talks about getting in shape/losing weight but never does it....
I know people that talk about losing weight but never seem to do it. I don't want to be that person.28 -
My original reason for losing weight was because my health was going down the drain and I had to do something to reverse it. My petty reason for maintaining the weight loss is bikinis, bikinis, bikinis!16

Pretty clothes. All the pretty clothes.
Also, to be thinner than all the normal weight friends who used to bemoan how 'fat' they were to me when I weighed twice what they did. Not being 'the fat friend' that I have been for the past twenty years is really rather satisfying28 -

I love the pretty clothes! Also someone I know had WLS and I refuse to be the new "official fat girl".13 -
My husband is fit and attractive and while he loves me unconditionally and in no way was pressuring me to lose weight, I was tired of being the fat wife our entire marriage. I worked my butt off and lost 102 lbs. Finally didn't feel like the fat wife and realized I was missing a whole lot of life being so overweight. So while my initial reasons may have been for vanity, my reasons for maintaining have much more to do with health and lifestyle.47

My daughter told me that I look much skinnier and fitter while her dad, my ex-husband, was "really fat and unhealthy now". I think the magnitude of silent joy I got out of that statement demonstrates that I am much more petty than I want to admit. LOL62

I have so many serious reasons, but enough petty reasons too.
1. I want to wear pretty clothing. No more print grandma looking clothes!
2. I want to kayak
3. I want my bust to once again signifantly stand out from the rest of me! Tired of looking like a snowman. Haha
4. I want to stop being confused with other chunky friends because all people see are size and not the color of my eyes or hair, etc.
5. Can’t bring myself to even write #5, but it’s petty and great and my husband will love it.
My health and the example I set for my kids obviously trumps all of the petty reasons. I want to be my best and give my best and represent God and my family well.24 -
Thought of two more petty reasons.
1. I once had a professor who would write a one word description next to each name on the seating chart (she was stupid enough to leave it on the podium ). Some said “glasses” or “blonde”. Mine and a few others said “large”. Ouch.
2. I once sang at a beauty pageant as part of the entertainment. Someone came up to me after the show and said “you sing beautifully! If you’d lose some weight, you could compete in the pageant”. Seriously.
These people will never see me again...but I don’t want to be the person they saw and judged. If that makes sense...34 -

I want someone to think to themselves..
‘There’s a good looking old guy’
I want the "no way a 40 year old woman can have that hot body!" reaction.24 -
tired of the pain of being obese. Ready to feel and look great for once in my life16

Sad to say because it sounds so clichè lol but I want to make my ex jealous. Show him what he could have had.23

I’m short. I want to be little as well as short. I also want to trip people out with how strong I am for my size.17

Sorry!! Two more:
I want to be smaller than my b!tchy sister in law that has picked on me for my weight since grade 9.
Super petty I know but I want my husband’s mates to be jealous the he has the sexy as fluff wife26 -
I thought of another petty reason while reading the updates on this post...
My sister and I are close friends and travel together annually to different states. We started our traveling journey in 2008 - I had just quit smoking and had a very active job so I was petite then.
Fast forward a few years to 2015 - now the habit of smoking was clearly replaced by food AND I had a desk job. Gained 40lbs, but I thought I was carrying the extra weight well. One day, my sister and I were looking at photos from our 2008 trip and she made an off-hand comment to the effect of “back when you were so tiny”. She didn’t mean to be mean, but those words stuck with me...
I wanted her to think of me as tiny again - that was important to me though I don’t know why... and now I am! Pic below from our 2015 annual trip versus our 2016 annual trip!

^^^ Wowee that’s an awesome comparison pic!!!7

I this one!16 -
This one wasn't a reason for me but I got a few people saying to me now that the weigh is coming off, ...
I'm going to be such a MILF ... XD13 -
I want to make sure I'm thinner than my twin sister on my wedding day!17

I want one of those sappy candid family photo shoots, dang it. You see all these families with their fall or beach photos laughing and playing with each other. All I've ever thought was, yeah, how unflattering would those pictures look? Me sitting down in a field and the photographer taking a shot of me from the side with all my chins? No thanks. I want to get to my goal so I can laugh and run through a field hand in hand with my children and not think about how my back fat might be showing in the picture. LOL43

My petty reason is I am a voice over actress and I would like to look better and move to onstage acting as I am in a industry that live and die on looks I need to fit in the mold. However I have a 5year old son so I have non petty reasons. I wanna live to see him grow up.25

I want to be smaller than my husband. I weigh 50 more pounds than him.22

I want to wear shorts again. I haven't worn shorts in years because my legs are so large and flabby and bumpy, and I feel like my bottom half doesn't match my top half.
I also want my face to look better in pictures. I always feel like I look nice, then I catch myself in a picture and think, "Yeesh. Fat face."17 -
My divorce is final tomorrow and I am down ~70 lbs since the process started. The best revenge is quietly looking fine as hell!67

Hmmm...basically because I wanna be the "looks like she could kick your *kitten*" girl in the family instead of the beefy girl(that's just big in a bad way) Never been huge but I'm built differently, broad shoulders, thick thighs kinda deal and I'm 5' 10" so I just look bigger. And NOW my sister in law told my brother in law that she thinks I could kick her *kitten* now because I've got some muscles!! Made my day lol And I wanna look amazing naked.12

I had no petty reasons for starting my lifestyle change. I legit felt sick af, that decision was for me alone. But I developed petty reasons to keep going. Mostly surrounding my MIL and SIL who would make snide comments on my progress.
MIL: "Don't get to happy with yourself, you'll just lose motivation like I did"
SIL: "a few more pounds and you won't be ugly anymore"
Etc, and so on. I take sooo much joy in the fact that SIL (who was really thin at the time) found all the weight I lost and just traded me her smaller clothes for all my plus size ones lol.44 -
Vanity. I don't want to be the "fat middle-aged guy" but rather "distinguished looking." Similarly, I'd like to be arm candy for my wife!28
